Apparently, they wanted a cup race as well to renew the agreement. NASCAR wanted to keep going there, but they couldn't add the cup race. So the organizers dropped out.

@@danielwest9955 Pretty much it. The promoter said the only way he could continue was with a cup race, he bluff and nascar was foolish to call it. A cup race in Montreal would have drawn a MASSIVE crowd possibly even larger than F1

@@simplygregsterev especially given the fact that Indycar basically gave up on Montreal after the 2006 race with Champ Car due to F1 not wanting a rival open wheel series competing there.

Not sure 2006 Champcar rivaled F1 in any aspect but okay.... The race was dropped because the 2nd date was used for the inaugural Nascar Busch Series race at the track. Nascar had a test the following Tuesday / Wed after Champcar. The Nascar date was already in the works around 2004/2005. The 2007 Champcar race was held in Tremblant. We got a paved paddock area from it. Win!
