My son in law has the same mower. Wouldn't start and we found the little hook had somehow fallen off. I re-hooked it (the wrong way like you did) and then it fell off and was lost. I just replaced it with a choke cable. It's 0F here with a feels like -10F!! Enjoy your 60F weather Tommy!!

I got one like that. The choke shaft that holds the wafer is really really stiff. Can I take it out and clean or sand it to move freely?

you can try to put a few drops of oil on it. The wafer is a sealed unit.
