2012 Prius over 200k miles and it has never had any major repairs done just oil changes and new tires my daily commute I'm getting 55miles a gallon. I'm going to drive this car until the wheels fall off!

That's a good question. Also, the car might seem expensive. But you are going to sure notice the car giving you a rebate when you see how much getting 50 mpg saves you each week. I can tell you first hand that when you've had a car that drinks WAY too much, and then you get a car that gives you great fuel economy, THERE IS without doubt an enthusiasm there.

True Nukka 200. I've heard of not wanting a car. But to hate it makes no sense. I can also agree with what he said about the 'exciting aspect.' I had a car that was drinking me out of house and home. Then when I got a car that got GREAT fuel economy, I was excited when I saw how far I was going and how little fuel I was using up. I think the Prius has an interesting space ship look to it.

I just bought a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic turbo. and its EXCITING to watch the Cool Digital futuristic MPG METER CLIMB UP!! I just put some "Top Tier" Gas in it and it climbed up to 35 MPG. that's incredible for an all gasoline car. It's SO efficient. However The seats aren't the best, thats why prius is so great, its got the insane efficiency of a subcompact/ 1.4 L turbo engine but also spacious wide comfortable seats.

nukka200 Well, gas guzzlers don't help anyone. You can have a nice shaped car that gives decent performance and doesn't go through gas like a depressed guy goes through beer. Like most other guys, I like a little engine growl. But you're right. Cops are ready with their tickets. One can enjoy performance WITHOUT getting carried away. I'll check out your 2012 Chev Sonic. Where recent cars are concerned, I find the Hyundai Elantra somewhat impressive. (Affordable, good looks, + great fuel economy.

It beeps in reverse because it is very quiet, thats why electric cars need bleepers so pedestrians can hear them. Its all just being safe for everyone around. As a trucker don't pay to much attention to the bleeper,after a while you will not notice it going sitting in the car.

Its automatic regenerative braking, which mimics the low gear effect of normal cars, but in fact recharges the battery in the process also.

I had an 06 Prius and when I moved, I couldn't take it with me and had to sell it. I thought that 06 was great, the 12 is even better. The only problem I have is the speedometer is in the center and not where it should be. I'm trying to figure out how to update the map on the navigation, but found very little in resources to update the maps in the navigation app.

1 gallon of gas gets you 50 miles? That's a number that would impress even Scrooge McDuck. 3:45 Scrooge McDuck would have A LOT of enthusiasm when he saw how much money he was saving on fuel! I was turned off by the fact that your speed isn't in front of you. But they seem to have compensated for that with the interesting heads up display. And the soft touch seats aren't bad for the people in the back seat. For what this car is, it seems to offer quite a bit of impressive things.

I get 53 MPG city if Im careful. 47 on average. The build quality is good and I like the keyless start. I wish the sound system was better. Since the car is so silent I wanna blast Iron Maiden so people hear me coming. I am not sure I have a headsup MPH display. I dont have a GPS display either. But whatever. The beeping while you back up is so you are noticed while backing up. Personally I think the rear window is terrible for visability while backing up so I am grateful for that safety feature. It makes it less likely that someone would step behind my car while Im backing out of a spot at the grocery store. I can see ok but the car is so silent.

That's exactly what it is. Also, when you gently apply the brakes to control speed going downhill the Prius puts charge into the battery instead of throwing the energy away with friction braking. On a long or steep downhill where this is less effective, the B position turns off the gas supply to the engine and uses its compression to slow the car, exactly like shifting down with a conventional manual transmission.

reverse beeping is a good safety feature. almost everyone forgets to put gear back in drive occasionally, during varied driving situations. id want my children to have a car with that feature. if your such a good driver that you dont need it, disable it. however youd probably regret it.

I should put a "Peace" and "Save the Planet" sticker on my Prius wear John Lennon glasses and bandanna just to piss people off when I'm driving. Maybe roll down my window next to a Mercedes Benz driver and say "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?" lol. Seriously though, it's a good car, I enjoy it so far, and my only complaints are few. 1)Annoying beeping noise feels like I'm driving an 18 wheeler backing up 2)Only 1 USB port , so if you want to control your ipod AND your Entune through your Iphone/Android, it's either or. Bluetooth Audio however allows you to wirelessly stream music through Spotify, or other music services. 3)Navigation is like an ex girlfriend that just doesn't want to jive along with you, tip: have an address? Start with State, then City, then Street, and Number, works very well if you are doing verbal commands. 4)No Change drawer-you can use the handle in the front driver side to temporarily put coins, but no long term solution.

people,try understand this.hybrids are massively great if you live and drive in the city alot.example new york,london.its the start stop traffic that gives benefits such as having to use more of the electric motor rather than the combustion engine.AS FOR those who drives on highways and long distances ALOT,a diesel is WAY WAY FAR AHEAD of its game.just cruising or low traffic situations can easily give 1000km++ of mileage.THIS IS BASED ON FUEL ECONOMY.NOTHING TO DO ON HOW CLEAN IT IS.

I Have a 2012 chevy sonic turbo that gets 35 mpg overall. excellent. BUT the seats are uncomfortable, and its disappointing. The problem with subcompacts is that theyre not all that comfortable it seems. EXCELLENT MPG from gas only engine but lacking comfort. prius has comfort and mpg. but fucking expensive -_-

One answer to your question here is that the Toyota Prius is not only a new guy on the block, it's different. And new + different cars can be subject to hatred. I always thought it looked futuristic. One possibility is that 'environmentally friendly' to some may equal 'not manly.' Though I never thought Mr. Spock was unmanly. And even he would say the Toyota Prius is logical. (Less waste around since it's made of recycled materials, and great fuel economy.)
