subahnnallah. But why was the whole tribe taken captive in the first place if they didnt really put up a fight. Werent there innocent people there?

The whole point of attacking Banu Al-Mustalliq was because they conspired against the muslims and were planning to attack Madina. It's not that they didnt put up a fight, but they were unable to as prophet Mohammed saws, surprised them with an early and unexpected attack. Those from among Banu al-Mustaliq tried to fight back were killed as Sheikh Yasir Qadhi quoted.
