Helpful. For those who come after me- be sure to watch carefully where he places the screwdriver to pry open. I put it in the hole and broke the mechanism that holds valet key in place.

Same thing happened to me. 3 tiny pieces of the mechanism broke/fell out when I took a small screwdriver to open up thebatteryfob 2 sides. WHY?? I've changed out my Toyota key fob battery several times and nothing like this happened when I pried the 2 halves apart.

Would it not be just as easy to use the tip of the metal key to pry the fob body apart? Seems like the simplest option and, based on how well worked for me, I'd have to conclude the key designer intended that no tools are necessary to replace the battery.

Mine showed low battery on the dash. I replaced it and the dash warning went away. I checked the old battery on a battery tester and it tested good, so dont trust either your dash or a battery tester. I changed mine with the first warning, perhaps is would have lasted another year, but I dont like seeing the warning pop up. Just an FYI! When you really know that they are low is when it won't start up unless you hold the fob next to the START button.

The fob was designed so you use the emergency metal key to split the fog in half without needing a screw driver

You must have a lower trim like the LX. This applies to the EX/EXL and Touring models. Not sure about the Sport.

Ed Umin - the answer is, that you have to put them back together carefully in alignment with the outer key housing. The same thing happened to me.

Yeah but you don't show what happens when the whole kefob comes apart while replacing the battery! All the chrome buttons fall out and the little plastic ladder falls out becuase the Keyfob is a piece of shit designed by assholes.
