2013 Dutch Star 3735: A Ten Year Review and Inspection

I was asked by Doug Sewell with Sewell Motorcoach, if I could possibly travel to Napa, California for a quick inspection of this 2013 Dutchstar, and to bring it back to the shop if it looks good. Obviously I said yes, and made a quick trip to meet the owner. This was a private party seller and could not have been a nicer person to meet, or talk to. Unsurprisingly, he was not completely ready to let go of his sweet home, and took me on a tour of the whole RV and even offer to direct me to a fueling truck stop that he likes to use on the other side of town. While this fabric on the furniture was obviously bad, he was up front with Doug and about the entry door awning too. Once the transaction was completed, we parted ways and I drove through some of the nicest December weather I've experienced in awhile.
So join me back at the shop as we inspect this 2013 Dutchstar and see if these are built to last.

Just not a fan of a fridge being on a slide out. I would have to check all the plumbing, and electrical. Check under cabinets for any leaks and standing mold.

batteries should be checked at least every 6 months

We had a Cat Napper living room suite made of that crappy fake leather material that 4.5 years into owning it, the outer layer starts to peel off. By 5 years, major places of the material had shed it's fake material. Too bad some slimy attorney didn't do a class action lawsuit against the material manufacturers. Ours shed even on a loveseat that didn't get used very much. We purchased the extended "everything" warranty when we bought it and when it started to peel, found out the warranty was almost everything except the material...

James, Have you ever heard of low mileage F53 Chassis 30’ range RV having steering wobble problems? Like from 4500 to 11000 miles. I was thinking unbalanceable tires, but got a comment about Ford wobble. I know Ford had issues with pickups.

There does seem to be some discussion, but I would think California would not be able to limit licensing of RVs from other states or preventing them from entering the state and the market is too important for the RV and travel world for something not to be figured out.

James. I have a 2015 London Aire and is replacing the slide toppers a DIY job? Mine like that DS are black and I’m thinking about changing them to a light grey (heat absorption with the black). What do you think? Thx.

Black plastic is the best for UV resistance because it does not require UV inhibiters. Any other plastic colors require inhibiters which are not as good as black's natural UV resistance.

James, are you familiar with PPL motorcoaches in Houston Tx ? If so, would you consider them to be a reliable, trustworthy vendor ? Also, do you do inspections for individual, private, buyers ? I've been considering purchasing a diesel pusher from PPL is why I'm asking. Thanks. 👍🙏.

I bought a motor home from them abought 4 years ago. I paid for an inspection by them. They did not do a very through job. I was not impressed at all with the tech. James would never have sent me off on a 600 mile trip home with a leaking front tire. Ended up costing me a new tire because I had to drive on it flat for 5 miles because there was no safe place to pull off the interstate to change the tire. I would hire James to inspect the unit. The extra cost would be worth it.
