Love the sound of these proper diesel V8s, most of the trucks here in the UK are Euro-spec with 2.2 diesels, but the 3.2D is pretty common in the new Ford Ranger

Just a side note... the AERO Turbine muffler ONLY works at full RPM on this large of an exhaust with a 6.7 Diesel! The DRONE sound is STILL there at low RPM's (1300 to 1700 rpm) and the exhaust is NOTICEABLY LOUDER and throatier! The backlash "howl" sound is still there too, just not as pronounced as with the former 4 inch exhaust. The muffler is only quieting the upper RPM range above 2000 which helps keep it from being obnoxiously loud during rural driving. All tuner deletes are still in effect.

I have a custom delete tune by Ryan Milliken who owns Hardway Performance. He wrote it back when he was working with H&S. He no longer does Powerstroke tunes... just Cummins now. I have the last of a dead breed but you can find other companies out there that will do a custom tune for you. Just make sure they do it on a dyno and it's NOT a "smoke" or "lope" tune!

Thanks! I am planning to go with PPEI tunes and EZ LYNK with SOTF. I will probably run a tow tune most of the time. Also planning on the Sinister EGR delete with Flo Pro 4" exhaust and 5" No limit stage 2 intake. I think that's all my wife will let me buy, since my 38's aren't cheap! Lol

RHCP9181: Yes, you DO have to run a tuner with a special tune that overrides the OEM programming which turns off all the malfunction indicators and allows the truck to run with the emissions system deleted. The other obstacle is getting a custom tune that is CLEAN! Most custom tunes just turn up fuel levels and cause you to "ROLL COAL" which will get you a very serious fine now, thanks to all the A$$Holes that think it's "cool" to roll coal. I have a "CLEAN TUNE" that barely puffs any black smoke when accelerating... that is what you want! A clean tune! I haven't had a single problem with raising awareness to my deleted truck. I will say however, that I don't think you'll be able to get away with a delete on your truck in California... I think the laws are too stringent and may prevent you from getting inspected. I do not have to have my truck inspected in my state because of my weight class and I'm non-commercial so I'm exempt.
@RHCP9181

subman719 Sorry for late response, just saw the reply. So would the mini maxx be considered a clean tune and will it delete the cat and dpf filter? The plan is to probably either find a "smog guy" or just put the filter and cat back on and run it stock for when I have to smog it. Also, what delete kit do you recommend?
@subman719
@subman719 9 жыл бұрын
RHCP9181 ... Your best bet is to find a "smog guy" because swapping everything in and out every year is a brutal way to go! You not only have the time of swapping out the exhaust system but you also have to re-flash the PCM back to stock then re-flash back to the custom tune once you put the aftermarket stuff back on! You'll easily kill an entire day swapping stuff back and forth. The Mini Maxx itself from H&S is a clean tune because it has to be compatible with the DPF system to not clog it up. In order to do the "deletes" you must have the MCC unlock code and custom tune to unlock and override the Mini Maxx's emissions compliant tune... that's where you need to be selective as to "who" writes the custom tune! Most shops/guys just go in and turn up fuel values which creates a "dirty tune"... you need to find a shop that turns up the values proportional to rpm and load which is usually done on a dyno. Due to the OEM turbo and fuel limitations, you can only get an honest 25hp gain with the deletes versus just using the Mini Maxx out of box with DPF and EGR intact. The main advantage to doing the deletes is if you want to go beyond the factory turbo and fuel limits by installing upgraded turbo and fuel system as I plan on doing. My advice is to ask yourself what is most important to you... power increase or cool sound. If it's mainly power then just go with the out of box Mini Maxx and save yourself all the headaches. If you really want the cool sound then be prepared for the added (doubled) expense of doing the deletes and possibility of getting busted by California's stringent laws. Yes, lot's of people out there are running deleted and rolling coal but their fun will probably get cut short and be expensive. NJ has imposed a $5000 "rolling coal" fine recently so I'm EXTREMELY careful as to how, when and where I hit the throttle! I put links in the description above to all the parts I used for both the 4" and 5" exhausts and other parts like tuner, intake and EGR delete. Hope this helps and let me know what you decide to do. I'll help any way I can.

subman719 I really appreciate all the info, its definitely helpful. I'd like to leave California as soon as I can, except I have to finish school. Smog is every 2 years I think in California, but non the less, it definitely would be a pain in the ass to put the filter back on and off and put pcm to stock. My neighbor does that on his '08 450. His only smokes if he has a decent load, which most of the time is his 18K trailer. I know a few buddies that would sign off smog for me so. Thanks again for the info. I'll look for those links and check out the kits.

In this video, at the 6:35 mark, right after you start it up, the hiss sounds abruptly comes and then immediately goes away. My question with this setup is this, did that hissing sound basically disappear with this muffler? I have a 5" DP back exhaust on my '16 SD and the hissing sound is EXTREMELY loud, particularly at low throttle, such as when driving in a parking lot.

@subman719
@subman719 10 жыл бұрын
Depends on the RPM range... at idle and above 1900 rpm you barely notice the exhaust... between 1300 and 1700 rpm, the drone is so deep that you can't hear yourself think in the cab! The Aero muffler really works well above 1900 rpm up to full throttle keeping the loudness in check. Below 1900, there isn't enough flow out of the 6.7 liters for a 5 inch exhaust to create enough back pressure for the muffler to work. The 4 inch exhaust was a bit quieter at the lower rpm range but still had a drone in the 1300 to 1700 rpm range and louder at full throttle due to not having a muffler at all. Overall, the 5 inch is not "loud" per-se', it just has a much "deeper drone" and tone. I will be posting a new comparison video of me at the track after this weekend with me doing old runs with the 4 inch exhaust and new runs with the 5 inch. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delayed response... you can email me at subman719@gmail.com and I'll be glad to help you any way I can! If you haven't had your factory turbo replaced you will most likely need to since the 11's and 12's had ceramic bearings that come apart. I've also recently heard the torque converters are coming apart and need to be replaced as well, especially if adding more power! Check your vehicle history with a Ford Dealer to see what has been done and what can be done before modifications.

Nice . I do enjoy the sound more with the 5" exhaust w/ turbine muffler.. My opinion it has more of a lower growl to it (which I prefer)..This was the whole reasoning I went with 5" exhaust myself .. Thanks for sharing..
@subman719
@subman719 8 жыл бұрын
I agree that the turbine muffler gave it a lower growl but that was because of it having a smaller baffle area. While it did sound nice, it wasn't getting rid of the annoying drone in the cab while cruising and it was a little louder and more annoying to my neighbors when I come home late at night. I found that the MBRP Quiet Tone muffler was a good balance between a nice growl yet comfortable for everyone in or out of it. I use my truck for work and family travel so my needs are a little different than some other people who are looking for mainly performance sound.

+ononewheel7 ... I have the cleanable gauze style filter because I like the fact that you buy it once and clean and recharge as needed versus having to spend more money over time with the paper type filters. I purchased a gallon of K&N oil on Amazon.com and it is lasting me forever! I also feel that the oil helps trap more particles while still allowing decent flow versus paper which will become more restrictive, sooner as it clogs up. That's just my opinion though. As for the Miles to Empty programming... I did take it in to my dealer with the instructions I found online to allow the technician to change the size of the fuel tank in the PCM. I now have proper readings. They only charged me a half hour to do the update.

Did the muffler help the drone at highway speeds?
@subman719
@subman719 3 жыл бұрын
The muffler helped a little bit but not much because it was a straight through muffler. Towing on the highway was even worse. Based on my experience with both the 4” and 5” exhausts, 4” will yield better performance and less drone due to slight increase in back pressure. The 5” sounds meaner but you sacrifice your in-cab comfort and sanity on long highway trips. Hope this helps.

@@subman719 what about a 5” straight pipe and the mbrp muffler? Drone gone?
@subman719
@subman719 3 жыл бұрын
@@rbell944 ... That exact combination was my final experiment and the drone was still there. I used a 5” flo-pro exhaust with a 5” MBRP Quiet Tone muffler (straight through) and there still was drone until I hit 80 MPH on highway to build enough exhaust pressure to cancel out the drone. 65-75 mph was horrendous drone. I did purchase a 5” resonator to put in the exhaust system just after the axle but never got around to installing it. The factory exhaust has a resonator in that position so I was going to experiment with similar philosophy.

DanielPats1228.... yes... I HIGHLY recommend using the MBRP Quiet-Tone muffler to reduce the nasty in-cab drone! It has made a world of difference on my truck! Have you had any problems after doing a full delete? I have a 2014 f250 interested in do a full delete but concerned about having problems I only have 57,000 miles on my truck should I wait till I reach 100,000?
@subman719
@subman719 7 жыл бұрын
Devin Porter ... Problems are all relative with these trucks! If you DON'T do the delete you will most likely see a $7000 repair bill to replace the DPF system because they are now classified as "wearable items" and NOT covered under the full powertrain warranty or emissions warranty! Max lifespan on DPF systems are about 120k miles given highway driving and proper regeneration cycles. If you do a lot of local driving then it's considerably less. I did my delete and tuner at 1200 miles and now have 36,000 miles on it after 4 years of mostly local driving. That includes Plowing and running it hard like a sports car! I keep my H&S Mini Maxx tuner cranked all the way up except for heavy towing which was producing exhaust gas temps over 1400 degrees and caused two EGT sensors to fail in 34,000 miles at the cost of $25 each from www.tascaparts.com The tuner kit requires that one EGT sensor from the DPF be moved up into the exhaust manifold where it's MUCH hotter, causing it to fail sooner if you don't lower the H&S factory set EGT limit. I've since then turned my limiter down to 1200 degrees to make everything last longer. So, to answer your question... keeping a small stock of user replaceable $25 sensors on hand is WAY CHEAPER than losing $7000 every time the DPF fails! Not to mention the extra power is VERY addicting should you choose to use it! Hope this helps.

The 6.7 Powerstroke is actually a quiet motor. I have a 250 with a 4" AFE with muffler and a 350 cab chassis with a 4" delete pipe/stock tail pipe and no muffler. Not loud and zero drone in either truck.
@subman719
@subman719 8 жыл бұрын
I believe that's because the factory tailpipe is more restrictive with tighter bends and a resonator can so that will keep it quieter. If you use a full aftermarket system, including tail section, the reduced flow and lack of resonators will cause it to be more loud and have a drone in cab. That's just my personal experience with trying different pipes and scenarios.

SOXCAL_IxE ... I don’t think the tip will change the way it sounds... probably just perception of the sound because it’s redirected and reflecting differently. If it’s a resonator tip like people put on rice burners then it may change the sound.

I'm thinking if deleting my 2016 6.7 Would you recommend a 4" or 5" exhaust? I want a good sound but not a drone in my cab. Thanks!
@subman719
@subman719 4 жыл бұрын
Carson Unruh ... 4” will have less drone than the 5” but you will still need an MBRP Quiet Tone muffler to further reduce drone. That muffler is straight through so it produces excellent sound and free flow. I do want to mention however that the EPA has now put massive restrictions on deleting emissions components so you might run into a problem finding a delete capable tuner. My H&S Mini MAXX is for sale if you’re interested. It has delete capable tunes plus emissions compliant tunes in it.

Thinking about adding an H&S Tuner, should I go with the Mini Maxx or the XRT Pro? Not sure of the difference really? Looking to do the EGR/DPF Delete as well. Anyone's thoughts?Thank you.
@subman719
@subman719 10 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response... I personally recommend the Mini Maxx since it has the MCC capability which is required to do the deletes. The XRT Pro and Mini Maxx RACE tuners are only for 2012 and below trucks I believe with delete capabilities built in. If you have a 2013 or newer truck, you will need a Mini Maxx STREET tuner with the MCC custom delete programming. You can get that from NHRDA Race Champion, Ryan Miliken from his website, www.hardwayperformance.com That's who I used. There are MANY other people out there writing programs for the MCC but there's a RIGHT way and a WRONG way of getting power! Ryan Miliken is a top notch programmer and gives you the most power in a SAFE and CLEAN manner!

Great video. I recently installed a diamond eye 5in. The section right after the down pipe connection, does your exhaust touch the frame? I'm getting a occasional vibration underneath when turning right/reverse and am having a hard time diagnosing the noise.

Thanks! Mine does not touch anything because Flo-Pro made the front section of pipe a 4 inch after the down pipe and then opens up to 5 inch once it clears. Is your Diamond Eye like that or is it just a full 5 inch starting from the down pipe?

subman719 Thanks for the quick reply. Diamond is 5inch starting at the down pipe. There is a little bend which I am assuming is to clear the frame. I'll email you a couple pictures of where it's touching. What a difference these trucks are with the mods!

It's the 5050 XL with resonator but if you're looking to reduce drone then you will need to go with the Flo-Pro 4" exhaust, NOT 5" like mine and use the 4040 XL muffler! The 5 inch exhaust I did flows TOO MUCH and doesn't reduce shit for sound! Long highway trips are ANNOYING!!! No problems with the tuner or deletes however at some point I must have gotten a batch of bad fuel and the moisture caused rust and corrosion to form on some on the high pressure injection system parts. Truck is currently at dealer being diagnosed and hoping that it repairs can be covered under warranty but if Ford denies the claim due to outside contamination causes, I'm looking at an $8500 repair bill for a complete replacement of the High Pressure Fuel Injection System! I've done my maintenance and filters way above factory recommendations yet it still isn't enough sometimes! Ford recommends to drain your water separator cup once a month at least! I'm currently at 33k miles on the truck and have changed the fuel filters 3 times. Also ford recommends changing oil every 5k miles to prevent turbo failures which are becoming more common! I should've bought a Cummins! LOL

What year of the 6.7 powerstroke rolls the most coal
@subman719
@subman719 8 жыл бұрын
Any year 6.7 can roll coal if you don't have a proper tune. Rolling coal is the byproduct of wasted, un-burnt fuel when too much fuel is delivered for the amount of air flowing through the engine. That's why most "rolling coal" happens on acceleration because there is a burst of fuel at low RPM's to get power without the engine knocking from running lean. "Dirty tunes" will roll coal, waste fuel, attract cops and get you fined. I don't recommend "rolling coal" on the street... There's nothing good that can come of it! Save it for the track!

As for "More than enough power from the factory to tow"... yes, factory power is plenty for towing light loads but having the extra power just makes it that much better! +rumerboyz .... So far, at 25,000 miles, the ONLY failure was one of the EGT sensors that I transferred from the DPF to the exhaust manifold for the H&S Mini MAXX to monitor exhaust temps. It failed at 24k miles and was giving erratic readings from 32 degrees to 2600 degrees, which caused the Mini Maxx to de-fuel to protect the engine. I turned the Mini Maxx back to STOCK level to bypass the readings until I replaced the sensor. I took another one from the DPF, installed and it runs like a champ again! I ordered a couple replacement EGT sensors from www.tascaparts.com for about $30 each with shipping. ***Based on some research, the factory VGT turbos are failing between 100k to 150k miles on STOCK motors and if not caught quickly, are blowing chunks down the intake and taking out the entire motor! Due to the added stress on everything from the increased performance levels, I estimate a failure at half that mileage, therefore I plan on upgrading the turbo to a Borg Werner NON-VGT kit in the near future. After MUCH investigation, I've decided to go with the H&S turbo kit with the Borg Werner SX-E turbo due to its reliability, performance and cost. Also, H&S has a tune available to match that configuration which simplifies things and keeps cost down. ***I will be posting another video of the install process once I get the kit.

I can personally tell you that this WILL be my LAST Ford product and my next truck will be a RAM! The F150 with the ECO-Boost motors are another animal... those are INCREDIBLE!!! Like I said, I can put you in touch with my friend just to get some further info and experiences with the RAM to help you make a decision one way or the other. Which ever you choose, do your homework EXTENSIVELY BEFORE locking in! These things cost a LOT of money and not being properly informed can cost you even MORE as it has in my case! Don't get me wrong, the Super Duty is a BEAUTIFUL looking truck and I like it's exterior better than RAM, however, now that I've been thoroughly informed about the differences between RAM and Ford, I know where my money will be with my next truck!

hey bud did that muffler work out ok so far?
@bobk6277
@bobk6277 8 жыл бұрын
Yes. The new MBRP Quiet Tone muffler still allows a nice tone without the excessive in cab drone in the mid rpm range. Much more effective than the Aero Turbine muffler.

i believe that you are not able to get rid of that howling noise. As far as i know (correct me if i am wrong), it is because of the reverse-impellor design of these 6.7L power stroke turbos.

I kinda like the howling noise sets the truck apart from all the other diesel V8s

Griffin Jackson You could get aftermarket turbos...if you got an extra 7-10k laying around to change the sound of your truck.

Mark Anderson ... unfortunately I haven't noticed because I did the delete so early on. I'm currently averaging about 14 mpg with my lead food around town.

Gorgeous noise. I think you just converted me to a fan of diseasel engines! What kind of mileage are you getting, or is it really low because you're having so much fun blowing off sports cars? Can't wait to see the onboard vid. Thanks for posting.

I'm averaging 19mpg highway at around 75mph and getting like 13mpg local driving.

Did this fix the drone on the highway at cruising speeds? I'm worried about the drone If I delete because I drive on the highway a lot. Do you like this set up now?
@subman719
@subman719 9 жыл бұрын
The use of the 5 inch exhaust made the drone at highway speeds MUCH worse until I hit about 1900 RPM or 80 MPH where there is enough flow through the large muffler to cancel out the drone! I would've been better sticking with the 4 inch exhaust and addind the 4 inch Aero Turbine muffler to that because it would build back pressure sooner to cancel the drone at lower RPM's and speed. This 5 inch exhaust does make the truck sound mean and throaty but at the tradeoff of uncomfortable noise in cab.

How do u pass emissions?
@subman719
@subman719 6 жыл бұрын
88MS88 ... I don’t and can’t. Because I’m over 10,000 lbs registered weight and registered as a passenger vehicle, I’m “self-inspect” which exempts me from motor vehicle inspections. If I register commercial it’s a whole other game and I’d be screwed and have to keep everything stock. It’s a loophole in my state and I’m sitting in the middle of it.

subman719 does this go for every diesel pickup or just yours?
@subman719
@subman719 6 жыл бұрын
88MS88 ... Every diesel pickup in NJ following same guidelines. If the truck is being used commercially for interstate transport then it must pass D.O.T. Inspection. For private use and non-commercial registration it’s exempt. The fine line is if you use it to haul your commercial/work trailer within the state but don’t have it registered commercially... then it can get tricky if stopped.
