Just purchased our 2014 Sport yesterday... We looked at both the Sport and GMC Acadia Denali. It was a very tuff choice to make because both vehicles offer similar creature comforts. We have always owned Fords and never had any issues... My wife loves her new vehicle! #HappyWifeHappyLife!

The 3.6-liter engine in the GMC seems so much more refined, both in sound and power delivery and honestly the Ford didn't feel quicker in highway passing maneuvers. The Acadia Denali's chassis is more pleasing, too. From a standstill the Sport is an eager machine.

@@Mr.77776 I love it so far. Pretty sure I will get a newer one at some point (as you did). The only thing I don't like right now is the Gas mileage. I'm averaging around 15 MPG. Which is bad considering my old vehicle got around 28Mpg

Steve -- I think Ford should have that 3.5L Ecoboost V-6 engine in the uplevel Limited as an extra-cost option.
@bmwmsport1111 жыл бұрын
The Toyota highlander hybrid Limited cost just about the same, and you get much more MPGs. Great video Steve!

you actually compared the performance of an Acadia Denali with that of the Explorer Sport??? Did you have a straight face while uttering those words?
@MandusahRamirez4 жыл бұрын
You should’ve put it in Sand Mode. That locks the 4x4 50/50 an you get more torque from a pull with 0 turbo lag. I love my 16 Sport. Just wish I would’ve got the 17 with Sync 3

Congrats, John. How has the Explorer Sport been for you?
@stevehammes11 жыл бұрын
If only the Ford's EcoBoost engine felt as strong as the Explorer Sport's looks they'd have something. Looks better on paper than it plays in real life. Lots of weight to carry here...even more than the Acadia Denali.
@HooperSaint11 жыл бұрын
It's a beautiful cross over. The best looking one out there.
@Aligums11 жыл бұрын
Well, to really let the beast out and push its true power, it needs a proper higher octane tune, CAI mod, bigger exhausts, and cooler temp plugs. It's got the nice suspension already and it's AWD plus the stability with the brace bar in the engine compartment.
@RodHykes8 жыл бұрын
But the Acadia Denali has 280 horses? So you're saying although weaker the GMC is better appointed?

You're right, the crossovers are tuned differently. And Ford has geared the F-150 with more torque to improve towing capacity.

Drove the Explorer Limited for about a couple months and since then have fell in love with the car and what Ford have done with their new vehicles and packed on the High End Tech Stuff. Microsoft Sync is amazing and very user friendly. No doubt the Explorer Limited engine is a bit weak since I'm coming from an 09 Range Rover Sport, so cant wait to check out the Explorer Sport and consider that for my new car. The downside is I don't know how I feel going from a Range Rover to a Ford? lol

I liked the Explorer when it came out in 2011...but it just doesn't have that "I gotta have one" feeling...how does it compare to the Durango R/T? The Durango is a little more masculine in it's styling and should be getting the 8spd auto with the Hemi soon...

That's what I was thinking! They might do that within a few years. And since the XLT trim sounds truck-like and dated, they should replace it with SEL. And the Sport should become Titanium. The Explorer still has some way to go!
@Aligums11 жыл бұрын
They have a company in Detroit called Livernois. They do business with major companies including Ford. Anyways, they patented a device that tunes it up to 70 hp and increased (not sure the number) significant torque. That is very noticeable. It beat a mustang in a drag.

I like our 2013 explorer XLT, I just don't love it. It's way under powered but overall it's just boring to drive. I feel like I'm sitting in a tub. It has plenty of room for the family plus dog and the my Touch is easy to use....it really is! I had 2 "Sports" back in the day. A 1999 and a 2001. Both 2 door models. Loved those especially with the SOHC 4.0 I had in my 2001. It had so much useful space! I'd like to see a sport trac version of this model!!

This is a performance vehicle. It has a firmer ride on purpose. I have a sport and a limited. The limited has a lot more body roll and the sport is planted firmly to the ground like a corvette. It is amazing the corners this vehicle can take at high speeds. For the price plus 1,500 dollar LMS chip you will be spanking srt's, Audi, and BMW M's up and down the highway with a top speed over 140mph. She just keeps going and going and going. I do miss the sound of a v8 under the hood. Ford did finally come out with a platinum version that has performance features under the hood with Lincoln like luxury that would make an MKS blush. Ford is doing good with explorer but would love to see a high output v8 performance option soon.

I think Ford's EcoBoost V-6 found in the F-150 (which has more torque) should be in this Explorer Sport (which is the same engine as the Taurus SHO and Flex).

A little bit of understeer at the end there. And when will ford start producing diesel-powered cars for the everyday communters? Vw does it with almost all of their cars, Mazda and Subaru are almost introducing them into the U.S. market and now Jeep has the Grand Cherokee as a diesel option.....I'm waiting for options here......
@DRII-yv1yt11 жыл бұрын
the Explorer is doing very well! Looks like Ford needs no advice from you.
@knack012511 жыл бұрын
I will agree but disagree, yes the Sport version (which there is no such animal for Acadia) there is more power. But in their normal versions, Explorer has 2 more hp and -15 lb ft of torque then Acadia. So they aren't to far off one another in that realm but its all in taste and what you prefer. For that kind of money though, I don't want to feel a rough ride on a vehicle with a car chassis....but as I said, all in your preference.

Is it just me, Steve, or do I feel like I'm being surrounded by Ford Explorers? From where I live (which is in Pennsylvania), they're EVERYWHERE! There so popular (too popular). And the fact that auto critics, like yourself, hate it means that people are not even thinking before they buy. It's just stupid! (P.S. The Explorers that I'm seeing, in case you want to know, are XLT's and Limited's.)
@DRII-yv1yt11 жыл бұрын
obviously this is your youtube video and your allowed to state your opinion, but its clear you're no Ford fan. the Eco Boost 3.5 is a great engine and GM has no 6 cylinder as of right now that compares. the only thing I remotely agree with you regarding the 3.5 EB is the exhaust sound. Ford greatly restricts the exhaust to limit its power...
