@iPad4me Glad to hear it. Looking at the output numbers of the 4-cylinder turbo I figured it would feel much like the V6 in most driving situations. The only bummer is that it's only available on front-drive Explorers. I do wish that the V6 was flex-fuel capable like Chrysler's Pentastar. I know the mileage is significantly reduced when using E85 but it's a nice option.

Hi Steve! Have you tried he 2.0 Eco yet? Our 2009 murano is due to be replaced this fall and I'm curious about the mileage?

Test drove one last night. Beautiful vehicle with plush interior. Great electronics...however, it drove like a pontoon boat. Very cumbersome with absolutely zero punch. I would really like to try the Sport model, but they're rare.

any idea when Ford will let you get behind the wheel of the Sport? I know sometimes they get those pre-prod testers out to reviewers...here's hoping it's soon

@jmatero I do prefer Chrysler's new UConnect but I really don't mind MyFord Touch...maybe my brain is strangely wired but I can move through its functions with relative ease. I do wish OEMs would put faster processors into these units. It's tough going from your iPhone 4s to the slowness of one of these systems.

I agree with you that the 3.5 L Twin Turbo V-6 found in the Taurus SHO and F-150 should be in this vehicle.

0:56 - other way around. Land rover uses the system from Ford, as Ford have had a partnership with Land Rover. They developed it for the Explorer, and sold the technology usage rgts to Land Rover. But, seeing as they didn't have a new Explorer design readily available until 2011, Land Rover used it before Ford, meaning that everyone thinks it is a Land Rover product.

You're right, the Explorer could use the EcoBoost V-6. There is the EcoBoost Turbo-4, but that EcoBoost Turbo-4 with 237 hp to a 4700 lb vehicle doesn't work as strongly, and doesn't offer 4wd. Same engine as F-150, Taurus SHO, Edge Sport would wonders here especially the EcoBoost V-6's torque.

While I do like the ford explorer, I still feel that the cheaper Dodge Durango is the way to go. It also has more discounts, it can tow more, looks more like an SUV, and has the option of a V8. Also, it is a lot less complicated too. The Ford is based on a Volvo platform, the Dodge is based on a Mercedes platform. I think that says enough right?

Wow! I like the explorer in every way EXCEPT the engine/drivetrain layout. A big SUV should have "RWD-style" AWD [for a lack of a term I could think of] like the Dodge Durango! Front wheel-bias drivetrain style is more of a car-like manner... But I dunno, maybe a test drive might change my mind.

Steve, have you realized how vastly different reviews are on this car? They go to polar extremes--it drives poorly, it drives well. The packaging is poor, it makes the best of its space. Haven't gotten in one, so I don't know what to believe!

great review, but 47 thousand for a non luxury SUV???? I think the car prices are going up way faster than wages are and eventually there will be an extreme auto industry crash if they can't get the prices to a more realistic level...

Cars equipped like this confuse me sometimes, if a family purchases a vehicle, they're likely concerned with passenger room, cargo room, room for carseats, fuel economy, the list goes on. But why would anyone truly concerned with the functionality of the car drop $47K on an Explorer?!!? I suppose it is but a matter of opinion, but having driven both, I much prefer the Dodge Durango.
@newera3443
@newera3443 12 жыл бұрын
@stoopidvideo yea I agree with you. For 47k there is 3 other vehicles in my mind that would be better than the Explorer. The car is nice, but not luxurious enough for me to spend that much.

@bg1379 You know, I rarely read or watch other reviews. I never want to be influenced by what others have to say. But I can't imagine anyone could drive a V6 Explorer and conclude that it drives poorly. Not to go on a rant here, but there are a growing number of car reviewers who think everything is supposed to drive like a Porsche 911; if it's not a hard core sports car they're too cool to admit liking it. Pathetic, really.
