I fought a 2014 F150 bank 2 stuck rich. Can’t remember the code. You get stuck in your head that the O2 sensor is telling you the truth. Come to find out it’s just a bad sensor. I’ve learned over the years to start swapping sensors on V engines when I can. Feels good to figure it out. Great job!!

Nice work! Just because the part is new, it doesn't always mean it's good. This is the kind of stuff that makes you second guess yourself. Bet you've earned a happy customer for life, though! [Warning: story time] I had an F-350 that was running rough a couple of weeks ago. The spark plugs and three coils were already replaced. I could clearly hear a massive intake leak, sprayed some carb cleaner around one side of the intake and the engine rpm went up immediately. History showed it has been in the shop four times for running rough over eight months. The spark plugs on the first visit and one of the coils at each subsequent visit. After the spark plugs replacement, the coil replacements fixed the misfire issue every time (according to history). Figured the coils were going out one by one, and since the truck is going to be in the fleet for (at least) another three years, it would be best to be proactive. Replaced the intake gaskets and the rest of the coils later (among many other repairs and maintenance items), and it was running just as bad as when it came in. What the heck?! Did I diagnose this wrong?! Or did I forget to plug something back in? Poor install perhaps? Rechecked my work and I didn't find anything obvious with what I had just done. Even performed an injector leak-down test, no fault was found there. Came back in the next day and decided to pull all eight of the new, two-piece spark plugs (eight months old, remember?). Found one had a damaged lower shell electrode (like it was dropped and someone tried to bend it back into shape) and another was missing the lower shell's electrode altogether! Clean breaks at both of the outer electrode welds! I replaced all eight spark plugs, cleared codes, reset KAM, etc. Two OBD II drive cycles later, the P1000 code cleared and she's a runner now!
@johnphillips2222 жыл бұрын
I am the backup guy for P2196 and P2198. For OBDII testing and validation we use an oxygen sensor simulator box that interferes with the HO2S voltages, so we can test every possible failure for the sensors and catalysts. Without that simulator our lives would be terrible. Diagnosing P2196 and 8 can be tricky. We make sure that the P0420 and P0430 codes are for real. The cats are poisoned, overheated, or tampered with. I would hate to set a P0420 as a false fail Type 1 error. Keep up the good work. I learn good stuff from you.

What a coincidence. My '07 Grand Marquis with only 49k just threw the 2196/98 stuck rich code. Previously it was parked for the winter so no real use since November. With this code it seems there are so many possibilities I wasn't sure where to start. No obvious vacuum leaks and a brand new air filter. What's really funny is my work truck is a '13 F150 5.0 :D. And it sounds like you have that thing running great- sounds like mine and it only has 17k miles ;)

Took it to a shop and they said there was a leaf stuck in the MAF. Sounded strange but i had no issues after that although my gas gaugue would stop right beneath Full. Well, now im getting codes for running to rich! And my o2 sensors are showing up again. It cant be those since i just replaced them last week. Any ideas!?

You need to have this diagnosed properly chances are the exhaust being bad again and it's not what's wrong more than likely can be some kind of intake manifold leak or vacuum leak or some kind of mass airflow sensor issue or something like that but then again at the same time I don't think a 2016 has a masterful sensor so I don't know speculation you have to have it properly diagnosed I don't know what else to tell you right now
