Turbos are $500-$800 depending on the model for a new one, used ones are less. It's not the turbo that is the common failure point, rather there are more rubber hoses for the intercooler, the intercooler itself, more wiring, more vacuum lines, coolant lines to cool the turbo, etc. The bigger points of failure are the intercooler and the plumbing.

I've never been into American cars...but I would make an exception for the fusion. It looks so awesome!

I ordered a manual and have no regrets whatsoever. You get a lot of looks in this car and imo it's the best riding car in the class for it's price.
@AAutoBuyersGuide11 жыл бұрын
And by the way, Aston was owned by Ford when the modern Aston look was designed, so Ford may lack creativity in designing one shape and applying it to the Fusion as well, but at least it was their shape in the first place.

Great advice about bringing your family to see the sedan to find out about leg room in the back. I took my family to the LA Autoshow to seat everyone and adjusted the seat as if I were to drive it, EVERYBODY in the car had plenty of leg room and were very comfortable. I love the new 2013 Ford Fusion! Go Ford!

Even though I wanted the 2.5 engine, this video pretty much convinced me to go 1.6T. I wanted 2.5 due to the fact that the engine has been around longer and it's performance is proven as well as easier to work on.

the fusion is easily the sexiest midsize car out there. Specially in the Titanium trim with the 19 inch rims.
@DK07x10 жыл бұрын
Is it midsize in America? lol... It's quite big in Europe. Mid size is like ford focus
@AAutoBuyersGuide10 жыл бұрын
SHAD3R775 In the US all the sizes are shifted down a bit. The Fusion is a mid-size, the Focus is a Compact and the Fiesta is frequently thought of as a toy car. It takes something like a long wheelbase 7-Series or XJ to become a "full size".

I would buy the Fusion over the Optima as well. The Mazda 6 wasn't out when we shot this video but we have recently spent a very brief time in the new 6 and I came away impressed. The new 6 is a very solid vehicle, handles very well and Mazda has spent some time getting the infotainment systems right. Still, the Accord CVT is very, very good and the Altima 3.5 delivers very impressive fuel economy.
@AAutoBuyersGuide12 жыл бұрын
That would be an extremely tough choice. My personal favorites would be: the Fusion Hybrid, Altima 3.5 and Accord Hybrid, in that order. If it were my cash, the Fusion Hybrid would be in my driveway.
@AAutoBuyersGuide11 жыл бұрын
With only extremely limited exceptions all vehicles sold in North America will run without a problem on regular gasoline. However, running on lower octane gasoline than your engine was designed for will likely result in lower performance and/or lower fuel economy depending on the design. Modern vehicles, expecially those with fully electronically controlled variable valve timing and direct injection are capable of adjusting for various fuel grades safely.

6-7 years a turbo should be fine. 150,000 miles shouldn't even pose a problem for modern turbos. However, that said, in general the V6 should be the long term reliability champion simply because there is less going on.

I own a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium in 2020 and I love it. I've bought newer cars and returned them. They don't drive the same. Ford definitely should redesign the Fusion. They need to make it lower and give it newer technology.

It's fuel economy. EPAS supposedly improved EPA 2008 scores by 5% and you can do things like the lane departure system and self-parking. I think I'm OK with the trade off.

I like the Sonata but I believe the styling is very subjective. The interior of the Sonata isn't quite as good as the Ford and the Ford 1.6L engine gets better mileage. The Ford offers far more options (at a price of course) but lacks the lighter interior colors available in the Sonata which I like. The Ford hybrid system is smoother and more natural than the Hyundai system but it doesn't really get better mileage than the Sonata Hybrid in real world driving.

This is Ford's regular 6-speed automatic in the USA.
@alexdykes11 жыл бұрын
That's a tricky one. I would probably go for the Ford Fusion Hybrid first, but I would load it up with radar cruise, self parking, MyFord Touch, etc. I like the fuel economy and I really like Ford's new hybrid system. If I was going to go for a less expensive choice, it would be the Altima. It's comfortable, has an open and airy interior and the V6 gets incredible mileage. I don't mind CVTs but if that's a problem for you, then the Accord is a solid choice. -Alex D.

Bought my first Ford ever. Got the manual and LOVE IT. Extremely smooth shifting. My husband has a 2011 VW TDI which gets great gas mileage and I thought shifted smoothly until I drove it after 2 weeks of driving my new Fusion. No comparison. I also test drove the Altima, Passat, Optima & Cruze. The Optima/Cruze can't touch the ride & quiet cabin of the Fusion. The Passat & Altima were close but the Passat's interior is just boring imo & the Altimas interior looks like it came out of the 70's.

Great review, as usual. But I am curious about your comments at the end regarding what you'd buy with your money. Ok, so you'd buy the Fusion, the Accord (yawn), and the Altima. Im surprised. No mention of the Optima or the new 2014 Mazda 6. Cvt's are out of my search because they are boring. The new accord is out because its mostly a refinement of what we have already seen. Honda is great, but too mature in design. I think Im going for the Mazda6 2.2 Turbo Diesel. your opinion of the 6?

I have learned the hard way why you should avoid the Fusion and maybe all Ford products. 1.6L, you are lucky you did not burn up. Have a 2 yr old Fusion in the shop for over 50 days now for stalling while driving. They gave it back 2 days ago and it lost all power when I was driving after 30 mins, so it went back. Told Ford I don't want it and give me a new car and they are fighting it tooth and nail. Also have a 10 yr old Accord, zero problems. Ford, Quality is Job None.

Ford is sketchy on the details there. The feature you're after is Lane Keep Assist, it should be on the window sticker.
@Stere0guy11 жыл бұрын
Okay, perhaps I only had it in the first mode. I don't think then it matters if it has the parking assist or not? I'll take one for another test drive and see if the non parking assist version has both modes. I really like that car. I'm thinking about buying a loaded up Fusion SE or the Toyota Avalon basic version. Both around $32,000. Thanks for your help.
@AptomJ11 жыл бұрын
Alex, is the transmission in the Fusion dual clutch or just traditional transmission? Thanks, great review.
@Stere0guy11 жыл бұрын
Another excellent review. Question, in referring to the lane departure feature you said, "since the car has the parallel parking assistant anyway" "and the electric steering" that the car will just steer you back into your lane. I tried an SE model with lane departure but no parallel parking assistant and I don't think I felt that. I only felt the wheel make some vibration. Wondering if you know if there are two lane departure systems, different with and without the parking assistant? Thanks!

@AAutoBuyersGuide10 жыл бұрын
Well, the Mazda3 really competes with the Focus not the Fusion so in that respect they are kind of different animals. The Mazda3 handles better but lacks the features and more powerful engines available in the Fusion. The Fusion is bigger and I think it is better looking. If you can afford the Fusion it is a great car but the Mazda3 is a less expensive option.
