Getting the wiring harness modified and installed on dads 2013 GMC 2500HD. Then I get to test it all out!!
Things that might help with a project like this:

I got a question so I am trying to install a western wideout on 2011 Chevy it came from a dodge can I get away with the light adaptors or you think I need to buy the one light hardness from western where it’s like $250
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
@@GardenViewLawncare It all depends on what you want to do and if the dodge harness will work. You can buy the plug and play harness and it will be an easy install but cost you $250. You can probably get the dodge one it to work like I did if your harness is the same one I used. You are probably not going to have the solenoid because the newer plows will have that on the plow side. It should be the same otherwise.

Nice job. I have the same set up on my 2011Sierra 2500hd crew cab. I still use my 15 year old uni-Mount too,without the wings though. Still works good! I’m surprised I haven’t seen you or your trucks around. I have relatives that live in Warrens and I’m up there during the summer visiting and fishing the Cranberry bogs for crappies.

Glad to see it all work out with the wiring and dad's new truck has a plow. Loved the video on the wings you made. Those things are sweet and way better then the junk they sell that get destroyed it seems every time you drop the plow. My old plow truck was a 98 2500 with a blizzard 800HD now I have a 04 2500HD (both Silverados of course) and thinking I am going to modify the mounting frame to fit the new truck. There really doesn't seem to be to much of a difference between the 2 mounts and have read about others doing it as well. Will have to do some head light mods like you did though. Keep up the great work bud.

I think it would be better to just get a new/used mount for your 2004. I think it will save you a bunch of time. Those mounts just bolt on.

I liked the mount on your dads truck it has those extra brackets for support on the frame. I just put a new mount on my Ram and I thought it should have a little extra support since I am running a 9’ pro plus. Western tells me it is what it is.
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
The new truck mounts are beefy for sure. I would have no worries hooking those mounts to a 12000lbs winch. You should be fine with your mounts. I ran an 11' plow with the older style brackets.

The plow drops real hard, adjust the drop speed on the pump so it drops softer. It will save all your A frame welds from cracking. Nice job getting it mounted.

I adjusted it that way 15+ years ago. It helps knock the snow off and also raises better. I played with the quill adjustment a lot before deciding on this setting.

And when I swapped from the 15- to the 18 everything worked but the headlights flash like 20 times when turn the truck on I guess the isolation module is different for the Newer trucks

No wire splicing just plug and play? I just got a 2020 and would like to put one on before winter. Were you able to use your tow hooks? For some reason mine didn't come with them but it looks like they were bolted on at some point. I can see the marks of the nut. Dealer said they order them with them off.

LEDs don't put out any heat which means they ice up without a lens heater. I was tempted to swap mine and then changed my mind due to that. Huge problem in the winter.

Hey I'm having an issue with my lights.. i have a wiring harness that was 9004 bulb high/ low which is three wires. High, Comm, and Low wires.. I'm going into a 2008 gmc which is 2 blubs 9005/hb3 and H11.. now 4 wires how do I make that work? I got high beams working fine but can get low going no matter how I try it

Did you put Timbrens on the front of that truck? Looks like it squats pretty hard when you lift the plow. My '09 K2500HD did the same thing.
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
This truck doesn't need any help up front. It doesn't hardly move with the weight of the plow. In 2011 GM put bigger torsion bars up front. I am not sure where you are seeing so much squat.

Would you ever buy an already plow truck ? I’m a little Leary . I found a 2010 Sierra 2500 with 200000km , clean shape
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
That is a tough question. Without being able to look and drive it I am not sure. Some people are really hard on a truck plowing. So even though it looks clean. The trans and other parts could have been abused. It would have to be a good deal to take the risk I think.
@chachifeere
@chachifeere 4 жыл бұрын
Ya I know. I feel like the 4l80e trans only last 200-250km when using it for plowing. Had to rebuild one in my 02 at 190km. And we swapped out dads in his 02 at 250km. So I plow truck with 200km kinda scared me lol

I have the same issue on first test with no controller power. Even with direct power to the battery. I tried a couple controllers still nothing. Any ideas?
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
I had power to the controller it just wouldn't turn on. You check all your fuses and grounds? The controller won't power up unless the plow is plugged into the truck side wiring.
@gabe1616
@gabe1616 4 жыл бұрын
mossman381 I checked the fuses, they’re good, my wiring is grounded good to my battery, I put the controller wire directly to the battery for power too. What else is there for grounds that could possibly screw it up
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
@@gabe1616 In the harness there are a few grounds that plug together. Make sure one isn't unpluged. Your plow is plugged into your truck when you are testing? Without the plow being plugged in it won't work.
