Man this makes perfect sense, I was struggling to get the blinkers back on after I upgraded my headlights for my plow. Your video and the way you explained it, made me understand what I needed to get the blinkers back on. Thank you for taking the time to teach on the schematics of the relays too. I fixed my turn signals by running the gray and purple wires to the fuses for left and right blinkers.

Awesome! Bought a used plow from a friend and a few things are missing. This will make what parts I do have work without buying anything! You sir, are a genius!

Awesome video! I've been looking and looking to find information on how to install MM1 wiring harness on an '08 Silverado just to see if anyone's done it So I have a look ahead on what I'm into. I've installed it on three different vehicles so the installation of the plow wasn't Any problem? It's the older wiring harness mine's actually three relay setup single action double thro It was pretty frustrating to get the lights to work and I didn't quite understand how the relays work but thanks to your video explanation of what and how and why was perfect There's a lot of videos out there where people show you the the relay and explain how it works or what it does, but they don't actually sit down and break it down on paper and show you what it does. Really appreciative. Thanks for making this video make lots more

Thank you very much. After a couple of months of searching.... and not finding anything that made sense without being stupidly complicated and expensive, I rolled up my sleeves and put this together before the Maine snow started flying. Worked perfect through the Maine winter last year and expect nothing less this year. Hope this helps.

Dude, that's brilliant! I was trying to come up with a way to do this. Thanks man!

No problem and thanks for the positive remarks. After spending a month (on and off) and probably 40+ hours trying to find the info on the Internet I finally gave up and dove into the project and figured it out for myself. Couldn't keep it to myself. I know there lots of people out there that give up and spend $500+ dollars to have it done when, in the end it's quite simple.

Nice video. But I’m stumped. I have it hooked up the way you recommend. Only issue is that truck lights don’t go out when I plug the plow in. And if I just try to use parking lights that’s all the head lights go out. Any suggestions? Thank you

im here because i got a customer that has a plow that is having intermitent lights that go out. i tested fuses and relays. all work. one wire comes back grounded but when hit with 12v off the power probe, the fog lights come on, but will not come on with the switch in the cabin... did have green boogers in the main connector behind headlamp drivers side.
@xzaviar19656 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're trying to repair a full harness factory setup that taps into the wiring harness at the headlights. There is probably a circuit in there to prevent the fog lights from being used when the plow is attached. There's probably a chafe in the harness somewhere causing a voltage bleed back to the fog lights intermittently. If this is the case it could be very possible that the intermittent voltage caused by the chafe is sending power to the wrong relay when contact is made and either energizing or de-energizing the one of the relays temporally. Unfortunately, wiring issues can be a time consuming problem. I'd start just like you did then, thoroughly clean all grounding points. Next I'd dig in and inspect the whole wiring harness for a short anywhere it rubs against the vehicle, to include the plow head and the firewall where it goes into the cab. A wiring diagram for your particular harness would help you lots, but there are so many harnesses variations out there you may end up with the hunt and peck method of wire identification. I'm not a mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined and pretty good with electrical issues on vehicles. This video was made on the second plow I've installed in 30 years. I made it because there are tons of people trying to install a used plow with a harness made for a different vehicle than intended without spending hundreds of $$$ and taring the whole front end apart.

Sorry for the delay. It is right in the 3 wire connector. The plow head had set for about 4 years and the terminal was a bit corroded.

can you bypass the headlamp setup all together if all your doing is swapping the pump to a previous setup?
@xzaviar19656 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the question. If you have a plow that is already setup and are just putting a new pump on, just go ahead and swap the pump and use the existing wiring on the new pump.
@Mysticalmage076 жыл бұрын
im going from a cable setup to an electric setup. the wiring from the electric setup. cable setup has a stand alone light system but wasnt sure if anything from the electric setup had to be pluged in.
@xzaviar19656 жыл бұрын
Just a word - I make things work as I go, when needed. The following would work with my wiring harness. As always when not using the manufacturers approved components all is done at your own risk. If the lighting system is already hooked up and working I wouldn't change anything on that. All I would do is use the portion of the wiring harness that controls the pump and in-cab joystick. It's very straight forward. Negative lead from battery to ground on the electric pump motor, Positive from battery through the solenoid then to the positive connection on the electric motor. There should be a connector (7 or 9 pin) coming off the hydraulic solenoids on the electric/hydraulic pump that will connect to the truck harness. The truck harness will be routed through the engine compartment then into the cab for the joystick. One hot wire from your fuse block under the dash to the joystick connector. In the engine compartment you will have one or two wires, from the harness, that will hook up to the pump electrical solenoid that actuates the solenoid and sends power to the pump motor when you press the buttons, or in my case move the lever on the joystick. You may have to run a separate ground wire from the negative terminal on the pump to the hydraulic solenoids under the black plastic cover of the pump. All the other wires can be secured and wire tied under the hood. If you do not have the harnesses you will have to make/buy them. If you don't have the joystick you'll have to buy that also. There are different joysticks, depending on the pump configuration so that's another thing to take into consideration. I'm not a plow mechanic so all I can share is from my unique situation, you know - I just made it work the way I wanted.
@Mysticalmage076 жыл бұрын
that is very helpful. i am good with electrical just havnt worked with an electric plow before. only thing i was unsure about it how the solenoid worked and how to rewire it. didnt think i needed the headlight relays but again wasnt sure.
@xzaviar19656 жыл бұрын
If it helps you can think of a Solenoid as a very heavy duty relay. The two large lugs are for the high current battery pass through. Some solenoids will have either one or two smaller lugs - if it has one that means the solenoid gets it's ground from the mounting bolts, if it has two you'll use the wires from the harness. You may end up using just the hot wire from the harness to one of the small lugs and running a jumper wire from the other small lug to ground (just use the mounting bolt for the solenoid.

Where did you hook up the ignition wire to
@xzaviar19654 жыл бұрын
The only ignition wire that I remember comes from the joystick controller in the cab. I connected it to a fuse in the fuse panel on the left side of the firewall in the cab. I suppose any fuse will work since the joystick has an on/off switch but I used one of the circuits that powers on only when the key is in the on position. The joystick requires so little power to function that I just used "whatever" "switched" fuse I found first. 3yrs, no problems - it's my yard truck now.

aren't they supposed to switch over when you plug them in from the factory
@xzaviar19654 жыл бұрын
Yes, and this vid is about how to do that without tapping into your headlamps and blinkers (without removing them and tapping into the wiring) and without the isolation module.
@elwoodpolarisrzr59574 жыл бұрын
I thought the old 2 plug did not come with a isolation module
@xzaviar19654 жыл бұрын
They probably didn't, I haven't installed a plow for 20 years. You seem to be knowledgeable about this system and this vid seems to be beneath you, it has helped quite a few people. What's your goal with these comments?
@elwoodpolarisrzr59574 жыл бұрын
I am trying to find out if I am missing the I M or if I have it wired incorrectly I have a old 2 plug and It did not come with one only 2 relays and I cannot get plow lights to work ……. ps the video was great
@xzaviar19654 жыл бұрын
My harness came with 2 relays, I threw them away and went with the 3 relays. It's the only way I could get it to work as designed. The harness came out of a 1997 truck, maybe it'll work with that year vehicle but I don't know how. Like I said in the vid, this is how I got it to work with my vehicle, it may need to be modified to work with yours. The vid was made for information on how to make a harness that wasn't designed for your vehicle work on mine. You need to identify each essential wire for the lighting, like I did in the vid and ignore the rest of them. I started with the plow headgear, used a multi-meter and made a diagram of the pin-out of the headgear plug. I then used that diagram and a multi-meter to identify the individual wires in the harness I needed to work with. I cut the extra wires and isolated them with electrical tape so they didn't confound my wiring the plow. The rest is what is in the vid.
