My 2013 Kia Cerato has this problem and I found your video really helpful. I can't fix it myself, and my mechanic told me it was a $30 part with $800-$1000 labour charge. He suggested I ask KIA because maybe they can do it for less. I guess I understand why now. Thanks.

I’m glad you found my video as well, as you may or may not know some KIA models were recalled for this issue and it is a free fix via KIA dealership. Usually they will send out a mailed letter to the owners of these particular vehicles if you have not received that information I would call the dealership to see if your vehicle can be done for free as I said for (recall). As for mechanics unfortunately there’s real good honest mechanics but then there’s also not unfortunately. I truly wish you could have someone do it for you it truly is a somewhat simple fix and the part is only about five bucks on Amazon. I wish you the best stay safe.👍🏽✌🏽

Hi Casp72, can I ask for advice - I got the coupler cog part replaced which is all great (AU$515); but when I drove away I realised my turn indicator lights no longer turn off once I have turned a corner, the Kia service place is saying that it is not their fault because they replaced coupler link from underneath, not by taking steering column down. Is this possible? I have a 2012 Kia Cerato. I am struggling with lack of knowledge. All I know is my indicators worked when I went in, but was not when I left and I think they should fix it.

@@katee4190 sorry to hear you’re having trouble in my honest opinion I would have to say because of the fact that it was not acting up prior to taking your vehicle in it must be some thing they did perhaps wiring wasn’t connected correctly or didn’t connect securely. You don't have to disconnect that at 12:39, that is part of the box under, and you don't know what that is. WOW. -- I just did this on my Kia soul 2012 and I removed the seat. LISTEN guys: Remove the seat and you will thank me 10 times. It's only 4 bolts and two connectors. I remove all wires and even the little metal box under the column the one you can see at 9:49. then you can remove the back 14 mm bolt easy. I took down the column and the electric motor was in front of me. Nothing bended or broke, and no code or engine light. Car is perfect. The coupler was intact but feel spongy, so I install a new one.

Just an fyi this part is $1.50 at a Kia dealer if one is close by, auto stores want 13-17 for them. Also my car has a metal box attached to a bracket under the steering column, removing that helped me get to the back bolt, 2 12mm bolt on the right side of a black bracket. Thanks for the video I did it But at the next day the EPS light gets on So what's wrong now?
@solisapaul4 жыл бұрын
WHILE DRIVING When the ESP warning light comes on while you are driving your Kia Soul, do not worry, this is normal, it informs you that the ESP system is working in particular when you take turns. The sensors will send data to the computer which will analyze them and if necessary activate the electronic assistance systems. ON A RECURRING BASIS On the other hand, if the light does not go out without a valid reason, then this implies that you must have the sensors checked, a bulb may have burned out. Consequently, the mechanism informs you that the computer is no longer receiving the data necessary to start the ESP. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Hi, even after replacing coupler sound started to come after one week, what could be the possible reason
@solisapaul3 ай бұрын
I would say that if it’s the same exact sound as well as the vibration on the steering wheel, it’s possible that the coupler was either of not good quality or not aligned properly. Unfortunately, the only way to know this would be,you would have to inspect the coupler that you just installed and make sure it’s still seated properly or did not crumble, not all couplers material is made with good quality material. So this applies to the 2012 also? I have recently noticed my wife's 2012 Soul+ (53k miles) steering seems a little stiffer than usual. Thought it might be due to power steering fluid needing replacement but then learned there's a power assist motor in the Soul, not a typical hydraulic system. I have also noticed a slight clicking noise so I think I am at the beginning stage of this coupler problem.
@jdryyz2 жыл бұрын
So is this coupler failure due to a poorly engineered part and is the replacement part any better? Will it just fail again in the same span of time?
@solisapaul2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and that is a very good question my assumption is that the material that was used on the original OEM coupler was perhaps faulty which led to premature failure. I’m sure these couplers we’re not meant to wear out at all again I believe it was just a bad batch so to speak.

Collin Andrews first I would like to say thank you for watching my video. As to your question about experiencing noise when going over bumps I would say if you do not experience tremble at your steering column at 60 to 75 mph or the clique and clank from steering left to right while driving or not then it’s very likely you could have a rack and Pinion steering related issue. I hope this information helps by the way I someday wish to visit Canada I hear it’s a very beautiful place to visit.

@@solisapaul Thank you! The steering column does shake at high speeds and click when I turn right. I have an appointment next week at my local Kia to get the coupler fixed. On the 2012 Kia Soul there is a hanger at the end of the steering column that will help the column align in the correct position. Then put the 2 nuts on the column toward the front. This will allow you to pull up and down on the steering wheel to get the bolt all the way through. I had to get upside down all the way under the dash with my daughter moving the steering wheel to get the bolt through. Once that bolt was in it took 10 minutes to put it all back together.

Honestly, if the engineering team would’ve put more thought and effort into owners servicing the steering rod that leads to the motor and gear shaft, they might’ve possibly come up with something slightly more service friendly. mavis4201 Thanks for watching it’s not as hard as it seems truly, it’s just very tedious. In the end it truly is a simple fix for what could cost an arm and a leg so to speak. 👍🏼✌🏼

The only problem I had was I should not have totally removed the bolts on the front too on the column and should have waited till after I got that rear one done it took a while to ratchet that thing all the way out cuz it was in a bind so it's better to just loosen the front two bolts to get to that top rear bolt on the column

You didn’t show the hardest part! The through bolt is hard to find. Personally I did not drop the column or disconnect harnesses. Once all 3 bolts are loose, you can turn the motor down to gain access. No one is mentioning this but the end of the assembly has a tab that rests on the through bolt bracket. Once you sit the tab in place, it is easy to get the through bolt in.

My car is having this issue now, is it dangerous?
@solisapaul4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching since this is happening to your vehicle it would be very wise to have it fixed as soon as possible it could lead to further damage and possibly loss of proper steering control.👍🏽✌🏽

Very interesting most of the cable harnesses are set by standard snap and fit so it couldn’t be that he plug them in incorrectly? I would immediately take it back and explain to him what is happening. This is a simple task more less and should not cause any issues to any electrical system. I truly hope this gets resolved sorry for your inconvenience stay safe and sound.👍🏽✌🏽

Remove the two screws on the steering wheel before you disconnect the battery because you will still have power steering to turn the wheel easier..

2008 Elantra with 173K millas y aun esta nuevo como el primer dia. Como diablo manejan estas gentes? Tratan muy mal a sus autos, y sus autos son sus caballos antiguos. Nadie trataba mal a sus caballos. --- 173K miles and still working like the first day. How the heck this people drive? People treat their car like shit. The car is like a horse in 1800, no one treat them bad.
