I have an 08 with 240k, paid $12k for it…so don’t pay new car prices, these things if maintained will last 300k plus. Can’t agree with the “truck ride” comment. Anyone who has ever driven a truck with leaf springs in the rear might disagree. My Sequoia has coils all around and independent rear suspension making for very a comfortable ride. Newer models offered air ride in the back. Not sure about the noise either, my engine is super quiet. She’s a gentle beast and a whole world of mods out there. There is a reason this vehicle has been around since 2008 with this platform. No diesel either…with modern emissions, maintenance costs will far exceed gas mileage gained. Thanks for the video, nice work!

In general, this was a great review. You were very clear and easy to understand. As an owner of a 2008 Sequoia 5.7L - here are two counters on space and MPG. Space - the feature that it does have (and only a handful of other vehicles possess) is 3 LATCH seats across that 2nd row (3 kids under 2) and keep the 3rd row folded down to fit 2 strollers, a pack N play, and 3 sets of chairs so they can be fed (that's just a day visit to grandparents). The Honda Odyssey can fit 3 across, but doesn't have the 4WD for go up/down the mountain we live on. The GM SUVs can't do the 3 across (only 2 LATCH connections, the second that impairs the use of a 3rd seat belt) - this has since been changed for 2015. MPG - Depends a lot on how you drive. My wife is easy on the gas and always gets 14-15mpg in NJ traffic. I get 12mpg on the same route. One plus for the big engine - even when fully loaded with family and all their needed accessories plus a full Thule rooftop carrier, we still managed 17 mpg on a 5hr highway drive. I don't think any minivan would maintain it's EPA highway mileage. Thanks again for a great review.

What you save on gas with Yukon, Expedition and other comparable vehicles you'll need to hold onto for the numerous visits you'll be making to your favorite mechanic while you put his kids through college. Meanwhile the Sequoia will still be out on the road with just normal maintainence.

How can anyone compare a Cadillac to a Toyota? Cadillacs are garbage, always have been and always will be. Don't mean to sound like a commercial, but what they say about a lot of Toyotas from many years ago are still on the road today is true. You hardly ever see old Cadillacs still on the road today, I guess seeing is believing.

I have a 2008 Limited and I'd like to comment why it's the right vehicle for me. You're 100% correct that it's kind of a special case as far as room. Sometimes I have to move a lot of people, sometimes a lot of stuff, sometimes a combination of the two. Being able to switch between cargo and people freely and in a very customizable way is very useful to me. With the two rear rows down, I can put a 4x8 sheet of plywood flat on the "deck", which is hard to do with most modern short bed pickups. With the passenger side seats down, I can fit a 10 foot long piece of lumber easily, or a 12 foot long piece with some angling. No hanging stuff out the rear window or out of the bed anymore. The towing capacity lets me easily tow rented trailers for extra large or extra dirty loads that aren't good to keep inside the cabin. I can run to the hardware store and get lumber, then put the seats up and take my whole family somewhere, then put the seats down and put 20 bushels of apples in the cabin to deliver to a bakery, then put the seats up for the kids' carpool, then hook up a trailer and take three tons of scrap metal to the recycler. I can do this in all weather and road conditions with 4x4 and Toyota's awesome stability systems, the comfort of the luxury Limited trim, and the peace of mind that comes from being in a huge vehicle with side curtain airbags that run down the length of the whole cabin. It's not a vehicle that specializes in one job perfectly, but a generalist vehicle that gets a huge variety of tasks done very, very well. Given the legendary Toyota reliability I expect she'll keep on working hard for many more decades so long as I keep up on the maintenance. No such thing as a free lunch, however, and the gas mileage is indeed terrible. I can confirm 11MPG with "average driving" is about right. I would also very much like to see these offered with a turbo diesel engine. In 2018 the Sequoia line is stale and outdated and needs a reboot, I very much hope to see an efficient and torquey 6 cylinder diesel on offer.

There's 3 reasons people buy Toyota 1. Reliability. 2. Resale value and 3. Durability. Also Toyotas are usually fuel efficient but as the name says this is a Sequoia which means Giant.

I have one of these. I tow a 6000# 26' travel trailer with it. Needless to say, it is perfect for that. I trust Toyota quality & reliability, and Toyota resale- that's why I bought it. I find it to be quiet with good handling and a pleasure to drive. You can buy the SR5 model of this truck/SUV, brand new in the low 40s...and give up very little in terms of features. Very good review.

Great review like the intro about being an average guy... subbed! Bought my 2010 Prius, 2015 Siena as my commuter great fuel economy put 160k on the Prius had zero problems. Yesterday traded my 2012 GMC Yukon XL for a 2016 Sequoia. Loved the GMC, but I just have more confidence in the Toyota reliability and the wife hated driving the GMC XL due to its size. Not going to lie it was tough to hand over my Yukon, but I bought the Sequoia for long distance trips with my family so I chose the Toyota reliability.

My mom has a 2013 Toyota Sequoia and it is pretty amazing. Yes, interior quality could be a bit better but hey, it's a Toyota truck. Meant to be "trashed" a bit and be able to clean everything up. I've driven it and we've averaged less that 12 mpg which is HORRIBLE. I wish they'd offer more diesels in the states. I'd totally buy one. This truck is also huge so parking it can be near impossible sometimes, even with the backup camera option that we have as well as parking sensors.

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with one, in fact I've never been in a Titan either. It does seem like the Armada hasn't been updated recently and is likely getting a bit long in the tooth. Given that Ford's Expedition hasn't been changed much either...if you're looking for something new, the soon to be released GMC/Chevy Yukon/Tahoe twins might be best option. thanks for watching! -Greg

Great video but i think you miss the market toyota is trying to reach with this vehicle. This is an off road vehicle simple as that. To say this is in the same class as Yukon or a Tahoe or a Durango or an F-150 is ludracis because none of those trucks can go up a mountain. these transmissions are meant to tow and climb where a tahoe engine is made to cruise around town. Toyota produced a great car isn't really worried if they don't sell the Sequoia in the states, the market that is buying these like hotcakes is places like the United Emerites that has sand dunes all around. I think this video would have done this truck justice in an off road setting.

Even though you don't have enough space for 8 people and all their space, it is nice to be able to cary 8 people OR a crap load of stuff or and mix of the 2. Yes a minivan is cheaper, but it can't tow much, and a truck can tow and carry but i couldn't take 8 people when to lunch from work once or twice a week like I do. That is why I love my Expedition, it isn't the best at anything but it gives so many options... I still don't understand why the sequoia gets such awful gas milage though, my expedition has the 5.4 and is 4X4 and I get almost 16MPG driving like a crazy person....

Oh, BTW- My 5.7 4WD Sequoia routinely gets MPG in the high teens- even over 20 mpg -on the flat freeway at 65. Better than the V8 4Runner that I traded in. Of course, that's not when I'm towing my 6000# travel trailer. Then, its more like 10 MPG. But that's pretty much what everyone gets when towing big.

Sam Jacobs which is sometimes hard not to do lol. Love mine. Traded a Mercedes-Benz GL350 bluetec diesel for one, and while there is a definite difference in build quality like how the substantial and solid the doors on the benz is, there is no denying this thing will give us years and years of reliable driving long after it is paid off and the warranty expires, something thatbis less likely with American vehicles, especially as the years go by. The turning radius is incredibke for such a large vehicle, and being so big it really doesnt feel that big when driving it. Overall I love it. The oeace of mind alone is worth it. Resale value is crazy good too. Is it die for a redesign? Yeah, but i like it because it isnt overloaded with all kinds of unnecessary technology whicu is more that can go wrong. Its a more simple, honest reliable vehicle. Does the gas mileage suck? Yeah, but if if that were my concern id have gotten another gl350. That 10.5 inch rear end and 4.30 gears does kill fuel economy, but it will tow better than just about any other full size SUV.

I too am confused by the Sequoia. It seems like they are trying to compete with the other luxury SUVs on the market, but I would say the quality (and refinement) just aren't there to be on the same level as those in the class. I've been trying to think of a compelling reason to pick the Toyota over the others in the class and can't think of one. Hope that arm heals quickly!

I don't get the bad gas mileage reviews of these big SUVs, it's the same as driving their pickup siblings, and most people who buy pickup trucks, don't have much a use of the bed either other than hauling toys and trailers (once in a while). Most of them are driven as daily commuters but when it comes to the pickup trucks, gas mileage is all fine but if you put an SUV body on the same truck chassis, suddenly the gas consumption becomes an issue. these huge pickup trucks and SUVs are truly an American miracle of innovation by enabling the railway locomotives to be road worthy by deleting the diesel motors and putting tires. I would like to have not one but two of any of these truck chassis, one in pickup and the 2nd in SUV version. They should give away a Prius or some TDi for free when you buy a pair of trucks.......
@gcavy1
@gcavy1 11 жыл бұрын
I think if you bought a couple of loaded Sequoia's your dealership might be inclined to do so! I complained about the mileage, b/c its even lower than other truck/SUVs on the market. And yes, the mileage sucks on these, and I complain about the mileage on trucks too. Until the small diesel in the 1/2 truck/SUV market becomes the norm, I'll probably keep complaining! thanks for watching and chiming in. -Greg

$60k would be way out of my price range. While I find it quite attractive, it's more SUV than anyone in their right mind should need, unless you have people who are gargantuan in size. I'm a big guy, but I'm not *that* big. And being more of a pickup truck kind of guy, I'd be just as happy with a Toyota Tundra.

Tow stuff and pay top dollar to do so... Remember he was getting 11mpg towing nothing but this hunk of corporate crap.

Seven years down the road form this review. Do a web search for used Sequoias and take a look at the pricing for a 2013 model with low miles (if you can find one). These are meant for long term ownership and towing capacity. You’ll pay $20-30,000 for a 2013 with under 100k miles. I have a 2004 Chevy Express conversion and it has the most comfortable ride of any vehicle I’ve ever had, but it’s a cargo van underneath, so I wonder what a “truck like” ride means.

First time viewing. Great job. I agree it is a vehicle for specific uses. I have had a 2001, 2003 and now a 2011. Currently have it to tow my boat, and in the winter the snowmobile trailer. Fully enclosed so the vehicle has to be full width with trailer towing mirrors you would have on the Tundra. A truck just didn't fit what I do on a regular basis so the Sequoia does a great job. I also agree it should have had the Diesel they promised years ago in 2008. That would have made it a game changer. Now Jeep has it in the Grand Cherokee.

hopefully I'll be getting that in too. I know others are wanting to see the 2014 Tundra as well. I rotate through the local dealerships to try and give equal exposure so the new Corolla will be coming...just not right away! thanks for watching! -Greg

Of all behemoth SUV’s, my money is on the Sequoia for ruggedness, reliability, and lifespan. GM has nothing that can outlast Toyota.

and here in eco California. Thousands of these are sold for single occupant vehicles. Stuck in traffic. If you have a specific need, yes buy one or similar. Otherwise they are a middle finger to the climate. like ur reviews tho...

Hopefully with Dodge and Mazda bringing in the diesel engines, the others will finally follow. Makes no sense since all the auto manufacturers have diesel offerings all over the world except in the U.S.

Bought a 2017 this week. Gas no big deal. Only 60.00 per month more than my odyssey at 15k miles per year. One option trade a month to make up the difference. And only 40.00 more than the expedition 2019.

11 MPG DAMN... I get 15.9MPG driving mixed city highway in a 2006 Ford Expedition 4X4 with the 5.4L. And I don't drive gas friendly, i like to drive with my foot in it, lol. Often i wish i would drive a little more gas friendly, but that is no fun.
