The Fast Lane Truck

Күн бұрын

( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2013 Toyota Tundra is Toyota's biggest and most powerful pickup. With a 5.7L V8 engine that puts out 401 lb-ft of torque the Tundra is fast and somewhat thirsty. It is also on the way out because in 2014 Toyota is debuting the next generation of the American built Toyota Tundra. But before we can test the 2014 model we want to test the 2013 Tundra. In a series of three videos we test the current model from 0-60 MPH as well as from 0-60 MPH with out test boat and final we take the current Toyota Tundra off-road.
In this third informative and entertaining video we take the big Toyota off-road into the Colorado Rocky Mountains to see how the Tundra does when the going gets rocky muddy and steep.

a RAM 1500 is not in the same class as a Tundra, everything in Tundra's class has no locking differential if I'm not mistaken. The frame is better than all the other trucks, you are probably referring to the bed flex (or something like that) video, well the tundra performed better leading in a straight line and it's frame does flex more than others so it isn't damaged.

Commenting about the sound of a motor: The common sense tells us that you want a machine to be the most silent possible. That's the art of refinement. Noise is bad. More noise is worse. So, you should applaud the big motors that DON'T sound at all. :) For those of you who like to hear big noise at the exhaust, I think this is just a tradition, that came from the era when it didn't matter the noise, but it expressed the power of an engine, and it gave confidence. We don't need that anymore.

also, speaking of wasted space, i never understood what the point of having a pick-up bed that small was. and I'm not saying that because this is a Toyota, the same goes with every truck. There is no way you will fit a couch into your truck when you need to help a family member move or something. Speaking from experience, I recently helped my cousin move and both of my uncles have pickup trucks: one has a 6.5 ft. bed and one has an 8 ft. bed. Both were extremely useful. Stay away from 5.5ft beds

I noticed how you guys went on to praise this truck for durability but then left out the Truck has a fraction of the competition's frame strength. You also forgot to mention that this,aside from the ram 1500 is the only truck in this class to not offer a locking rear differential. Kudos to Toyota for offering a 4.30 rear axle ratio though.

The Tundra is a full sized half ton pickup truck just like the Silverado/Seirra, Ford F150, Nissan Titan and Ram 1500. So yes the Ram is in the same class. And GM offers a autolocking rear diff while Ford and Nissan offer manual operated locking diffs. Also a test was done to measure the frames strength between the last gen Silverado, the Ford f150 and the Dodge Ram 1500 and the tundra. The Ford got .144 inch of frame flex, the GM got .183, the Ram did .270, the Toyota did a .637, the worst.

Greater frame flex is much better as it provides more flex without being damaged
@rangerover06sc
@rangerover06sc 2 жыл бұрын
@@captainmikehagen459 No it makes the body and box flex more which makes it more prone to damage. Which is why they switched to a fully boxed frame. You don't need your frame to flex thats what your suspension is for
@captainmikehagen459
@captainmikehagen459 2 жыл бұрын
No it definitely doesn’t😂 Greater frame flex does torque the body more but if the truck is designed to take it then it results in less damage, besides it’s far easier and cheaper to fix body alignment issues than to replace a bent or cracked frame such as what would occur with the other rust prone trucks you listed
@rangerover06sc
@rangerover06sc 2 жыл бұрын
@@captainmikehagen459 Toyotas are just as prone to rust if not more. But if that was the case then why did they switch to a stiffer frame. Why does the entire puck up truck Industry keep switching to stiffer frames
@captainmikehagen459
@captainmikehagen459 2 жыл бұрын
Toyota’s are not more prone to rust, my daily driver is a 2013 Toyota Tundra and I live in an area in which road salts are used frequently and the conditions are very wet and I have never had an issue with rust on my tundra, and I’m constantly thankful for my trucks articulation and ability to flex without being damaged

3rdgen4runnerguru Man I been asking myself that for years. I watched the interview with the 2018 Tundra and the Engineer said they hadn't had a demand for it and no plan for a tundra I call bullshit. The only time Toyota had anything close to a locker in the rear end of the Tundra was the 2007 and 2008 model Tundras with the mechanical limited-slip which halfway 2008 they stopped producing and favor of the traction control aided set up that applies the rear brakes to minimize wheel slippage between the two wheels. Which is exactly the opposite what you want when you're in the mud or snow and need tire spin in order to maintain momentum. Unfortunately there are only a few manufacturers of true locking differentials whether it be air, mechanical or electronic for the tundra in the aftermarket.

True, but it only really gets long when you have the "SuperCrew" with 6.5 ft. bed., and the people who buy SuperCrews use their trucks to do the school run and family hauling. Those people buy their trucks just so they can say they have a truck, yet they don't actually use it for what it is and could manage with a Toyota Corolla. I guess that is the only purpose of the 5.5 ft. bed.
