I want to thank you for explaing taking off the engine cover for others. I tried to take it off when was cold, and broke the cover. It sucks.

Excellent video & very helpful. The VW engineers who thought this up botched it. Thank you for sharing.

Bless you for being so thorough! Been trying to find a good video on how to do this. Bought the filter months ago and it just seemed like such a pain and could not find a good enough video until now.

Luckily for me, I have the 2013 VW Passat TDI, the air filter is very accessible. Your video made me hesitate doing this myself. Good video where it's applicable. 😀

Great video. I would suggest that the engine cover be removed starting with the two rear connectors. I also wrote with a lead pencil the approx position of each post on the cover so when I have to service again I would know were to pull. Also, I used a plumbers wrench to compress the clamp- easy-peazy. The whole process took less than 1/2 hour. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip to warm up the engine really well before attempting to take the engine cover off. Yes, it's nearly impossible to get it out with the engine cold. I'll never understand why the VW engineers made this design so unnecessarily complicated.

Your video was right on the money! Another fine example of German engineering. It took me over an hour to get that stupid hose back in position. I used a vise grips to hold the clamp open while I played with the stupid hose. Gone are the days where one wing held the air filter cover and it was a no tools EASY replacement.

2 tricks to make it easier. 1, use wd40 with straw to spray the two front rubber mounts. 2, use a clip removal tool or flat screw driver to push up on the two front rubber mounts. Than lift up front and the back pop out.

a VW dealer in Southern California charges this for 70$ dollars plus tax. I got one from Autozone for 20 and replaced it by myself...
@gilbertoromero38763 жыл бұрын
Same in Texas they charge $110 for the oil change, $75 for the air filter not including the labor

Some of the simple repairs suck but my car has 180k miles and purrrrs like a damn kitten. I love it!

@@HowToHelpPeople also 2.5L with 6 Speed dsg transmission? My wife's is at 50k so far and last time I've worked on front brakes I realized that drive both front drive shafts rubber shields are broken already. I'm surprised with that at so low miles.
@tmoney52472 жыл бұрын
@@Welder-zo7ju That's much better than my wife lol. I haven't had any issues with the front suspension or components until recently but the car has 189k miles so I would expect it.
@tmoney52475 ай бұрын
I'm on 210k miles and it still purrs. The key is to do the routine maintenance, and most of the time you'll be ok.

I heard that cleaning the air filter will turn on the check engine light in my 2020. Is this true?
@latoyajohnson72484 жыл бұрын
Do you think this would be the same process for a 2012?
@HowToHelpPeople4 жыл бұрын
Yes as long as its the 2.5L engine.
@HowToHelpPeople4 жыл бұрын
If you can post a picture I can also verify but im pretty sure it is. If your engine looks the same as mine does then its a definite yes.

Those two parts you disconnected at the beginning what are they called?
@tmoney52472 жыл бұрын
They are screws and they are called T20 screws. You need a T20 screw driver, or screw head, to remove them, it looks like a star head.
@tmoney52472 жыл бұрын
If you referring to the hose looking things, one is an intake hose and the other is the hose that goes from the air filter and into the engine.
