There is absolutely no reason to dislike the master coach's comment and insights. As much as I'm usually not fond of any commentary, I've never seen any major coach did this in any other sports. Really appreciated. Btw, he did say that "it is easier to comment than to play, the player's probably making the best decisions anyway."

If you really wanted to do that, mute the video, or find the English version of the match. Liu Guo Liang's analysis and commentary is a jewel for aspiring players, given that you can understand the language. Oh well, another incentive to learn Chinese!

Commentators are fantastic - one of them is Liu Guoliang (head coach for Chinese National Team). Their commentary is really insightful - much better than the English language commentary.

The rallies are so short because the spin quality of every of their shots were so high it prevented each other from returning every shot comfortably. When the spin is this high, the flight and bounce of the ball gets irregular and unpredictable. Not even MaLong can produce such effects consistently, which is why WH has a much easier time against him than ZJK. Boll also produces such effects, but to a lesser extent than WH ZJK.

At 12-11 ZJK had his 1st game pt after being down 5-10, which he rushed the next receive and lost it. When he had it again at 13-12 he knew he had to compose himself after the high-energy point at 12-12, which sent his heart racing away, where he's prone to rushing and erring the receive. Also ZJK had been flicking every serve for some time. After TO he pushed short instead, catching WH by surprise hence a weak return. A physiological adjustment and a tactical change won the critical game.
This is arguably the most high level match played betw the 2. esp tactically and psychologically. In all previous finals betw them, either of them are under some form of pressure. In this match, neither of them are burdened by any high stakes, hence both are relatively relaxed and clear headed to play their tactical best. Both players are so tactically calculative they were adjusting tactics betw every pt. Most other players were merely adjusting tactics once or twice each game.

And thanks to the uploader, janus770, for all these terrific videos... Table tennis was my life when I was a teen, and I even won an Olympic Gold in Seoul 1988. Okay now I'm bragging but its true. ;)

I'm Chinese and I find Liu Guoliang's comment, as usual, is priceless. You have a problem, go watching Euro sport

3 things can happen under such high spin (upspin). 1) ball kicks off the bounce violently, sometimes bouncing higher than normal. (happens when ball's flight is higher) 2) ball dips down quickly after bounce, flight path lower than normal (happens when ball is fast and just clears the net) 3) ball slips off table surface on bounce, friction just can't grip the ball's spin (happens when spin is much higher than ball speed). Some players wrongly regard this as bad bounce.

Zhang was lucky in this game. In 5th set, Wang led Zhang 10-7 but he couldn't grasp over three match points. And in last set (6th set), when Wang led Zhang 7-5, zhang won a point with touching the edge and changed the situation and finally Wang lost Zhang by 7-10. After this point, Wang won no point!

Wang Hao also has some balls touching the net. People may be lucky at some point, but it's the main reason to win the game.

That game 4 was the difference. Wang Hao up 7-2 at one point. Even had several game points. Could have brought it back to 2 games a piece maybe putting doubt in ZJK's mind. But no dropped that one. 3-1. Game over. Too bad. I was pulling for WH. ZJK certainly is great in the clutch.

mcrohof is right. Liu talks too much, while the TV host made many off-target comments as usual. Zhang Yining was way better when she commented the other games. Shows more respect and only talk between points while still provide lots of insight. Ma Lin was also good when he commented the pre-Paris trials. Others often avoid anything direct/negative. I also don't recall Chinese head coach ever got so much attention in the past, although Chinese team had better records than WTTC 2013.

Zhang simply has better defense than Ma long, and calmly created more variations of spin and locations. Ma Long played too many diagonal shot, also no change of pace, which were countered hard by Wang particularly with his backhand.

I disagree, part of the fun is speculating on strategy and trying to figure out player's tactics. Liu Guoliang already knows all their tactics because he taught them, so he spoils the mystery...

It's also a balance thing. Of course there are instances that you talk while the play is going on, but it should be kept to a minimum, just as if you were sitting in the audience, "watching". Also, explaining and analysing to the bare bone is disrespectful to most of the knowledgeable audience, and also to the players, in the sense that it is very easy to sit at the sideline and put everything under the microscope. But IF you feel the need to do it, do it IN BETWEEN points. Healthy balance...

What's idiotic here is that I should have to explain, again, that talking continuously while the play is going on, LIVE, is like saying that the commentary is more important than watching and concentrating on the play. It distracts, get that? It's perfectly normal to elaborate on the play IN BETWEEN points, not DURING. If you want to make a live broadcast into a instructional vid, then say so; I do not. Make a documentary aiming to instruct and promote Ttennis, fine, but respect the live play.
