My first new s class was a 2003 and through 2009 it gave me no problems. Got the 2009 s550 AMG Cause of a cure edition, and still have it. Gave it to my son 2 years ago when he turned 16 and it has about 160,000 miles and still runs great and is still gorgeous. Only had to change the tires, and struts, and AC repair in all those years. Either I’ve been very lucky or the consistent oil changes and basic maintenance at a local (non-dealer) shop keeps them running great.

Great overview! I purchased a ‘14 S550 4Matic CPO in 2016 for a about $65K with 1,700 miles on from MB Manhattan. I also purchased to extended warranty and rim/tire insurance at the time. I have 92k miles on it now and never had any major issues. All service is performed by MB. I love this car…provides a highly exceptional driving experience like no other car I have ever driven. Now, i did have an ‘07 S550 that had tons of issues. Keep the great reviews coming !

I just purchased a 2019 s560 Mercedes sedan. The car was a certified preowned vehicle. It came with a CPO warranty. I purchased two additional years. The warranty was expensive but covered almost all major issues. I traded in a2015 s550 Mercedes sedan which had 70,000 miles. They gave me 23,000 dollars for my trade. I ended up paying 58,000 dollars for the new car minus the warranty. I was lucky not to have had any major problems. I had a friend who had two air suspension units go bad. Bill was seven thousand. Warranty was worth the coverage.

The real problem with all these high end car companies is that they don't want to build quality. If you spent $80,000 on a Rolex, or other high end time piece, the watch would last forever. Every five years or so you would send it in for service and it would come back brand new. But, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, and Mercedes, all have the philosophy of GM. They don't want to build quality because then they won't make any money. They want the car to break down. And, the cost of repairs to be so high that the dealers make money or you get so fed up that you want to buy a new car.

I wanted a new daily driver after 5 years with the W222, the new one didn’t work for me, like you said, mostly the interior. I bought a brand new Tesla model S and kept my W222 alongside my W140. I must say that my W222 has been very reliable (115k miles), easy to work on (after working on a W12 Bentley everything seems easy).

I drove the W222 (S350 Eurpean version) for 4 years as UBER BLACK, i drove it around 12 hrs a day... i love it over the brand new, the first thing you'll notice is that after washing the car, there's a chance that the water have penetrated the front lights, and they cost 1200€/each... Suspension front shock absorbers can get old very fast along with brake pads... Anything else is superb, but avoid the S-400 and S300 they're HYBRID versions, and they can cause you a head ache after 5yrs in use.

I Totally agree ! This body style had so much class. The sloped down nose and the elegant tail lights and rear is far richer looking than the new body style. I don't care for the flat front end and the redesigned rear tail lights which you can't tell the difference from a Toyota. I own a 2015 S550 AMG Sedan. So far, so good. Of course, I still only have under 36,000 miles. I've owned a 1998 SL500 ROADSTER and a 1995 S500 SEDAN. Never had problems with either of the cars.

I really love this car and intend to buy one in short order. My preference is the pre-facelift with the AMG multi spoke wheels, probably the most common looking s550. What I hate is knowing those beautiful wheels can easily leave you stranded due to hairline cracks resulting in quick tire pressure loss. My current AMG has only 19” wheels and all the wheels have been repaired for bends and cracks. I have tried performance tires, luxury comfort tires, adjusting air pressure it doesn’t matter they crack and make the car prohibitive from using on long trips.

Part of the reason I opted for a 210 E55, over a 2014 E63s, was no airimatic suspension, 18 inch wheels with more tire for rough roads, and I could buy outright… Don’t get me wrong, I would have loved the latter, if for no other reason than the massaging seats…

👍🏻🤔 thanks for preventing me buying a 3-5 year S class as I have been planning. We drive 2 MB, a 2022 GLE350 suv and a 2006 S350 sedan. It’s all about research and preparation, if you want to own a high end luxury car like an s class on ‘somewhat’ of a budget first explore all warranty options and then I highly suggest owning a beater car as well...hard daily driving these cars is what racks up the maintenance costs, and just do your research know what routine repairs cost and put some money away for a rainy day, owning these cars is like owning a fine suit

I owned a 2017 S63 and a 2020 S560 of the W222 series and it absolutely is the best Mercedes Benz S class of all time. I owned every one of them since the mid 1980s and the W222 is the best. The current W223 not so much. Too many gremlins and the dash is atrocious. Two iPad screens? Seriously? And the air conditioning vents reflect onto the windshield that produces too much glare. The W221 was also a very fine automobile. I put it in 2nd place. The worst car MB ever made was the era between 2000 and 2006 with the W220.

Its hard to "wear" out the interior of a god mobile first of all. I get it, once something goes wrong with the engine its a big cost, but so is the depreciation of any new 2023 model car oiver the next 5 years. I dont see this loosing 20% more of its value. the 2015-2020 model will hold a strong resale value as you're essentially getting a maybach interior with the v12 biturbo performance engine.

I now have a 2016 MB W222 and I would give anything to have my Lexus back. It rode smoother and literally never had a problem at all in the 100k miles I drove it. MB has already had the tilt steering stop working, check engine light on (environmental crap), and I think I have an airmatic issue. Has 47k miles. A friend of mine who is a big Jaguar fan advised me always, when buying a pricy luxury vehicle buy a late model certified used vehicle - you save a lot of depreciation-and buy the extended warranty. These things are expensive to fix, and they do not have the reliability you would expect for the money. In fact my Mercedes SLK has been in the shop more times for non scheduled maintenance than the 4 that is right 4 Hondas I have owned.
@MeynMotorGroup
@MeynMotorGroup Жыл бұрын
The craziest thing about reliability is just how unpredictable it is. You say you're SLK has been in the shop constantly however I met an individual that daily drives an SLK and has never had an issue with it. Every car purchase is just rolling the dice this is why I would get a warranty no matter what car it is or just lease a new one
@derjaeger3321
@derjaeger3321 Жыл бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup No, the SLK is not in the shop constantly, but more than I expected out of a MB and certainly much more that the 4 Hondas I have owned. Of the 4 Hondas and approximately 200,000 miles on them one was in the shop for a non scheduled service and that was a flat spot on the steering wheel due to my iron fisted driving style and one Accord that came from the factory with a bad wiring harness. The Benz crapped out on me ( on my way to Canada for vacationwith some sort on intercooler problem - I managed to limp through vacation as long as I did not drive it in the rain go figure). and it crapped out on me with a high pressure fuel pump problem and a bunch of other little niggles. But it is a great ride, and worth the hassle I get more comments on it than I got on my Harley and that bike drew a lot of attention. There is just something about a two seater with that Three pointed star on the grill.

I just bought beyond awesome 2015 S550 with 80K miles for $29.000 … one owner , retired couple … Endurance extended insurance quoted me $170 monthly for Premium plan … I put about $5000 down and my payment is little over $500 per month … car is like new , it is amazing … I do have a credit card , dedicated to this car , if it needs something , it gets it right away … it’s not my point A to point B car , it’s my passion , and every time I sit in it , it’s an experience … for running errands I use my 2013 GLK 350 which I also love , both cars are fantastic , my daughter likes GLK better than her 2023 Dodge Challenger 😂 … but yes, S550 is unbelievable, if you want one , and you are in US , you’re very lucky , because these cars depreciate unbelievably here , S550 like mine , back in Europe, would cost me around $70.000 - $80.000 … God bless the USA 😊

@@peps5508every car has issues , cheaper cars have cheaper issues , and expensive cars come with expensive issues, and S class is as expensive as you can go with standard factory Mercedes … if you are buying used S class , make sure it has few previous owners as possible , and check service records and Carfax … also do all preventive maintenance items you can , it’ll save you a tons of money … m278 is pretty easy to work on , so if you are a DIY guy, you’ll save a tons of money as well … you have to stay on top of the recommended maintenance and service , exmp. don’t change your oil every 10K miles , I change mine every 3K , change all of your fluids after you first buy it , and then keep changing it regularly , engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant , brake fluid, differential fluid etc… change all those fluids every 2-3 years , it’s cheap and affordable way to keep your Benz happy and running smooth … if something breaks , fix it right away, don’t procrastinate or unsolved issues will pile up causing an expensive repair… take good care of your Mercedes, and it’ll take good care of you , for a long time … these S class are all over , parts are readily available on eBay or on line stores specializing in European vehicles (FCP Euro and some others) … if taken a good care of , these cars will run hundreds of thousands of miles , there are w222 with 300-400K miles for sale all day long , all over the Europe , many used as taxi cabs, and those guys take good care of their cars … if taken care of , these are amazing and highly reliable cars … key word here is maintenance… I wouldn’t buy any tuned cars like AMG etc. because tend to be driven hard and abused , your best bet is a regular S class owned by some wealthy retired people , if you can find those (and you should be able to) go for it , and enjoy …

Mercedes lost its way in 2000. Originally MB was an excellent company at the start but these new cars are JUNK with pretty interiors. They are overpriced and unreliable sad to say in this day and age about MB or any car. I spent many hours in the MB service over 22 years and would never own any MB product again.

While most of this is correct as someone who used to drive bmw 750s I can say the S class is much more reliable. Yes it’s expensive to maintain but that should be expected. Even my S65 while horrendously expensive to maintain didn’t have hardly any parts fail. Did have 3 cracked wheels though so on that I agree 100%

A mastertech that I know has two benzes with over 300k miles on them each, he said he's never had an issue with either one. I know another gentleman who bought a new at the time Corolla and his transmission took a dump on him along with someone that has a 2019 accord with a myriad of issues. This stuff is too unpredictable and that's why I just tell everyone to lease, buy CPO, or get a warranty.

Beautiful cars to look at, drive, think about. With that said, as you mentioned, all luxury cars are disposable and best owned under warranty or lease. You even mentioned that Toyota or Lexus being disposable is just the nature of the beast. I love your videos and opinion. But the fear of owning a German out of warranty is not just a complexity it is a quality issue. I have 2 Lexus vehicles, as in the others I have owned. I suspect they will last for years and trouble free. No squeaks, no leaks, just good service. In the rare event something does go wrong, the service is unmatched. If this wasn't the case I'd be happy to rock a Mercedes or BMW. I don't focus just on reliability, but I do believe it is a factor in quality. "The wheels crack right left and center." No thanks, but thank you for the honest review. Wrecked cars are seldom worth the discount, and I never knowingly would buy one.
@MeynMotorGroup

Great point my friend reliability might not need to be a first priority as long as one is covered but quality is important. I don't think a Lexus product is quite as disposable since you can owner that for an additional few more years and will have high resale value so that helps out consumers tremendously. The worst thing about vehicles like the S class is how hard they fall in value which makes it hard to recommend new or used although they are incredible products.

Unfortunately most MB dealership don’t do a single thing except print out and enroll CPO. Dealers won’t spent $100 on a CPO cars and Hope smthg go wrong in a few months and warranty pays for it. Dealership CPO model is broken cos there is no inspection from Manufacturers so dealers cheat the system.

I cannot believe some of the comments regarding Mercedes Benz vehicles especially the s class derivative. I have had the pleasure in working on a considerable amount of vehicles over the years, including Rolls Royce and Bristol. I can categorically conclude that Mercedes Benz high end vehicles are superb, giving performance with class and panache. Yes some cheaper models arnt the best, but compaire these models to cheaper low cost manufactures such as Ford and even these are far superior. The Mercedes S Class is without question in my mind is one of the finest vehicles manufactured in the 21st century to date.

There isn't so much a question or a doubt about how superb the S class is as a product to drive, experience, sit in and indulge with. The topic of this video is regarding a buyer's guide for new potential owners and what they need to watch out for when buying one. Not one time in this video did I say don't buy it, I merely said buy it the right way, CPO or lease and dump. That's it. Rest of the commenters don't watch the video, they just comment something ignorant and leave.

I just bought a 21 LC500 convertible with 20k miles on it, I negotiated a maintenance package that covers all maintenance / oil changes / basic repairs / etc. Should I be okay??? I'm related to an auto engineer and she said it should be fine until about 80-100k miles and suspension issues arise. I’m probably already late but there great engines and can handle extra power (tunes) fairly well, but they do have some problems, some of the 2015 model engines got a new liner in the cylinders to help prevent/minimize the chance of bore scoring, while some still have the older liner, the older liners from what I know aren’t bad, just not as good as the newer ones and other than an some oil leaking issue that you need to keep and eye one (and probably install a protection kit on to be safe on the camshaft positioning sensor and solenoids) there really good engines, seen some go to 250,00 miles plus with now major issues, so just do the maintenance that the car needs (I recommend every 5k mile oil changes or 8 months maximum) and check/know its week spots and it should treat you well.

All these high end luxury cars should be so well built that they should last 100,000 miles without any mechanical problems whatsoever. The car owner should only have to change the oil, rotate the tires, and address normal maintenance issues like tires or brakes. But, then the Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW or Mercedes dealers wouldn't make any money. They want your car to break down after the warranty, and then the cost of repairs to always be so high that the dealership makes a fortune, or you get so disgusted and decide to buy a new car. Hopefully from them..
