This video was requested by none other than one of you. If you have a request for a video please leave a comment and I will try to accommodate. I thank you for all your support of the channel.

I have a '15 GLK350 basic with the 276. I decided that since I have been changing spark plugs in engines for over 60yrs - cars, trucks, motorcycles, lawn mowers, outboard motors, etc that I could do this. What a poorly designed layout this engine has from the service standpoint. I agree individual coils are the state of the art, but my '18 Ford Explorer has 83,000 miles with the original plugs and when (and if) I change them it is a piece of cake compared to this package. HOWEVER, I wanted to THANK YOU for putting this video together. I was able to do the RH side without any added instruction, but 4,5 and 6 took a couple of hours, but not without your help. P.S. Mine is a '15 and the short harness with gray plug is now non removable. And the little bracket on the side is now attached to a bigger, longer bracket that makes removing and reinstalling the spark plug lead even more difficult. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing....... "MB really buried the plugs in this one"........ I bet that valve cover gaskets replacement is fun too. That tool is over $100. Not picking on you; you did not design the engine. It seems with all the Newer German Autos, you need a special tool and be a Contortionist to do any repair. Back in the Day, everything was built to last and was "serviceable" and fairly easy to remove and replace. Where did all that go? Thanks for Sharing Again...

Hi, nice and useful video. Did you disconnect the battery to unplug the ECU? The ECU needs a relearn when it's plug back to the harness?
@TheSAFiles
@TheSAFiles 2 жыл бұрын
Mercedes Benz recommends you remove the negative battery terminal when working on any thing electronic. That being said I have access to tools that not all DIY people have so sometimes I don't do it but have never had a problem. There is no relearn either. To be on the safe side I would disconnect the neg. battery terminal.

any known issues on 2m157 engines ? I have 2013 ml63 amg and I will be taking it in for 30k miles service . is it necessary to replace to fuel filters .
@TheSAFiles
@TheSAFiles 3 жыл бұрын
The dealer should provide you with an estimate on needed repairs. Fuel filters are mounted inside the tank and are very rarely changed unless a problem arises. Seeing as you only have 30k on it you should be golden. no common issues with that engine. It is seven years old so spark plugs, transmission service brake fluid flush, engine drive belt, engine air filters and a/c filters along with either an A or B service will most likely be recommended as these items are due if they have not been done already.

@TheSAFiles
@TheSAFiles 3 жыл бұрын
so you can use a trim tool to remove the "clips". the only issue is that they usually break anyways. as long as you route the harness back the same way and some of the clips survive you will be ok. the harness is heavy duty and shouldn't get damaged due to the materials used to make the harness. hope that helps.

I had a 2010 and now a 2014. SA Files mentioned that the 2014 has Direct Injection - more power (302hp vs 268hp) and better fuel economy. One of the reasons I switched. I use 2.1L less fuel per 100km in real world driving with the 2014 GLK (11.9l/100 vs 14l/100). However, more power is never 'free'. Eventually comes at a cost... like when plugs need changing :/

I'm not going to lie to you........its a rough job if its your first time. I would start with the passenger side as it is the easier side and it will get you use to the work procedure. If you're a confident mechanic/technician it shouldn't take longer than 1.5hrs. If you're not that confident just take your time and it will probably take around 2.5 to 3 hours. It really all depends on the coil boots releasing from the spark plugs as this it the hardest part of the repair. The driver rear coil is the hardest coil of the bunch as well as the spark plugs as there is the least amount of room. Good luck and happy wrenching.

I am rewriting my comment. First, the driver's side is terrible. Practice on the passenger side (getting coil clips to release, spark plug location). On driver's side, IMHO #5 is the worst, #6 next, #4 is easiest but not easy by any measure--there is not much room to work in. I could never get connector on the front of the motor to come apart, however, I found out that you can rotate it CCW and it will come out the bracket. You will probably destroy at least one coil boot-have a set on hand. You will need to remove the dipstick bolt to get room for #6 and it is ALUMINUM, be ready to catch it!! I could not get the plastic pipe to release but was able to work around that problem. On #6 I used a short extension and shorter ratchet to break the plug loose and then turned it our by hand. Did I mention it is very tight back there? Good luck, you will need a fairly good set of tools to pull this off.
