The US 328d is the equivelant to the European 320d as far as I can tell, what doesn't make any sense to me, is that when I check the US website, their 328d is set to do 31mpg in the city where as the european 320d is set to do 44mpg in the city... same engine specs and both AWD... rather odd imo, can someone enlighten me on this matter?

Imperial gallon.
@electrictroy20109 жыл бұрын
Martin Nysom Nielsen If you were looking at the UK car, they use gallons that are 125% in size versus ours. So 44mpgUK == 35 mpgUS. (Also that number comes from the European test track which is inflated 20-30% higher than EPA numbers.)

BMW needs to offer the Diesel here in the USA. Is diesel for everyone? No, of course not. But I believe that there are people who want a performance car with excellent handling, is fun to drive, and is attractive, but they also want something that is fuel efficient, that's reliable, there's plenty of places to service the engine when needed, etc. If you can afford the cost of diesel fuel, you should be allowed the option of a diesel powered car. :)

I am looking at the BMW in Sweden and no 328d but 320d touring specs sheet shows 184 hp from the 2.0L twin turbo engine so why it is 180hp in the USA for the 328d? it should be higher I think? the 325d makes 218hp, are you sure it is 328d or are you sure it is 180hp?

Chanse, I hear you about the lack of manual but diesels are a bit different with the low end torque. Throw in the short shift 8 speed tranny and a manual would be a disaster for this car.
@michelleosullivan858711 жыл бұрын
GreekboyyD, I don't think you have driven a manual diesel in a while. We own both a 2010 VW Golf TDI manual and a 2011 Golf TDI Auto. The 6 speed manual is nicely mated to the low end torque and I can accelerate quickly shifting at 2000 rpm...and although the EPA rates the highway mileage as 1 mpg higher with the auto, in real life the manual easily exceeds the auto by about 4 mpg when comparing similar routes. I am averaging 42 mpg overall with the manual and we are getting "only" 36 mpg overall with the auto. This car would be PERFECT with a manual transmission option...

Diesel costs the same as premium gasoline in the US???? waw ...
@sic22l10 жыл бұрын
Premium gas in US is the equivalent of European 95 octane regular fuel. US regular gas is European (discontinued) 91-octane.
@KAMU1310 жыл бұрын
Not really. Diesel, right now, is about 10-15% cheaper than the 91-Octane.

That's a big jump, you just went from a very nice 50,000$ car to an unimaginative 20-25,000 car. If your looking at this car, why would you even consider a Subaru?

Looking at a used car website. 3 years old with 35k miles and is selling for $25k USD. Many for sale at similar price and miles. Lost half its value in 3 years. Might be a good buy at this price.

Michelle, I have driven a diesel manual recently. Have you driven one with 425 lb-ft of torque in it? There's a reason you don't find them in manual.
@sic22l10 жыл бұрын
You do find them. In Europe, not US.

Very nice car, but really pricey at twice the cost of a VW Jetta Sportwagon TDI. Still, I'd like to see this diesel engine in the BMW X1 if they can keep it under $40k.

@huss1205: BMW North America likes marketing their cars with higher model numbers. World 320d = North American "328d" World 530d = North American "535d"
@huss120511 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the info but I just don't see the reason for that. Americans like it to be fooled by manufactures or what?
@MirkoReinhardt11 жыл бұрын
huss1205 Apparently that's what they think. But then I'm not sure why they didn't just call it "399d"...
@NIAtoolkit11 жыл бұрын
huss1205 It's 180-hp because the US doesn't use metric horsepower. 1 kW = 1.360 metric horsepower 1 kW = 1.341 horsepower (US/UK) So the (320d/328d) could make 180 or 184 horsepower depending on the conversion you choose to use.
@huss120511 жыл бұрын
NIAtoolkit Thanks for the response but I know what KW and hp are. I am not arguing for the 4 hp difference between 180 he mentioned in video and the 184 in specs sheets. The gentleman up there, Mike, answered me, it's about marketing names no more. Thanks again!
@markmayfield222810 жыл бұрын
NIAtoolkit Thanks for the heads up. I looked at the UK spec sheets and saw that difference and said to myself, 'Why don't they just offer the V6 version here?" Difference between the engines is 160kW (UK) vs. 190kW (UK). I'd take the engine upgrade in a heartbeat.

@QiuyuanChenRyan9168 жыл бұрын
My friend bought one despite the fuel price difference. Over a whole year she still saved around 1200 Canadian dollar after a regular 40k per year millage for her and her partner who drive an audi A3. The most significant different according to her is when she adds more people into the car or some loads the fuel economy doesn't change that much compared to a gasoline powered car which is where she saved the most money from.

@QiuyuanChenRyan91611 жыл бұрын
It is in fact an experiment conclusion. Since no one was able to reach the official number exactly, then we let drivers try to get the most fuel efficient with their skills. However, of course in this case which is a inline four, it is more efficient with manual and plus it is a diesel.
