2014 Bob Jones Award: A Tribute to Payne Stewart

Payne Stewart tragically passed away in an airplane accident on October 25, 1999. Earlier this year, the two-time U.S. Open champion was named the 2014 Bob Jones Award honoree. Presented annually since 1955, the Bob Jones Award is the USGA's highest honor, recognizing an individual who demonstrates the utmost spirit, personal character and respect for the game. Known for his passion for golf, sportsmanship and philanthropy, Payne Stewart won 11 professional events during an 18-year PGA Tour career.

I love Payne Stewart he was one of my favorite golfers.. I would of loved to see him pair with tiger woods in the 99 ruder cup but it didn't happen ..

There is a huge difference between “religion” and a “relationship” with Jesus Christ. Religion didn’t change Payne. Jesus did. Payne went from a cocky, self-centered person known for doing all the things most of us did as young men. Even with all of his success, Payne knew something was missing in his life. You see it in this tribute to him. Everyone around him saw the power of God moving in his heart, turning his self-centeredness into selflessness. If you watch Payne in the last few years of his life, you see the cockiness and brashness turned into humility, you see the genuine concern for other people. That my friends, is who Jesus is, and Payne’s life became a true example of the redemptive power of God that changes peoples’ hearts and minds.

Some of these comments, most of them, are way off base. Payne was my favourite golfer and an all time great golfer. Beyond that is a tale of redemption. If he found solace in religion then more power to him. Also, no need to deride anyone by calling them an ass. We are watching golf history!!
