I had to install a new fender. That panel you cut into is part of the fender mounting structure. That's why they didn't make an access hole in it. To get the wheel well cover off to access the structure is just a bit easier than removing the front bumper.

It's almost as if to make the existing hole that was already there slightly larger was forgotten in the design stage. Considering the C6 was designed with such an access hole. The car is great but as with many great designs comes some poor engineering choices.

Looks as if you can just remove that platic panel you cut in order to get at the cover from the side too. My driver's side bulb is flickering. So, im going to try this as well. 👍

Let me know how it goes. Once I got in there that plastic panel looks to be bonded to the inner structure on the engine side.

Thank you so much, I always figured there was a better way other than removing the whole front end of the dam car..lol you would think GM would have made that cut out bigger as it's predictable that a headlight bulb would blow out at some point...lol

Considering some of video’s talk about using painters tape etc to protect the edges and paint I’d rather make a hole that no one see’s than having to deal with that oh oh moment when you scratch the paint.

Good job 👍

I would fire you in a heartbeat if you did that to a customer's car. Not the proper way to replace that bulb

I don't work at a dealership. This is my personal car and this is DIY, as such it's my choice. Who should be fired? The engineers who already put half of a hole to access the cover anyways and somehow came up with the brilliant idea of having to remove the whole front fascia and light assembly to get to a light bulb, consider that when the fender paint gets chipped on removal and assembly. It's called a money grab at your local dealership considering on the C6 they designed it with a access hole accessible from the inner fender!

Cool story, no one asked. Its HIS way of solving a problem
