2014 Camaro SS 1LE AMSOIL 75W-90 Gear Lube Change

This is the 3rd AMSOIL fluid we have changed on Anthony's 2014 Camaro SS 1LE.
We changed the rear differential gear lubricant to amsoil 100% synthetic Severe Gear GL-5 specification specifically designed for the Camaro SS 1LE with the upgraded differential which requires 3.3 oz of added AMSOIO Slip Lock anti-chatter additive. The rear differential capacity is a little less than 1qt of 75W-90 GL-5.

I just changed the front and rear dif and transfer case fluids to amsoil this past month in 6 vehicles. All dif fluids were overdue by appearance but not even halfway to Ford’s guidelines. Love this product line!

Nice yeah the Jeeps are definitely a blast when you're off road! I used to have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee limited burgundy red with those silly gold wheels and I tell you what I had a ton of fun with that sucker! I used to do burnouts and figure eights in the gravel parking lot. That's probably the most fun I've ever had with a $1,100 vehicle

Thanks Thomas yeah definitely a surprise when I drove that car it really has unusually a lot of power I was fortunate and drove a 2014 Z28 with the LS7 and I think this car makes another 13 rear wheel horsepower over 4000 RPM

Of course that's normal It's called filling it until it overflows and then all you do is just spray it off and get the film off and you're good to go 👍

Yes it'll allow the fluid to flow smoother and that will increase the oil pressure in the valve bodies which will allow it to actuate and shift smoother with less vibration.

A lot of guys with these vehicles do intermittent track days some do autocross where you're driving very slow but you're putting tons of pressure on the differential by doing tight turns under load and that really wears out the clutch packs. definitely important to change the diff fluid on something like this every 20,000 mi in this hot driving conditions

Also , Eben: the lady who had the 2010 Ford Focus that you did the oil change on in Florida.....if she ever wants to do the Transmission Fluid Change , i'd love to see that, because i want to see how that Transmission Responds to the Amsoil Signature Series Fuel Efficient Transmission Fluid. I've been using Dealer Motorcraft LV in my 08 (which is the same car as hers ) and i've been a bit leary to try it, even though i know it's the best you can get for a consumer car.

oh yeah nothing to be worried about you'll notice a big difference in shifting it'll shift quicker because the fluid flows with less parasitic drag also you'll notice less vibration and a small bump and fuel mileage. not to mention your transmission last way longer because it'll operate at a cooler condition and for every 18° cooler a lubricant operates at the lubricant oxidizes it half the rate. For Camaro do you have to put slip lock even though bag already had friction modifiers?

Just depends on the component most likely you don't need it but if you do it will specify it on the lookup guide it will say under the notes to add more depending on the rear differential some take extra like the Dodge Viper but most of the GM vehicles do not require extra slip lock additive. If you ever do a vehicle that it does not show in the lookup guide and it Chatters when you turn tight that means you need more slip lock additive to allow it to slide easier and have less chatter. That Diff Original Oil came out metallic heavy. Is that normal for a original Camaro with such low miles?

It will be interesting to do a Differential oil change after Amsoil is in it already with the ziplock. To see the real difference... Do they do test on transmission and Differential oils?

Yes most likely that was the original gear lube possibly it could have been changed out before because this is a modified car that makes an additional 75 rear wheel horsepower than stock.

Eben, the lookup guide in Asmoil's website calls for either of sae 75w-90 and 75w-110 for my Hyundai Genesis g80's rear differential. I ended up ordering 75w-110. I hope the difference is not major to 75w-90 or will i have problems? What are your thoughts?

The biggest thing the 90 is meant for is better fuel mileage. You'll have better concussion protection with the thicker viscosity. If you're doing drag racing you would definitely want the thick stuff. They are both fine for any application. 😃💯☕

Great questions John yeah you'll see in the video there's a part where I show the dashboard I think it had 42 and change on it. I'm going to say that gear lube was only in there for 15 or 20,000 mi because the guy that had up before really took good care of it but I believe he did do intermittent track days and/or autocross and that coupled in with the heat out here in Las Vegas the OEM gear lube doesn't have a chance...... Lol

Oh yes it's always good to make sure it doesn't chatter. If the rear end chatters that means you need to add more slip lock additive and that's a great way to make sure it is good and you don't need to add anymore 💯👍😊

I’m about to use Amsoil for the first time despite having listened it is too expensive. Here’s what I’ve calculated for my 2021 Tacoma Pro. It takes 6.2 quarts. If I use the cheapest synthetic and filter it will cost me 31.41 per change. If I do this every 3k miles it will cost me $1,046 over 100k miles. If I use the Signature Series AND the Amsoil filter it will cost me $77.92 per change. If I do this every 5,000 miles it will cost me $1,558 over 100k miles- ONLY $513 more. If I drive 10k miles a year the Amsoil will cost me $51 more per year. I think I can handle $51 more a year EVEN IF Amsoil isn’t any better. If it is- the $51 extra each year is a bargain because it likely has saved me more than the extra $513 over the 10 year period. Obviously if I changed the interval to 15,000 miles it buys its way in BUT I wanted to show the most conservative approach. I hope this helps put things in to perspective.
