2014 Chevy Silverado No Start 1 click my easy fix

I didn’t know why my truck wouldn’t start. I did notice the last few starts it kind of had a hard time. I thought it was my battery. I googled it and found your video. I did exactly what your video showed to do. It’s started on the 2nd key turn. Thank you very much for your video.

I just fixed my truck thank you so much I didn’t run a new wire just took the original off cleaned up the metal with a multi tool to make it shiny and one attempt nothing two attempts it seems to have awoke then third it started up mines the 2017 lt 1500 ground was right behind the passenger front tire get on your back and look up haha thanks again saved me some serious doe

2016 Silverado, service 4x4 message came on last week then no crank no start two days ago. Jump started and went to parts store to get 6 month old battery checked, they said battery is good but alternator is bad. Today no crank no start so I could not check voltage at battery after starting to verify alternator problem. Tried jumper cable from battery ground to frame and it started right up and I removed cable and it started again. You are the man! I have 14.3ish volts on battery so I am guessing auto parts store diagnosis was wrong about my alternator. Still have 4x4 message and truck will not go into 4WD. At least it starts. Going to run a new battery ground cable and figure out 4x4 issue now. Thanks again!

Still possible bad starter and the extra ground helped it at the moment? and or it could be the bad ground also even the 4 x 4 issue? If you're in a salt state like PA here they definitely get rusty and eventually make bad connection causing these issues and there are also few other grounds outside of the one I show here that also can cause other issues when they corrode up. But definitely won't hurt adding new one or least clean up the spot it connects to on frame. Like the truck here didn't need the new ground but rather cleaned up but we added the new one just for piece of mind and so for sure it didn't happen again any time soon. glad I did share trick with jumper cables for adding battery ground to body grounds or frame or even engine block grounds can helps in a pinch, I discovered this long ago when I had another car with bad ground to block causing the starter not too ground and this was on a 71 Marquis big old boat

@@RANS87IROCZ Thanks. I tried to start the truck today and nothing again and jumper cable to ground would not work again. I cleaned frame ground on both sides of the truck and nothing. Going to bypass (jumper wire) starter relay to see if starter is working and clean ground to block from battery negative. I'm going to win eventually.

I had my mechanic look at my 2014. Had Chevy look at it and run expensive diagnostics for nothing. They blamed my LED lights I have had for far more years than the no start issue. Just got this cable and gonna give it a go

My 1999 SILVERADO 2500HD just stopped starting and now all its doing is turn key and get one click yet no start. I did check my battery and its full. So assuming its the 3:51 3:51 starter i ordered one but its not arriving until Wednesday today is Monday and I gotta get to work tomorrow (tues)..... Now I need to get her started So I'm going to try your backup plan with a jumper cable clipped on my battery ground connector (driverside) and then clipped down on the passenger side of the frame somewhere near the starter? @@digitalcomplexity yes chance it's a bad ground connection, doesn't hurt to try checking with cables go from negative of battery anywhere on passenger side frame long as it can get a clean bite, rust or paint might mess up good connection. But you should be able to locate a ground there though, but being 1999? Prob the starter unless something other ignition? I can't remember any of that year model having these issues from 08 and up? But possible and wishing you luck

So, a 47" ground cable is now $22! but I added that in today and after that it started on the first try. So we'll see what it does when it gets hot? That's usually when it would "click" 5-6-7-8-9 times! before starting... it didn't look that corroded down there but the bolt had a big black spot and there was a little bit of white stuff, so I took some emory cloth and scraped everything up and added that ground cable and run it up to the battery and bing bang boom we'll call that fixed! It did not solve my problem I ended up with a starter. New battery (not needed) added the ground, (can't hurt?) But ultimately, a $270 starter was the remedy. Peace...out

Is that the fuel pump ground that you used to tie into or a negative ground to frame? I have a 2012 sierra with the 5.3 Ls. I consider what you did as an upgrade not just a fix. I want to do the same to my truck because they are notorious for bad grounds. Also my current sensor is not open enough to slide the wire in. I was thinking about using the ground under the driver's door on mine to piggy back off of. Do you have any advice?

@@johnwilson8693 No wasn't fuel pump ground but the original battery to frame which would most likely would effect the fuel pump ground assuming it grounds the fuel pump somewhere off rear of trucks frame somewhere off it's main wire harness, but I cleaned it up originally and all was good and well my boss said run the extra ground for extra in case it was the old wire? Pretty positive it just lost connection there from getting corroded over time, but we ran new wire for extra and yeah I left old one there too, I feel? More the grounds the better 😂 I once saw a car that lost main ground to engine block in past and when they turned key it ultimately had only a battery to body ground off post only and it was smoking hot under crank and very slow turnover. Ultimately this bad ground here was causing an issue in the starting system over it

@@johnwilson8693 it was a fix. Truck was towed in DOA, it only would single click noise at key turn, 1 click and nothing. We assumed battery voltage was too low? But nope healthy solid battery so we checked starter next and did a jump test on truck and it cranked away, so we knew it was good? That led us to then start checking grounds, But I always substituted cables to check grounds running the cable off negative of battery to where they went on frame or body to basically quick check. When I ran the jumper cable off negative too passenger side frame it immediately started for us there, I then cleaned the frame ground on passenger side up and boom bingo then boss had me run new extra in case, but I live in PA, like other northern salt states. Frames get rusty and sometimes an important ground rots out.

Yeah the ground from the battery to that side of the frame ultimately corrodes and doesn't ground properly causing this issue, tell people in a pinch to test set of jumper cables from the ground post on battery and connect other end to frame there to see, sometimes you also gotta clean that spot up too for good connection

@RANS87IROCZ - thanks for the video. I’ve got a 2015 Sierra with a similar problem. When I turn the key it’s just a “click”, but the difference is I’m not losing power. Everything stays lit, just no cranking of the starter. Would you think that might still be a ground issue or more likely the starter/solenoid?

Good chance this is it? At worst though the starter? Usually though the lights will dim or cut out with a bad connection at terminal or the grounds? Worth a shot if you have jumper cables around? Put the one end on the ground post on battery then put other end on frame, maybe grind the metal up to get a clean spot too for it, then try to start again? If it starts off this then it is the ground

@@Uchiha-956 wont hurt, also? Locate the starter underneath and hit it with hammer as someone turns key? Could be bad starter but grounds do go bad on these in time or lose connection especially in northern states where they salt the roads

@@pitoseja7271 going to watch, all you did was replace battery? And now no start? Has to be connection at battery? Or the new battery from sitting had dropped below 12.6 volts? Possibly holding 11.6 or less and that might be low enough for it too not turn over? Try jumping it afterwards?

@@RANS87IROCZUnfortunately no my battery was good but I checked all the grounds,fuses and relays and it ended up being my starter I removed it and got it tested at AutoZone and they told me it was no bueno. I’m also on e85 and with the cold weather mainly it doesn’t help starters but the new starter did the trick for me. Thank you for the information

That's because the OEM ground doesn't last long and definitely in salt weather states and eventually they make bad connection resulting in a no start, I'm not getting that many clicks on a Chevy truck video but sure a few thousand but heck only telling folks to check this ground 1st before paying few hundred for a starter and having same issue afterwards? It truly was reason why the truck stopped starting properly

I'm having an issue my truck wouldn't start I would have to jump my battery or charge my battery so I figure I needed a new battery I just put a brand new battery in and now it just clicks once I went down and I can feel it click on the solenoid for the starter so I figured the starter was bad I took the starter out I put it on the bench I tested it out with the battery and it starts up just fine maybe the ground I did test the battery is fully charged I also hooked up a secondary battery as a jump starter and it still just one click

Yes check that ground connection I show, I worked for a shop and we did all of the above prior, checked battery was solid, tested starter on truck by adding power to the ignition feed and it cranked, we was suspecting ignition after that but? We had 12 plus also on key turn so, we then started checking grounds and magically the ground from battery negative to frame was not making good connection and a simple clean up fixed it, but we also added whole new wire to same spot? Just incase for extra measure and ultimately this solved this customers issue

Taking a set of jumper cables and connect to the negative side off battery then take other end and clean a spot on the frame and then clamp the other end to that clean spot and give it a try, norm if its a bad ground from battery to body this trick will serve as a temporary body to battery ground

Or from negative of battery right to anywhere on engine block you can get the other end to clamp on, like any large steel bracket, or bolts on the block you can possibly clamp the cable too

I have the same problem on my 2014 5.3L. I replaced the battery ground wire harness as indicated by the dealership. But after a 2hr drive today. It did the same thing. Why would an additional ground make much difference from replacing the OEM harness? The other dealership says starter. 😂

I tried this today. Same deal everything on turn key click dash goes off and no start. Tried the jumper cable tip started second key turn. After work added a 4g ground cable like he did I know it sounds weird grounding a ground but it’s running right now…. Idk lol

The ground corrodes at the end where it meets the frame losing solid connection, sometimes just taking it off and cleaning fixes the issue and even here in video for truck it might of? But my boss then said replace the entire ground regardless. We knew it wasn't bad starter in this trucks situation because we tested that prior to just throwing the wire at it 😂 I had one critic come and comment saying what in the world am I doing here? Well I'm showing folks a trick many don't know? Using jumper cables in an emergency to test a battery too body ground point and yep it will work in an emergency if you have a bad ground

I have a 2014 Silverado that does the same thing. I had all the cables changed, the problem went away for several months. Now the same problem pops up periodically. If I just let it set for 5-10 minutes, it starts.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado V6 my son drove the truck after the flash engine light was flashing for two days and then the truck shut off and he had it towed. I went and checked the truck out and ran a scan on the truck showed P305 and P 300. I found cylinder one and cylinder three coil packs bad so I changed all the plugs and the wires also they were fouled and very dirty and looked to be original. I checked to make sure that I was getting spark and I was. I tried to start the truck and it would just turn over with no start. I checked the mass airflow sensor and sprayed it out with mass airflow sensor cleaner. I also change the camshaft positioning sensor. Still no start. Any ideas I tried starter fluid still no start

Issue is in title of vid, no start and 1 click? It wouldn't start at all but when key was turned to start it let out a single click sound every time and lost communication in the dash as well But well how most of my vids go? I don't have camera person or fancy channel I just share what I can when I can and when I find the reason of the issue? And it appears this ground is common to end up with bad connection there on these models so I'm only telling folks to check this 1st if this happens to them? Sure it could be bad starter in some cases or other? heck other's in comments are thankful cause it did happen to them as well

@@RANS87IROCZ Great video and fix. A corroded ground that causes hard starting cause starter overheat and damage other ignition components. After this fix i would coat it with Fluid Film and all grounds. Easy to find @ Walmart . Keep Trucking !
