Siren tones aren’t supposed to sound pretty. They are supposed to gain attention. Much like your imitation power call sirens, listening to a unique siren tone coming down the road when you’d typically expect the generic wail, yelp and priority gains better attention. This is why odd sounds like the power call is still a favorite and effective among fire departments. 👍

We bought an ex special investigations F-150 Lariat and it still had the strobes in the turns signals and the headlight housings along with the red and blue light controllers. Even the antennae bases were still there. Its been a good truck for us.

It's a tad hard to find but when you get a govt vehicle that's been treated well you are getting the best vehicle for the cheapest price! Those specialty units are only used sparingly so they aren't beat on like a regular patrol vehicle. Some might have high idle hours but the rest of the vehicle is usually in great shape. I have no doubt it's been treating you well. Sounds like a great find!

Thanks! The tones programmed are rip offs of federal signal tones like the digital hi-low. It was originally used in the federal signal unitrol series sirens. A decent alternative but it doesn't replace the original. Federal signal knows how to make a good siren 🚨

The Howler is an excellent addition. ALL Police, fire, EMS, etc should have them IMO. The low frequency pierces so much better than the high frequency. The first time I heard on years ago was in Ohio traveling on I70 - I heard the low frequency of the Howler LONG before I saw the responding unit or heard the high frequency siren, and he was a good way off.

The fact that it's two opposite sides of the frequency spectrum is what I find the most interesting about the two devices paired together. Weird sounds and lights may not look. Or sound "cool" but it's the weird stuff that gets the attention. Code 3 makes some weird siren tones but that stuff really catches peoples attention. Which is why we went with some alt-tones and the rip off unitrol tones. 👍

Great video! Do you know if current gen F150's on their own have enough battery power to support (only) this controller with a full siren and lighting setup? Or what do you do to add the neessary power supply if not? Thank you!

Yes! The F150s alternator can handle the controller lighting setup pictured here no problem. The only issue we had was the 1200watt amp for the one CB radio in the console with the gold mic. Had to put in an XS Power battery which audio shops use to handle that type of wattage on their sound systems. But if it wasn't for that the truck would run just fine. 👍

Question...I programmed my HHS4200 with the patterns and siren tones, but now the Siren activates when brake is pressed. How do I fix that? It worked fine before inputting the Whelen Command software I setup

@@MrCGrammer the only things I can think of is as follows. 1. If you have an input wire on the brake to trigger a function when the brake is pressed you need to reprogram your software. 2. You have a bad ground somewhere. Check all of your connections including main harness. You may have to take big gauge wire and make ground straps the more things connected to ground like the body, trunk lid, chassis, good, interior metal etc. The better. But start with your devices. 3. The brake system is causing some type of electric interference with the system.

Unlike feniex the amplifier is external. It’s not inside the howler speaker. It’s not even inside the cencom. It has a separate external amplifier that has to get tied to the cencom light siren controller. 👍

There are lots of distributors in Cali and around the country that sells their stuff. Sirennet.com in Oregon would be your closest bet. I would go with their newest system when core. But without a siren permit the only tones you can legally run are the air horn tones which whelen also sells. You can pair that to a programmable light controller like a feniex 4200 DL and get sort of the same set up. If you want the complete functionality to be able to change patterns and colors on the fly then you'd might as well just get a whelen core system. CHP has been running core now with great success. 👍

I'm not sure what the light laws in CA are governing emergency lights in the vehicle yet alone on the vehicle if you put lights on a pickup rather than a police style vehicle and they are amber cops shouldn't bother you and the air horn is fine to because it's a horn and not a siren tone.

This is called the Whelen Cencom Carbide system. They have a newer cheaper one called the Whelen Core system that produces the same tones and has added light control features and vehicle control features. 💪

Yes it is! Lol they basically copied from them. It's sort of like soundoff intersectors... Once soundoff made it, all the other companies were like "ooooooo right that down! Right that down!" And now everyone has their own version of a under mirror hockey puck style light for the side view mirrors.

They are both pretty much equally as loud. The difference is where you mount it. Some vehicle specific brackets place the rumbler or howler behind the front bumper where there is no room for the sound to escape. They do this with siren speakers as well which is why some departments mount their speakers to the push bar.

The only part that is hard is trying to find a place to mount the gigantic speaker. Usually under the inside of the frame in the engine bay or at the rear is like the only spots if they don't create a special vehicle specific bracket for it.

A set up like this would run around 15k in parts and labor depending on what else the customer would want on it because its name brand. The cost would be half if it was “off brand” like feniex and ram mounts. Brands like these are eager to prove themselves to be put in the “name brand” category and will offer quality products at a way lower price. This is one reason why we are a dealer for feniex. Prices for upfitting are way too expensive and safety out on the road should be an accessible option to ALL individuals who work from the roadway. Not just govt. as for what’s needed, a basic knowledge of interior parts/ electrical knowledge and all the tools you would find in a normal mechanics garage. I will say plastic trim pulling kits are a must when trying to pull stubborn plastic pieces without breaking them. 👍

@@thefoundationsblenderplace6778 the feniex hammer is the only self contained low frequency siren/speaker that can run by itself. Typical low frequency sirens are made to only listen for and then mimic the tones from an actual siren but the feniex hammer can run its own tones by itself.

@@thefoundationsblenderplace6778 a console? Not really. There would be a lot of custom metal fab that would need to be done in terms of welding and using a metal brake to bend some custom brackets. FHP has a bunch of mustangs and they don’t even bother putting consoles in. They just use handled controllers or remote faceplate controllers like this 21-slide controller that has a short backing to it and mount a bail bracket to the headliner or the console area. But mostly handheld siren controllers are the way to go if mounting in a smaller vehicle. Light brackets have ti be custom fab as well. The only vehicles that have “easy” bolt on parts made for them are police package vehicles and their retail counter parts.

@@Dinosaurs33245 it is different by state how to obtain the permit for amber. But most police departments don't care if it's amber. As long as it's not lights on a police style vehicle. If you have a pick up truck or any vehicle the police do not use you can put as many amber lights as you want on it. But every state is different.

Hey to each their own. Most of our state is whelen so that's what we installed for this demo. I personally think the higher pitch of the alternate wail grabs more attention especially since it's a wail tone no one uses around our area so it stands out. Federal signal is the best. It has the most classic tones imo.

This popped up in my feed since I just watched a Half As Interesting that was claiming European sirens were “better” than US sirens. Bro, they are so wrong. One of their claims was that their Euro sirens were lower in tone and travel farther, which the howl you were showing would seem to totally solve that. The European sirens just sound like a cringy out of tune clown horn.

The euros need some updating. The uk has finally gone with whelen and it’s working to much success. We’ll be making a video soon explaining why there are so many different siren tones and per California training standards as to what tone works best at what distance and why. ✌️

Not "looking cool" I can be a whacker all day but safety for first responders is more important. Anything weird and out of the ordinary grabs people's attention better. 👍
