The trucks are shipped from the factory with extra pressure in the tires to prevent flat spots. They might have not adjusted to correct tire pressure before giving it to you, because based on my experience the ride in this vehicle is quite impressive.

Why in the hell would the host or anyone for that matter, use a bike rack to carry your bicycle? Why not use the dang truck bed?

I'll give you an example; I own a Tacoma and have a Thule hitch mount bike rack that allows me to carry my 2 bikes AND fill the bed with other stuff.

GMC lists max conventional trailering for the 4X4 Crew Cab with the 5.3-liter V8, 5' 8" box and 3.23 rear axle at 6,600 pounds. 3.42 axle = 9,600 pounds 3.73 axle = 11,200 pounds

Excellent review as always Steve! Maybe you can answer this...I do a lot of night driving and would appreciate and expect HID headlights on a 50k truck. The technology (in cars at least) is now almost 15 years old. Some cars are done with HID and going to LED. Why are so many premium vehicles still using halogen headlights?

Steve, overall, great review. Thanks for including the air-conditioned seats and the fan exhaust segment. I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding the tailgate and cargo box. At 4:15, you discuss the differences between the GM/ Chevy and Ford tailgate/ cargo entry. "There's no cutting edge cleverness here, unless you consider the new bumper corner step which aren't quite as handy as Ford's tailgate step." The Ford tailgate feature is a novelty item that looks cute, but in reality, will not last the test of time. Have you seen what the bulges do to building materials such as sheet rock, when it is laid flat in the bed? The results are not pretty to say the least. There are 6 steps involved in opening the Ford tailgate, which only has a 350lb weight limit (something that they don't mention very often). Keep that in mind for construction workers carrying heavy tools in and out, and with the 36,000 mile warranty, that truck owner is going to think twice about using the tailgate ladder novelty. Compared with GM's rear corner step, it is a 2-step process to enter and exit the truck, with no moving parts. Your truck as tested, had the available GM spray-on bed-liner, upper tie downs and also comes with available LED track lighting. The latter 2 options while not "cutting edge cleverness" as you would put it, are highly functional and something that is not available with Ford, Dodge or Toyota. At 4:18, you show your children in the back seat, with 1 seat up. I'm surprised that GM didn't send you the available storage tub for underneath the seats. It's an excellent dealer installed option using a T-4 head for securing the fasteners, and contours with the seats. Cargo netting makes it convert from 1 storage tub to 3, and is a great spot to store items like tie-down straps, bike helmets, backpacks, etc. And one last feature, my favorite on the truck, and the least technologically advanced, is the hanging file folder section in the center console. Excellent place for vehicle maintenance records, business clients, etc.

I need help deciding. I drive daily 30+ miles and I do sometimes haul an ATV or a dirt bike, I was deciding a Canyon but the gas mileage is no different from the sierra... although it's easier to park and stuff I still have friends that are 200+ lbs I would doubt we would fit comfortably in the canyon(we go out at least twice a month or so)

This was the first video I've seen of yours and I must say good review. I like the looks of both GM trucks but I favor the bow tie with the z-71 grille. I must agree with plutonium9 about the absence of HID's on a 50K truck, for that amount of $ they need to be included. Also GM's always had lower step-in heights so I see no need for those obtrusive assist steps. They no doubt get dinged up if 1 were to go off-road. gm needs to consider those power steps that tuck away...especially for 50K.

I would leave it stock and bolt up the steelies from the base model for the sleeper effect. Then get the optional split-6-spoke 22" wheels for everyday use due to the thinner sidewall for better rigidity.

To be honest, you don't see them much anymore unless it's on a lower end trim. The pickup segment is the last to adopt HID as it trickles down from luxury cars. LED is next and LED foglights and taillights are here, too.

Hey Steve, question for you, Sierra 1500 or Canyon for an every day driver with 30+ miles one way on the highway? I'm looking for a truck that I can put a plow on and not have to worry about getting stuck.

What are talking about, the rams don't have airbags standard on the rear coils. Some people add them on later, and I've never heard of them giving anyone grief. If they did blow, it's almost certainly because someone went way over the max payload.

No one is saying the other trucks suck because the ride isn't as good. Besides in the half ton segment, coil springs in the rear are more than enough for what the majority of half ton owners use them for. There's still leaf springs on the HD rams. But yeah, the ride quality should matter in trucks, because if they can slap on a $50k price tag, it better be top notch you know?

what would be the best truck ever would be if GMC made a new Canyon with very similar interior/exterior styling and the same v6 and v8s with cylinder deactivation thats in the sierra. Lots of people, myself included, don't really want the giant 1/2 ton truck with it's poor fuel economy and parking difficulties that goes with it 80% of the time in just day to day living, but love the power and its capability 20% when i'm towing my boat or travel trailer. that'd be awesome!

Basically, I love the truck, but for >$50k cost, I'm disappointed that for what we would need it to be able to do - tow a 7K lb travel trailer, it would not do the trick. I'm assuming more money to get the max tow capabilities and higher fuel cost due to higher rear gear ratio?

Jim -- I think some full-sized half-ton trucks have recently become car-like in the suspension and handling. In fact, Ram uses coil spring rear suspension in their trucks (the only drawback? -- less payload capacity in the bed of the truck.) Nothing wrong with that. And I'm also in your camp as well, I want my truck to feel well... like a truck.

6,600 towing on one of the popular build spec trucks (crew cab, short box, 4x4, 5.3, and some crappy rear gearing ratio)? Is GM joking with this stuff, I think some of the mid sized trucks have a higher tow capacity than 6,600.

just one thing to say.. 2004 nissan titan has a little bit more torque than this new 5.3 ecotec...the sad thing about it is that the nissan is like a 10 year old truck!!! im a chevy fan and a nissan fan but the 5.3 ecotec should have put out atleast 400 pounds of torque. Anybody agree? Or check out the 5.7 on the tundra which came out when? 2007? right? well even that engine makes more power then this new 5.3 ecotec. But still even with that issue im sure that 5.3 is still a very good engine.

The rear seats are a danger to children in the rear seats. With no rear air conditioner, hot air is blown directly onto kids in car seats from the cooled front seats. GM needs to recall this truck and fix this issue before a kid or baby gets overheated from the hot air blowing out of the front seat vents. A baby in a car seat could be in real danger if the front passenger turns on the cooled front seats!

I honestly don't understand why they have kept gmc on so long, I see nothing that's more "luxurious" lmao about it, over a chevrolet. There is no difference between a tahoe ltz and a yukon denali, yet people are dumb enough to pay $10k more, just so they can appear to be a "somebody". Same vehicles, with different headlights and grille whoop dee doo, sure impresses the shit out of me.

I think GMC has a good reputation. It's the truck if you don't want your truck with the Chevy Bow Tie. The model shown here actually undercuts pricewise their competition (Ram 1500 Laramie and Ford F-150 Platinum) by $4000. At the same time, I can understand your rationale.

Dylan, I thought the same way when I compared the Escalade, Yukon Denali and Tahoe together. In 2011 the only difference between the Escalade and the Denali was a more supple leather and I think 5 hp. But when we compared the Denali to the Tahoe it was like night and day as far as quality. The dealer let us keep the Tahoe and we found trim coming loose, not good! We settled on the Yukon Denali and got a great end of the year price. I just couldn't see paying that much more for fluff and chrome for the Escalade. I'm sold on GMC.
