A DSG gearbox is always going to be faster acceleration vs a manual with equal power for 2 reasons. Firstly, a DSG up-shifts in 0.08 sec, compared to whatever you can do manually (depends how good you are). 0.75 sec normally if You're good, 0.25 if You're very good. Secondly, a DSG will keep the turbo spinning between shifts by not dropping the revs - thus giving more immediate power/torque after shifting up. It's an almost constant power delivery.

@mastac57587 жыл бұрын
bananajoe123 No. The slower car is dsg as u can see
@sila.yolcusu7 жыл бұрын
Why not fair? The old 320Nm engine with DSG has a short gear ratio like the GTD. This was changed with the 340Nm engine. The 320Nm engine with manual gearbox and the 340Nm with DSG have a very long gear ratio! THAT'S would not be fair!

@d4main15 жыл бұрын
Very good comparison. The 2.0tdi had higher rev start so it accomodated from the extra fuel it had and the extra fuel helped it gain more traction. The GTD would of been faster if it had more fuel for traction in my opinion as it has enough torque to accelerate with the given extra weight. Dsg or no dsg the gear changes were pretty much dead on for both give or take as both have different band width for power on peak points. Lovely video and very informative.

The choice between these 2 cars also depends on what country are you in. For instance, in Romania (my country), the price difference between the two is waaaayy bigger than 2500 euro. While 2.0 TDI Highline costs some 23.000 euro, the GTD starts from 27.000. The 2.0 TDI is much more preferable and, if you want, you can tune it. However, the 2.0 TDI in this video is kinda slow at 200km/h. I drive a Focus 2015 Wagon 2.0 TDCi 150Hp manual and it is faster (and it shouldn't be because some extra 150kg!). The automatic transmission dsg is nice when u accelerate to 180km/h. Beyond that speed the manual shifting is better. Cause u can kick the 5th gear till 200km/h untill the bordcomputer signals "5->6". So its faster beyond 180km/h. I drive my golf 7 2.0 tdi manual 6gear transmission 240km/h cause a lower gear is always stronger than a higher gear. The 6th and 7th gear are way to short. The power is in 5th gear, u can beat a c270, bmw 320, 525 easyly till 220km/h. In 6th gear it accelaretes like a golf 1.2 ^^
@yogioto10 жыл бұрын
Nonsense! The GTD dsg comes with 6 gears only! After 3.200 rpm there is a decrease of power so it would be smart to shift to the next (higher) gear. The dsg goes all the way to 4.000 though, even with kickdown so it would be smart to use that little pedal on your steering wheel to manually shift. Sorry man, you have no idea what you are talking about!
@ChristianRuf9110 жыл бұрын
In a diesel it is stupid to rev until the limiter kicks in because your power is falling astonishingly fast after about 4000rpm. Diesels should be hold between 2500 and 4000 to deliver the best performace.
@simakosk9 жыл бұрын
with the 120d tdi´s arent a match after we passed the 180 kmh, as you sse above the 2.0 tdi goes well till 180 but then it stinks away and cant climb till 200, as the gtd is still climbing fast you knwo why? because the gtd can hold the torque much longer till 4000 rpm´s as the tdi is falling down with acceleration, thats the matter with optimizing through chipping and making the curve last longer

I have the 2.0TDI Audi A3 DSG and when the car was stock (150hp) yes it was good up to 100mph and then it slows down a lot but still pulls until 130ish mph, Now with stage 1 pushing 191hp and 417nm It easily sees 130mph without a problem. If I was to compare the acceleration stock vs stage , stage 1 from 100-130 feels like 80-110 on stock engine.

Acutally, GTD engine (CUNA) is different: "The EA288 family of engines follow suit with most of VW's earlier engines with the lower power units sharing many components with the highest output 184 / 190bhp engines. The 110 and 150’s have slightly smaller turbo’s that can be swapped, tuned and the above is possible. @yogioto9 жыл бұрын
fesch198 No, unfortunately you can feel it massively decrease from about 3.100! Anything from 2 to 3k is good (roughly speaking since the power bands differ from gear to gear so sometimes shifting at 2.5 gives you better acceleration in the next gear at a certain speed). To drive any turbo Diesel most efficiently takes quite some getting used to. Kick down shifts you from 6th to 4th gear at 160km/h for example, but being around 3.5krpm you hardly accelerate. If you stop just before the kick down point it will only shift you to 5th giving you a nice boost from 2.9 to 3.2 and then already you would have to move your foot up to let it shift back to 6th and actually accelerate faster from around 190 to 240. Sounds completely illogical and messed up, but again can be explained by the power bands and doesn't bother at all after a short while ;)
@yogioto9 жыл бұрын
fesch198 (only speaking of a GTD from my own experience. Driving that automatic shift efficiently sometimes makes you feel like playing an instrument since it takes quite some sensitivity)
