I just bought my 48 on Sunday after many good reviews such as this. Now I have to learn how to ride it - it's my first bike! Thanks!

You're going to love it brother, trust me. It was my first bike after a long 15 year layoff of riding and after a few mods I dig it. You will tons of compliments out on the road so prepare yourself. Enjoy man-

Darryl McKillop Congrats, I see you live on the rock. Perfect riding weather. If you end up doing pipes, air cleaner, and race tuner (aka Harley Tax) that 48 will go from 60hp to 80hp so keep that in mind if you want to spice up that engine so it can breathe.

Parker Fairbanks Oh that's good to know! Funny enough, I haven't thought about performance mods yet. I'm more focused on trying to stay on the bike and not hit anything. haha. I want some V&H slip ons in black and black the remaining parts out, then maybe think about the performance side of things. Do you buy anything locally or all online?

Had my 48 for a year now, never missed a beat and with a set of pipes, filter and stage one tune, it's a hoot plus does keep your licence in tact although it's definitely not slow off the line to 100.... just as you said, short blasts are where it works best. Love it \m/

If I could, I would buy a 2014 '48 and keep it for 40-50 years before I sold it. I collect classic minibikes and go karts, and I would love to buy a brand new bike and keep it for all that time. Imagine how classy the bike will be in 2064 when we are all riding on hovercrafts!

I bought 48 in February and I love it. I'm a new rider but this bike still surprises me. I tighten the suspension and it now handles great. I get about 68 to 89 miles per tank depending on how hard I ride. I'd say it's a great starter bike which you can beef up with some pipes and air intake, should bump it up a good 20 noticeable horsepower. Not the best on the highway but is a champ around town.
@peru76009 жыл бұрын
+Carl “one eye” Grimes I just put on BUB exhaust and my 48 is so much faster now. the exhaust system actually weights less then the one muffler from the stock exhaust. Also, it's extremely loud now haha. February will mark a year of owning the 48 and I'd have to say it's a great purchase and could recommend it for anyone wanting to ride a motorcycle.
@peru76009 жыл бұрын
+Carl “one eye” Grimes I only changed the pipes. I was thinking of adding intake and power commander soon, waiting till after inspection since at this point no codes have come up. My friend who rides super sports thinks the bike is in the 70's hp. I'd say for a beginner (like me) to ride a year stock then add exhaust, it's just what the bike needed to make it a bike you could keep for life. still debating on changing the gas tank lol. $4 fill ups are nice but 100 mile range is annoying especially when you ride in a group.

Why is everyone saying Jon looks enormous. I completely disagree. I'm 6'2 and definitely going to get one! The reality is that the bike tries to capture that old school low slung/slammed look. If you look at any bike from the 'those days' and even Frodo would look like giant.

First Last I put the Progressive monotubes in the front and a pair of 13" Progressive 970's on the rear. Also a Mustang Wide Touring Vintage Solo seat & pillion, a 21" H-D detachable sissy bar and a 4.5 gallon fuel tank from J&P Cycles. Harley likes to sell you the low slung, stripped down look (which I really do like) but with only 2" of travel the comfort isn't there. So it really depends on what kind of riding you want to do. Short local jaunts or longer rides? The seat will make a huge difference so don't cut corners. I used the stock seat for 17k miles and it started causing numbness (and this was long after I changed out the suspension). With the Mustang seat, I ride 4 hours and it feels like I went around the block (keep in mind the suspension does add to the comfort but the seat will probably make the biggest difference in comfort). As far as rear suspension goes, I wanted something highly adjustable and the 970's do that very well. There are other (less expensive) options and based on reviews they work quite well so don't just pass them by. Do your research and figure out how you want to ride. I still have all the stock parts. All I need is a few hours and I can change the bike to suit my needs. Hope this helps.

Jon, I've just ordered the very same goggles you are wearing on this video, I wouldn't know they existed if I hadn't watched this. And I'm importing them from England(to Brazil , freight from the UK is cheaper than from the US). My new HD 48 will be delivered this month and this review helped me to pull the trigger. I keep watching this everyday dreaming of it, can't wait!
@JonQuirkUK10 жыл бұрын
Delighted to hear it! The Barstow is a great goggle from 100% and you also get a clear screen within the pack if you don't want to ride with tints. As for the 48, I'm absolutely made up - as will the team be - to hear our reviews have been able to help inform your decision. You're going to have loads of fun on the 48 - it has a great stance and produces a wonderful noise, just keep an eye on those fuel levels! And of course, please send over some pics when it's delivered, we'd love to see it. Ride safe, Jon

Hi Pinball Ball, How is the 48? We'd love to hear from you now you've had it a while.
@pinballball10 жыл бұрын
Auto Trader It has been 6 months and I really like this bike for the "occasional blasts", like Jon said in the video. Everybody notice this bike, you feel like riding a Ferrari, attracting viewers attention everywhere, and everybody thinks your are the coolest. Everybody but you, lol, cause the Harley engine can get really, I mean really HOT. I live in Brazil, so I must avoid getting stuck in slow traffic in warmer seasons, thats my only complaint, the rest is just like this perfect review tells. And the HOT engine "can be cool" if you live in places where the weather is mostly cold, because you don't have to worry about freezing, since you won't freeze riding the 48.The little tank doesn't really matter if you buy this bike to use it for its original purpose: urban ride, short countryside rides and boulevard cruising or bar hopping. Its really a smooth ride, I couldn't imagine since its my first Harley and everybody kept saying Harley rides are brutal. The ABS brakes are incredibly soft, but the shift pedal is not, thats the thing that reminds me I'm in a Harley. That and the noise of course, I changed my pipes and you can check it in my channel, but you must wear earphone and turn the volume all the way up the get closer to the real noise. Its bad ass, but classy and traditional at the same time, girls get intrigued and curious.

Bought my 48 two weeks ago, and have put about 350 miles on it. This review is pretty much dead on. The only complaint I have about it (other than tiny gas tank) is the front shocks. They are absolutely punishing on rough roads. One correction to this review: ABS is NOT standard on all 48's. I paid $800 extra for it. I also got the keyless security option, which is really nice.
@mikealexander18597 жыл бұрын
Range is not 60 miles. Many reviewers are missing this. The fuel light comes on with 1.2 gal remaining in tank according to owners manual. That puts you at 100 milesish. I am going to test mine with a follow car soon. I will let you know.

I emailed long in advance, went to my local Harley dealer, and they could not provide a Forty-Eight for me to try. This was because they had one standing in the window, which was sold. Alright. Happens. I got to ride an XL1200 Sportster that by most accounts is the same bike. Except some of those that count. I gotta give it this, I looked in my reflection as I was passing windows, and I looked great on it. The nice laid back seating of a harley is also very comfortable.. But as the man says in the video, it vibrates like crazy. And my friend who tried an Iron 883 could not keep a conversation at red lights because he was being shaken to death by a brand new 2017 motorcycle. That is not alright to me. It wouldn't have been alright even on a Ural, but even less so on the iconic Harley. The big, in your face difference between an XL1200, Iron 883 and the forty eight is the footrests. They are not in a forward position, and sitting straight up and down on a harley is like drinking a beer in a pub while squatting: absolutely ridiculous, and uncomfortable. I didn't know where to put my feet on stops as the footrests were in the way of the natural position for standing a leg down.. I was dissapointed. We were dissapointed. When I came back to my 25 year old, somewhat rusty, outdated lawnmower of a Kawasaki EX500, I felt way better. And that is not the way it is supposed to be.

Thart bike is surprisingly faster then people think. As for groung clearance...just keep grindind the peds on the asphalt till the exhaust or something else touches. It will cost quite a bit on the boots though. I got up to 135 kms out of the tank once, just needs some organizing when you ride... Suspension from 2016 are much better. Torque delivery makes you want to twist the throttle but becomes very very sketchy on wet roads: instant torque and poor tires. Braking becomes an issue as well when in a emergency or riding hard: easy to lock up. It is a great bike!

Last week I was driving the Indian Scout. Looks fantastic, building quality is great. The suspension was to hard. Usually you expect a soft suspension because the Indian looks like a cruiser. The Harley Davidson looks amazing but there isn't enough power. I am interested in your opinion.

Can you suggest for me what harley should I get, I am 5,5. I am leaning on iron 883, but looking at low riders too.
@AutoTraderTV7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lester! Our bike correspondent Phil West has your answer... The smallest, most manageable Harleys are the 883 Sportsters, particularly the Hugger (now discontinued), which was specifically made for women/shorter people and has an ultra-low seat height. This has now been replaced by the 883 Superlow. However, most 883s (and 1200) Sportsters are pretty low anyway, including the Iron, 1200 48 and 1200 Custom. In addition, last year, H-D introduced the novice-orientated Street 750, which is really low too, and cheap-ish, although some may argue it's not as authentically Harley. It all ultimately depends on your physical size/strength and how comfortable you feel with them. I’d suggest going to a H-D dealer and ask to sit on all of the above and take it from there. Hope that helps, Thanks!
