There is another bolt you need to take off to level the transmission fluid. It is above the drain plug. if no fluid overflows from the bolt hole, you are supposed to add more fluid to top it off. If fluid overflows out of the bolts hole, that means a little draining is needed due to adding more fluid than needed until it stops flowing.

Let me tell you something! I flushed my 2016 Nissan Altima CVT myself and put in the AMSOIL CVT and that stuff is really Liquid GOLD! I took my '17 Civic (with 50K miles) to the dealer (quick service) to change the oil and rotate the tires. They recommended this service at $250. I said to myself, "Self, can this be done cheaper?" I am no expert but I removed the drain plug, cleaned the plug, and replaced the “crush washer. It must have been factory because the crush washer was quite crushed, Then I filled it up and had the fluid level bolt out to assure the transmission was full. After running through the gears I removed the level bolt again. It took over four quarts to fill and used Honda hcf2 fluid.

You forgot the most important step. You didn't turn your car on and put it in each of the gears for three seconds. Plus there is a check bolt that helps to get the correct amount of fluid after that step.

I changed the CVT fluid in my 2014 Honda Accord EX Sedan at 20K miles of highway driving just to see how it looked. Still clear and brand new looking with hardly any iron dust on the magnet. It used exactly 4 quarts of Honda Fluid. Will change it next at 70K miles (+ 50K miles). Amsoil is probably just as good or better but I don't really want to take a chance!!! ??? Even though they say it is warranty safe what happens if you do have a problem and Honda says you used the wrong fluid??? You are screwed!

Great question, the dealer could only void the warranty if they can prove that the lubricant cause the damage. Meaning you can drive 50,000 miles on an oil change and even if the engine brakes and it's not the lubricant they cannot blame it on the lubricant. The lubricant has to be proven to cause the failure for them to void the warranty. A good example is taking an Audi RS7 in getting a $19.99 dollar oil change and changing the oil at 10000 miles. The turbos are going to get hot and there's going to be an oil burn off and at around 7000 you would burn off about half the motor oil it would get so thick that it would actually wreck the engine. That's usually how most cars get destroyed is by using a low-quality oil with turbochargers

I dunno why all the KZbinrs that do this service raise the car. It can be done with the wheels on the ground easily. Use a standard length ratchet and a shallow-wide pan.

That's why I love Honda. S that's why they're my favorite. I did it on the video to though. A better angle have a little bit more light underneath. Also, the long ratchet makes it easier on your hands without having the tap it with a mallet. So there's a couple different reasons why I usually just Jack them up when it's a low car but if there is no video. I would fly through it and just do it on the ground. Even a Honda Fit, I wouldn't even Jack up. That's why I like him so much

When it comes to fluid you can choose what you feel is the best choice. However, for Honda vehicles it is NOT recommended to use anything other than original HONDA Coolant and CVT/transmission fluid. Where is the proof you recommend 20 k mile CVT fluid change ? Those who make the car and designed the CVT never recommend 20 k miles. Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds or trailer towing results in higher transmission temperatures. This requires transmission fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the transmission fluid changed every 25,000 miles (40,000 km).

Yes With OEM. AMSOIL is about 2 to 4 times better then most OEM. For every 18 degrees hotter a motor oil is it breaks down twice as fast. Basically it's an exponential breakdown and Amsoil for the most part is good for double the severe service of oems. For instance on a Ford pickup truck if Ford recommends changing the ATF at 30,000 miles of Towing you can change it with him zoil Signature Series ATF at 60000.

I have this same exact car, 2014 accord. My transmission died on me at 75k miles. They claimed the cvt fluid was never changed and that's why the transmission died. I now change the fluid on this rebuilt transmission every 30k with OEM fluid. I plan on switching to Amsoil, as OEM is just too pricey for how often I need to replace it. Just my 2¢

If it was my Honda I would do it every 15,000 to 30,000 depending if it's more city or highway driving. Usually the highway driving has much less wear on the transmission because the fluid is being cooled with a lot more airflow under the car and the transmission is doing much less shifting which creates friction and heat and particles in the fluid.

Ive herd to only use honda hcf 2 type fluid ..you say u drained 4 quarts prior and now your doing the other4..and my question is.. if someone was to go to dealership for 190 bucks..they would have to comeback the next day to do another 4 quart drain..for another 190$?..so i do this myself..so would i have to do another drain.. when? You have a lot of great questions here Eric. Show the total fill on the system is about 8.6 quarts so you can actually never get all the fluid out. The reason why I drain and fill it twice is to change as much fluid as possible and that's what I prefer to do. The dealership will only drain and fill it. So what I'm doing is just another level of protection and changing more of the fluid. That's a great question honestly I have no idea but my guess would definitely be at something electronic that's what I would think it would be so the best thing would be to go to a technician that works on your type of car all the time and he'll know exactly what it is and be able to fix it

Bro your supposed to use the Genuine Honda CVT fluid. And you need to pull the transmission fluid level bolt slightly above the drain bolt to ensure the transmission isn’t overfilled with CVT fluid.

My 2017 accord sport manual says capacity is 3.9 quarts. I bought 4 quarts of hcf-2 from Honda. Jacked up car so I could get under it, took out the drain plug, lowered car back down. When done draining jacked up, replaced drain bolt, poured in the 4 quarts. Put jack stands under the front, jacked up rear to what I thought was level, took out the check bolt and it was dripping out. Did that with a little over 30K miles. Will probably swap to the amsoil cvt fluid next drain/fill around 60K and continue with amsoil for life of the car

Recently I just purchased a 2019 Honda Civic LX K20C2 Engine with a CVT Transmission. I put this fluid in my HRV about 25k ago. Before I put it in, my transmission had a shudder when I would accelerate. When it reached speed and settled (RPM drop) it would shudder. After the fluid change that went away. It has performed perfectly since. I have documented it on the HRV forum because Honda owners are so psycho about only using Honda fluids. Wanted to show (or not) that this was perfectly safe and for me it has been. I will continue to change it every 25k miles just because it is so easy and there is no reason to take that chance. It is literally easier than an oil change. Please do some research on how to perform it though. This video misses the fill bolt part which is the only true way to tell if there is enough fluid. My transmission was WAAAAAAY over filled from the factory so putting in what came out isn't very good either. There are a ton on YT that show the correct way. Hope this helps. John S I drove it to completely mix up all the fluid together and then I drained it again. You can never get all the fluid out but the detergents in Amsoil oil and all the additives are so good even if you have 20% of the old fluid you're still going to be fine. I changed the CVT fluid on my 2017 Honda Accord EX at 21,800 miles 2 weeks ago.It came dirty.2nd drain and fill using OEM fluid last week., and 3rd & 4th with Amsoil CVT fluid. My tranny is smooth at shifting now, no more jerkiness. On top of that, it's cheaper than OEM fluid and have longer drain interval in compared to OEM fluid.

I brought my 2017 Honda EXL to a Valvoline 7/24/2020 @ 41k miles and they put a CVT fluid in it called Shift Rite. It hasn't drove the same since. No knocking but it doesn't pick up speed as quickly as it used to. I'd like to have the fluid drained a couple times and refilled with the Honda OEM or Amsoil. Would this be crazy to do considering I'm obviously not due for another change so soon? I'm hoping that a refill and drain 2-3X will remove the old fluid and get my car back running how it used to. No changing the fluid will keep it from getting damaged most likely the wrong fluid was put in or it's not full. I would check it ASAP and make sure it's full and or I wouldn't drive it until you get the new fluid

josh surline Great question Josh ! Total fill on this car is about 8 quarts. When you drain the pan portion you can only drain about 3.7 to 4.1 quarts. When you Jack the car up on the right side you are able to drain more because you are tilting the pan in the transmission. Once you replace the trans fluid it will mix with the old fluid. Basically only half the fluid is new fluid. At this point I recommend driving the car for 10 miles to completely mix the fluid. At this point draining and fill it again is optional. I believe it's good to do it again because you get about 80% of the fluid out. In refresh it with much better quality fluid that has better friction modifiers higher-quality base stock oil and most importantly has antioxidant additives that don't allow it to become a acidic and breakdown. You do not need to do the double flush. I do it for Extra Protection. Drain and fill 1st time. Several days or a week later drain and fill 2nd time , and 3rd time. With 3X drain and fill with Amsoil CVT fluid, you will remove most of OEM fluid it the CVT transmission up to more than 90 percent. It's much safer than flushing the tranny using fluid exchanger at repair shop or dealership. Amsoil CVT fluid is synthetic and it will break down longer than OEM CVT fluid. That means, using Amsoil CVT fluid benefits us from longer drain interval and better protection for the transmission. So I'm about to do a 3 x drain and refill myself. Did you notice a difference in driving. Smoother better acceleration? For a normal drain and fill, you only need 4 quarts (technically 3.9). If you want to get more of the new fluid into the system you would need 8 quarts. -Drain the fluid, 4 quarts will come out, refill with 4 quarts, drive it around so the fluid mixes ( I drove 12-15 miles between drains) and then drain again, 4 quarts will come out, refill with 4 quarts and your done. I did it 3 times to get as much Amsoil cvt fluid into the system. You DO NOT want to put all 8 quarts in at once

That's a good question I would say for the most part if it's one person driving it without passengers yes. If it's a fleet vehicle that has people in it all the time like a Uber or Lyft car or something like that I would say it's a 50/50 split I would say half of them would make it to 300,000 the other half would die somewhere earlier also I think it depends on the model and the driving conditions but if it was my car I would change the fluid every single year if I was driving Uber and Lyft if I was driving it normal I would change it every two years just depends on the driving conditions and the miles you're driving

I did a 3X fluid drain and refill with amsoil cvt fluid at 32K on my 17 accord sport and plan on doing a drain and refill every 40-50K thereafter. I’m sure the cvt would last just as long with the one fluid every 30K but I want the supposedly better product

Yes, you'll be amazed at how much smoother it drives😊 Well you're doing it and well it's up on the lift you might as well just change motor oil to. And you'll be good to go for another 50,000 miles. Honda OEM fluid is very likely dirty at 70k miles. You should have service the CVT fluid at 50k-60k.Change it asap . If you want to remove most of dirty fluid, do a 3X drain and fill with Amsoil CVT fluid and you've be fine for 50k-60k mile fluid change interval.

Most Crush washers are reusable as long as they're flat and not damaged if the Crush Washer is reversed and crushed twice it can compromise the seal but as long as you put it on the way it came off you're good most of the time to reuse never had any problems on any on the channel as far as the level is concerned it is just a drain and fill as long as you put in what it calls for you're fine there is room for expansion in the transmission💯 I give a man a fishing pole & show him how to fish. I run amsoil signature series 0w20 and a parallel bypass system and also did a drain and fill with amsoil cvt and the trans feels better than when I bought the car with 0 miles. Just wanting to find a video to change all the fluid and have proper level check. Thank you for your time.
