@Striker 50 if honda recommends 3.7qts for this particular vehicle. When you drained and measured you got 3.8/3.9 qts that means it was overfilled via honda recommendation so that would be all the more reason to use the check bolt so it didn't remain overfilled right?
@Striker50_
@Striker50_ 2 жыл бұрын
I purchased my car used, so it may be possible that when they certified it they added 3.8-3.9. That said, I would recommend using the check bolt for accuracy 👍 my car was on ramps so I would have had to lift it with 4 jack stands to assure excess drains properly(since it has to be level) and that's a lot of work for the average person doing this service at home. Probably best to just put 3.7 and follow specifications but 0.1 oz won't make a difference really. Hope that helps!

@@Striker50_ Striker, I think your math may be a little off. To make it easier convert to metric. There are 946cc per quart of fluid, this .8 of quart would be appx 757cc whereas .7 of a quart is appx 662cc or a difference of 95 cc or a little over 3 oz NOT 0.1 oz or 3cc.

FYI, using the ramps is fine. You should do this 3x's since only 4 qts. done of approx. 12 total. After draining, just fill with 4 qts. and first loosen the check bolt which you then can access from above after parking on a flat level service. Let the trans. fluid drain to a trickle from the check bolt (from memory within 90 seconds after turning it off), then tighten check bolt. Drive around for about 10 miles, then do 2x's more to get a good fluid change. Your fluid was long overdue, probably didn't hurt it at 120k, would do every 30k thereafter with just 4 qt. changes. Honda doesn't give a sheetz about you and your car, they want it to burn out the trans. Also, engine oil piston rings (change oil/oil filter every 5 thousand miles at the 50% minder), otherwise your engine cyl. piston rings with burn out and you will be adding 1 qt. oil every 4k miles. I have the 2014 4 cyl. model as well.

The maintenance section in the owner's manual states 3.7 quarts. If you notice, I spilled some of the oil, so I had to put a bit more than usual. 3.8 would be a little more than recommended but it's not the end of the world. Nice video. 120K miles before the first CVT transmission fluid change? Here I am panicking that I didn’t change mine at the 25K/30K mark currently sitting at just above 45K. No issues so far (no slipping), but we have a lot of hills where I drive, and the manual says this should be done about every 25K miles for “mountainous areas at low vehicle speeds.” After I do this first one, I would ignore the Maintenance Minder/manual/dealer recommendation here and get this done every ~30K miles.

Absolutely. While not recc to wait this long, better late than never. Because these aren't Automatics, there are less moving parts that can get worn if ignored like I did so it's more forgiving in theory. I since charged the fluid again, and did it by the book so I have peace of mind

Do you plan on doing any videos on black paint restoration? I know there are other KZbin videos out there already, but you articulate very well in your videos. I have not been kind to my car, aesthetically speaking. 😅 I have a few dents and scratches (black 2016 Accord LX), and one big one from a Costco shopping cart (no paint damage), but the hood has been oxidized. I keepp trying to improve the quality of my content and have since improved in many ways. Same. I had it garage kept for a few years, but the last few it was parked under a tree. My personal opinion on paint is to maybe do a clay bar wax to get some of the impurities out. But for best results, someone that does buffing and detailing will probably have it looking pristine compared to what us amateurs can do. I messaged a friend to wax and buff my car ready to fork over $300-$400 but he never got back to me. @@Striker50_ Oh I didn't know MM is a new addition to 2016 and newer models. So you didn't bother to remove the check bolt to verify CVT fluid level? You guesstimate it by the amount of fluid in the drain container? I'm curious because I notice about 4 qt in my drain pan and I put back the entire 4 containers of HCF-2 fluid. However, when I remove the check bolt, only a small amount comes out before it starts dripping a bit more. I've seen other clips where the fluid flows out for several seconds before stopping or dripping. I wonder if I underfill it.

FACTS. I spent over $8 for the check washer. Crazy. EVEN the OEM drain washer is pricy there though I think it's less than $2. So I just bought a 20 pack on Amazon for $8. I believe it's the same for engine oil and trans off the top off my head and same for both Accords that I have on my channel. What I did notice, is that when I used the check bolt this second time, I couldnt get the check bolt washer off which was strange. It almost seemed like it was crazy glued onto the check bolt itself. Perhaps this is the reason why they are confused. Could be a lifetime washer type of setup. So I tried replacing it, but had no luck so just left it on@@shaggydawg5419

@@bens3767 I'm not understanding what you mean to say. The original poster means to say that after a certain point, like if the transmission oil has never been changed in 180,000 miles, it is better to not change it at all. Because by then, the automatic components have worn due to friction from not changing regularly. Not changing it however ironically keeps the transmission functional since the worn debris in the transmission gives the gears grip. If you change and add new fluid, the gears will slip. This applies much more to an automatic transmission over a CVT.
