Bro thank you!!! I did it in 3 hours. Would have been about an hour and a half but had a very hard time with removal and then install took heating the bottom bracket with a torch to make it fit since it was too tight just barely. She runs great and total cost $255.00 vs $450 for the part locally and $150/hr labor. Saved roughly $650-$700 bucks! Thanks man ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Great video. Helped me save a lot of money. One note. 11:10 that bracket was a nightmare to get off. I have a decent allen wrench set, but there is no way I could get the Allen bolt off in the car. So, I removed the alternator with the bracket on like you did. After that, I still could not get that bolt to move. I got creative with a hammer and hammered the bracket to "break the bolt seal" so I could remove it. I swore a lot in the project, but felt great that I was able to change the alternator myself (with your video's help). Thanks again

THANK YOU. I might have lost my mind trying to figure out how to get the alternator out of there. A few suggestions if anyone sees this comment: 1) pour out the overflow bottle into a clean container, and pour it back in afterwards. You WILL knock over the bottle, and it will leak. 2) The power steering reservoir can be maneuvered down and under the upper AC line and up on the other side of it to give plenty of room in the corner. 3) The little sleeve/dowel/bushing for the bottom bolt was stuck. I took a socket that just fits over it - I think I used 3/4" - and a bolt that fit through the socket and bushing with a little length to spare. Bolt through a washer, the drive end of the socket, the bushing, another washer, and a nut; tighten the nut, and the assembly presses the bushing back through to the other side (pressing it inside the socket). A ratcheting wrench is great for this. Just a little movement is all you need.

@DaddyBeanDaddyBean this is an underrated comment. I'm a mechanically inclined guy. I fix most stuff myself. I'd never dream of doing certain things though, like injectors in a deisel for instance. Having the abilty to watch step by step someone else do it, gives me that knowledge to get it done. Saved my self thousands last weekend doing just that. I know how to do alternators, but stumbled upon this video because I'm having an issue getting the alternator out. It's stuck. Wiggles freely up and down, but will not lift out of its spot. Getting late, so going to get back at it tmrw. Literally have 10-20 mins left and of course that thing doesn't want to come out. Could be worse though!

If the alternator has a copious amount of oil on it, check if the spool valve is leaking. If it is leaking and the leak is not fixed, you'll be replacing the alternator again, probably within a year. Usually only the top half of the spool valve and the gaskets need replacement.

Is that pure energy alternator still working? On my 2014 the reman replacement went out after a little over a year. Then the replacement I just got a few days ago tested bad. They are the Ultimate Reman from Oreillys. Sucks these can’t be bench tested as it would help determine if it’s good or not before leaving the store. Now I don’t know if I should go with the NEW alternator or go with a DENSO I’ve read up on people getting. Maybe these life time replacement alternators just want you to keep replacing them instead of working

Lol you’re a stud, that’s all I can say. I’m in the middle of this and racking my brain trying to get it out. Watching you hold the tensioner while maneuvering the alt out 🤦♂️ I need 6 hands. It took me 30 min just to get the alt slid out of the lower bracket that the long bolt goes thru. It was ubertight, pinched, HARD. Finally got it far enough out to where it wouldn’t move anymore, but the sleeve on the alt was showing. Had to slid a flat screwdriver in and pry the alt out, finally. This video is my alternator college right now lol.

@DantheFixitMan Жыл бұрын
@@jotacalvo Yes, that's one of the things that I would've done differently on this job. I did take that upper bracket off when I did the alternator on the Pilot. That made it easier to get it out and of course, easier to put the new one in as well. The sliding sleeve at the bottom can be a bit tricky, but with the right amount of leverage and the right tool, you should be able to move it over as much as you need. The other trick is to wiggle the old alternator back and forth side to side after you have the bolts out but before removing it from the vehicle. That will move the sliding sleeve over just enough to get the new alternator in. Best of luck with it. I hope you're able to get it back together without much trouble. Take care, -Dan

Great video! Thanks for sharing. My alternator was just replaced in Sep 2021 and it went out the other day. Going off of the price I was charged last year for the new alternator, I'm assuming it's brand new and not remanufactured. Even if it was remanufactured, I would think it would last longer than 15 months. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to navigate this conversation with the auto mechanic because I feel they should replace it at no cost, however, there is no warranty info in the invoice. Also, what irritates me is that they gave me a quote for the whole service and when I showed up to pick up the minivan, they charged me an additional $150 becuase they said they couldn't access the alternator without 'evacuating and recharging A/C system'. Is that true? After seeing your video, I feel like I could almost do it myself. Alternator replaced in Sep 2021: Ultima - BBB Industreies Alternator $452.85, while the labor was an additional $250. Any insight or feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Remove Serpentine Belt!!! Great video. I fought with the alternator pulling it out and finally got it, but it was ridiculous getting past the AC tubing, engine and pulleys. When I was putting the new one back in, it slipped right in. I had taken the serpentine belt off to inspect it right before putting the new one in. When the new one slipped right in with no issues my epiphany was born! With the serpentine belt out of the way, it gives you a tiny bit more space and the alternator will slip right out, up and to the left to the wheel well shelf. So F#$%ING easy! If I ever have to do this again to this vehicle, that will be the magic last tip. Using the black bungee is also a huge help in getting it up and out.

Thanks for the video. First start after install, the belt was quiet. But there has been a whine since the second start. 5 days running so far and everything works well, just louder than normal. All the bolts all torqued to spec. Not sure if the bottom bolt sleeve adjustment to get the new alternator in misaligned the alternator pulley? Replacement was from rockauto, Pure Energy (reman Denso).
@DantheFixitMan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jared, Did you replace the belt with a new one? You might try that, or try tightening the belt up a little. I wouldn’t think the replacement alternator or moving that sleeve a little would cause much offset at all. Hopefully it’s just a loose belt. -Dan the Fix it Man
@jaredcoco80432 жыл бұрын
@@DantheFixitMan I did not change the belt as it only has 3k miles on it. Only adjustment I see for the belt tension is to replace the belt tensioner on this engine.
@DantheFixitMan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jared, Got it, thank you. Yes, I would have reused that belt too with so few miles on it... And my mistake on the suggestion of tightening the belt...I was thinking of a different alternator replacement video that I did...(scratch that suggestion) I guess it's possible that the pulley on the new alternator is not the correct one? I have had to change them from time to time on remanufactured alternators with the original pulley taken off the old alternator. I guess it's also possible, but less likely that the replacement alternator has a noisy bearing...You might try spraying a little bit of wd40 or something similar on the belt while it's running to see if that quiets it down...Don't spray a lot as it will make the belt slip, but I sometimes do that when trying to isolate a noisy belt sound.

It much easier to get the alternator out and in if the smaller power steering reservoir line is off the tank and moved. Just suction out the tank and remove the small line, doesn’t drip much but I zip tied a latex glove finger over the tube ends. That 5 min step would have saved an hour of struggling. Plus your fluid needs to be changed anyway right?

There is no reason to remove the 2 bolts that remove the power steering fluid container. There is a clip on the bracket that releases the container from the bracket. At 2:04 your finger is pointing to the clip. Just pull that clip away from the container then pull the container straight up. To make easier for me to remove then replace the alternator from the van, I removed the alternator from the top bracket by removing the allen bolt then I also removed the bolt holding the bracket on. This made it much easier to maneuver the alternator. It also helped me align the new alternator for the bottom bolt. Then I remounted the top bracket and bolted the alternator to it.
