2014 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 MIL Flashing, Loss Of Power Code P1326

This Sonata was towed in due to the MIL flashing and power loss. Retrieved code P1326 for excessive knock activity. I believe this vehicle has had the reprogramming done to enhance the knock sensor sensitivity in order to prevent catastrophic damage due to connecting rod failure. I believe the knock sensor may be picking up EMI from the injector circuits. I also found a bulletin recommending an OE oil filter. I replace the filter topped up the engine oil and cleard the code for now. I could not hear any engine noises. I will post a follow-up when or if the problem returns.

The check engine light flashing due to knock sensor and constant knocking might be due to several reasons. I own a hyundai sonata and I had this problem. But It was nothing to worry about the engine because it was a factory recall to UPDATE the Sensor Software. Initially the local autoshop told me to use the engine warranty and get a new engine while the engine was totally fine. So, I gave the car to Service center and they Fixed it for absolutely NO COST!!!

Hope that is the fix. Had a freind who's 2014 Dart started to run funny after a oil change at one of those fast oil change places. Dealer wanted to change cam phasers etc. She traded it, but it may have been related to oil or filter. These vehicles are so sensitive.

Yes so far it's been fine. I only use oe oil filters on this car.

Why do you prefer the Hyundai oem oil filters? Do they have better filtration than say, M1?

There is a bulletin from Hyundai stating non OEM filters can contribute to the P1326 code so I don't take a chance.

A friend just had the same situation. Loss of power, blinking CEL, but the difference was that a noise started after he got out of the highway. The noise got worse and worse and vehicle stop running. I check the code was the knock sensor one yet once I heard the noise it did sound like connecting rod bearing noise. I could update after the dealer checks it.

@jamieowens6247 Yes, it was rod knock noise. The engine was under an extended warranty, and it was replaced by the dealer. Another friend had the problem of consuming lots of oil. 2qt every 2 weeks. Yet because there was no noise/damage in the engine, they would not replace the engine.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport and it’s been making a rattling noise when I accelerate and my engine light recently came on and gave me the same code. Had my intake runner motor changed but it’s still making that same noise. And it’s also running through oil very quickly but no oil leaks and no oil lights came on. When it was check it needed 4 quarts of oil. Do you know what it could be?

You need to take it to the dealer. It may need a new engine. They tend to develop rod bearing failures. There is a recall on the engine and it should be under warranty. Make sure the oil is full before bringing it there.

2014 hyundai sante fe check engine light came on today and was flashing, the code p1326 popped up and was told the whole engine needs to be replaced. no noise but when your start to go it hesitates then goes hoping its nothing serious or expensive.

My car lost power on the freeway when I was accelerating, and the check engine light started flashing. I took it to the the auto part store to scan for codes, but no codes came up. I bought spark plugs and replaced right away. It was running fine but the next day it did the same thing, loss of power, and check engine light blinking. What can it be?

If you use just an OBD2 scan tool, which is likely what the parts store used it may not report the P1326 code. If yours had the recall done to "enhance" the knock sensor sensitivity it may be responding to perceived engine knock. It may actually have an engine problem as well. I'd say go to the dealer and have them check it over. May be under warranty.

just had a sonata…. same code same complaint found it to be low on oil…. but recently had oil changed wonder if oil consumption or lube tech didnt add enough oil…. topped oil up cleared codes and been running fine..

Your engine is going to rip soon.even I had the same issues.i replaced oil and after 250 miles it started again making noise.Go the Hyundai dealer and get it diagnoized.

After replacing the cylinder head b/c of a broken valve and driving great for a week, I got the p1326. Lucky the update was done. I wonder how long the new engines last. I have hear some people go thru several engines. It’s almost paid off and I’d like to keep it for another 100k miles.

@@majinoozaru2048 It depends on the code. If it’s the p1326, it could be the engine, or like mine. It was just the knock sensor. The sensor is probably a day, and is covered under warranty, if you did the Knock sensor update to extend your warranty. If it’s the engine. That can be weeks to a month.

@@majinoozaru2048 I would check to see if you have the 953 service campaign done. If so you are good shape. If pep boys says it’s a Knock sensor code. Send it to the dealer and have them fix it for free. I had my 953 done and when I took it to the dealer they said it was all covered by warranty, didn’t pay anything but was out a car for 2 weeks. You can also buy a knock sensor for $40 and change it, if your handy.

No engine noise heard. I think the program is too sensitive now since the recall.

My 2012 Sonata have 205,000 kms. on it. Recently, I noticed a flashing engine light was on, I pulled the codes and it was a P1326. I started the engine and it only have less than 1/2 the power. Tried to step on the gas and it doesn't want to rev passed 2000 rpm. I listened to the engine and I don't hear any Rod Knock, so, I cleared the codes and my engine runs normal. It's been 2 days, the code did not came back. I am speculating that there was a glitch in my cars computer or the knock sensor is starting to fail. I have yet to observe my sonata if the CEL comes back, nevertheless, before I turn off my engine, I rev the engine a bit and listen to the engine noise if there is a Rod Knock. All the TSB's and Rod Knock testing was already performed by my dealer in 2019. Hyundai Canada have extended the warranty of my engine to 200k kms. after the last testing. Too bad, I am passed passed the 200k kms. mark.

Electromagnetic Interference, Any wire with a pulsing high voltage can create EMI that can induce a voltage in an adjacent wire. The knock sensor is susceptible to this since its wires are running in the same harness as the injector wires and the normal signal from the knock sensor is an AC signal.

Did not know they did that with the knock sensor but I knew those engine were garbage. I guess been away from the industry to long. 😂

Yes I learned this a few months ago on another SantaFe. Seems the engines tend to throw a con rod through the side of the block, spew oil on the cat converter and catch on fire. This is their fix for that.
