Yeah it's a Unibody crossover with independent suspension all around, and it still hauls ass almost like a real SUV with a frame. The air suspension then makes its ride mushy and firm at the same time giving it a nice ride, while being able to have good handling (you can feel the 5000 pound weight though). My experiences driving one have always put a smile on my face.

I was playing with our 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk in the snow up on the mountains last month. It uses Quadra-Drive II, and it NEVER got stuck. I never even used the snow setting, and left it on auto mode. The tires on it were Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires. The super tiny turning radius was also a HUGE help up there because of some cramped areas where there was a restaurant and neighborhood with countless vehicles roaming the place. I did put it on its second highest suspension height though because I didn't take the front air dam off, and the snow was deep in some areas.

This generation of grand cherokee wk2 on a solid frame, the new wl is no longer available, the dealer in Australia sent me with regards to the welded frame in wk2: Monocoque Body with Built-in Ladder Frame They say that superior off-road handling capability could only come at the expense of on-road smoothness. They have obviously never driven grand cherokee . By incorporating a lightweight and highly rigid monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame that provides added resistance to torsion and flexing and fixing them atop a dynamic independent suspension, Grand cherokee achieves an unprecedented combination of all-terrain control and luxury-sedan comfort. For added durability, grand cherokee now makes more extensive use of galvanized steel body panels, while the new aluminum hood panel reduces weight for better handling.

I went with 17" KMC XD Rockstar II wheels and 32" Nitto Trail Grappler 265/70R17. Most of the off-road look comes from the Old Man Emu 2" Suspension Lift. If you're going for the look versus the utility then I'd save the money and put the 2.5" spacer lift from Rocky Road Outfitters on. The tires don't rub at all, but I think that's because I have the lift to help with clearance on the front tires. www.arbusa.com/uploads/PDF/newProductAdvice/2014/WK2_OME.pdf www.rocky-road.com/wk2-lift-kit.html

its weird at the end when the two wheels were spinning, i couldn't see the other side but i thought that they were supposed to have some kind of lockers or something in them.
@dustin4678 жыл бұрын
+Jack S The Quadra Trac-I uses the brakes to act like diff-locks, so instead of it instantly putting torque to the other wheel it has to spin, get detected spinning, then the brake is applied to the wheel spinning, and THEN it'll put torque to the other wheel. It's a great innovation, but pales in comparison to true locking differentials. Oh, and even if you get the Quadra Trac-II that has locking diffs it'll only apply to the rear diff, the front will still work as I described above.
@JackS4258 жыл бұрын
+Dustin Koenning ah OK. yeah it's pretty cool technology I agree. Feels like a down grade from my WJ with quadra drive.
@dustin4678 жыл бұрын
I agree. Check out this post from Thomas Maresh "Perhaps a poor word choice. I meant that the front axle is locked to the rear axle through the transfer case so that the front wheels spin at the same speed as the rear. The WJ (99-04, which I have) has QuadraDrive, where the diffs are Limited Slip using VariLock (hydraulic geroter pumps), which is a little different than the typical LSD, but it's still just an LSD. The WK (05 - 10) has QuadraDrive II, where the diffs are electronic LSDs UNTIL the computer says enough is enough and will lock the diffs (both front *& rear). With the WK2, the model seen in this video, they dropped the locker from the front diff so it now has only traction control, but the rear diff will still eventually lock. In all cases, when the driver puts it in 4Lo, the front axle is locked to the rear and the ratio is upped from 1:1 to 2.72:1. The other options in the GCs are SelecTrac and QuadraTrac II, which do not have LSDs." Pretty informative and lines up with what you said.

I was wondering, how has the lift and tires effected your gas mileage?? I'm thinking of doing this to mine
@dustin4679 жыл бұрын
Well...the gas mileage took a hit, and not like it was great to start with either. With the larger tires the gas mileage is a little off anyways (I haven't really tested it to be sure but I think that if I was really getting 17 mpg it would read about 15 mpg). You could do the math using the 32 OD tire etc. All together though my in town reading is about 13-14 mpg and highway tops out at 17-18 mpg (remember these are falsely low). But take this with a grain of salt considering that I'm always first out of a red light and I make good use of my radar detector on the highway. Also, I removed the front air dams/spoiler below the bumper to make it look better. I still think the look is worth it, it stands out and has the stance that Jeep should've given it from the start. If you don't use it for off roading you should go with the RRO 2.5" lift and save some cash to put toward the wheels/tires.
@tc1uscg659 жыл бұрын
Dustin Koenning Sounds normal. My 09 KK now has goodyear Duratrac's, 255/65 16's, Old Man EMU 3inch suspension lift, JCR offroad rockrails (stage 3) full skids and custom front steel bumper that tips the scall at 124lbs w/o the winch stuck in the receiver hole and class III/Iv rear hitch. My MPG city is 12. Hwy is 16 on a good day and if you tach under 2k RPM. But we all know Jeep/Chrysler can't make a gas burner that is just OK on gas. My daily driver is a 2013 VW Passat TDi. Long hwy drives net me 58mpg. City stop and go, 42. BIG difference. My 02 KJ isn't tricked out and gets 14 city. 18 hwy. Not much better then the 09.

Clicking is normal; it's solenoids opening and closing. It should sounds the same as when you change gears from park to drive or reverse, but anything more than this is not normal. How is your gas mileage with the new tires?

+Rick Size After the tires, lift, and removing the front air dam it's not very good...it's around 13-15 mpg now!

Any vibration issues on highway?
@dustin46710 жыл бұрын
None. I just rotated the tires at 5,000 miles and had barely begun to notice some vibration in the steering wheel at 55 mph. When I rotated them I noticed they were wearing a little more on one side than the other (alignment could of been a little closer to straight from the beginning though). After a few hundred miles more there's no vibrations and the road noise has gone back down to a low hum. I'm really impressed with Nitto on these tires!

Thanks man, looking at a couple setups. Yours has been the best I have seen. One of the more aggressive tire setup up also. Getting my ducks in a row before I purchase one.
