Nearly 42 grand for a Kia? Believe it. The brand known for budget cars is going after Avalon, LaCrosse and Maxima. Lexus and Acura too. Tom Voelk travels to San Diego, CA to see if it competes.

I never thought I'd find myself wishing to own a Kia! I am legitimately impressed with their latest offerings and this Cadenza's a homerun!!! Very beautiful car! And for $41000 you get a lot of great content!

My friend traded his Lexus for a Kia and he is very happy. When you outgrow the need for badges and just want a really nice car, these new cars are pretty slick and offer more for the money. And when you get sick of dealing with the upkeep of a BMW when the warranty wears out...the Kia looks even better.

This car is for those who are not ashamed to park a Kia in their driveway, and those who can appreciate luxury from a lesser known brand. Sure there may be imperfections and quirks that are common in companies trying to establish its new identity, but keeping in mind that no luxury car is without its hidden cheapness, this car should suit you if you are a daring adventurer.
@DrivenCarReviews11 жыл бұрын
Actually, I could introduce you to that guy. A friend of mine did that very thing. FYI everyone, Cadenza is based on the same architecture as Azera, Genesis is on a different rear-drive platform. And while Hyundai and Kia share drivetrains and platform architectures, they are two different companies. And they REALLY don't like being compared to each other. Trust me on that.

The testing they do in these cars in insane, they test the engines at peak load and peak RPM for 300 hours, 12 days then run them for another 72 hours 20% above red line and then check out the engines and there is very little signs of wear.

Kia and Hyundai has improved their quality and reliability. While Toyota, Honda, and other Japanese makes has had their troubles. Example, Honda with the high transmission failures from 1998 to about 2003. Toyota has lots of recalls too. While every car maker will have their faults. The Korean car makers in my opinion have closed the gap. Their cars offers a lot of car for the money with a great warranty. From what I remember the average buyer does not keep their cars more than five years.

I have owned the 2012 Kia Optima and a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Aside from fuel economy and some light difference in the ride smoothness the Kia wins hands down for me in terms of drivability and visual appeal. The Hybrid is a lease and looking at this new Cadenza I will certainly be adding it to my test drive list in 2015.

Well done KIA!!! They should create a luxury brand like Lexus, Infiniti to get customers. Not many people will spend 40K for a KIA.

Tom -- and Kia has heated and cooled front seats for the Optima. That's a major gripe for a $40k Kia.
@urafudgehead11 жыл бұрын
My girlfriend's mother actually traded down from a barebones 3 series to an Optima with tech/premium packages which give you so much more for the money. Of course, the dynamics of said Optima aren't comparable to the 3 series, but then again, one must admit, most 3 series buyers are simply badge whores. One need only pay a trip to Los Angeles to see. I doubt they purchased their cars because they autocross. Most folks are simply seeking features or prestige...or both.

people do such things all of the time ive seen people go from a Mercedes and Audi to a Hyundai genesis and a sonata. they bought two cars for the price of one. Hyundai an KIA are two companies you shouldn't fuck with. some people just want a stylish car that is reliable with a lot of features and you don't have to spend a hundred thousand dollars on and that is your opinion i respect it and i also find it weird that people go from a BMW to a KIA but KIA and Hyundai must be doing something right.

Hyudai Excel and Kia Sephia are models from the 90's! They ceased production of those cars over 10 years ago! It's 2013 now in case you haven't noticed. Look at the current Hyundai/Kia models. Every car industry journalist has noticed how much better Hyundai/Kia have got.

After seeing your review for this car, I have to say that I actually like it much more than I thought I was going to. I'm still not a huge fan of the name Cadenza however at least it is not a soulless alpha-numeric like so many other automakers are using nowadays. I am surprised that only the driver seat is cooled in this car while both front seats are in the less expensive Optima SX. You would think that at the price that this car is going for, they could have given cooling to both seats.
@lexusfan10011 жыл бұрын

and thats what most people do anyways. that also means brands like MB and BMW would never be the worlds largest car producer like Toyota. im guessing only 20% of all people who drive a new MB/BMW/Audi actually own it. and if they do, its preowned.
@OneOfaKind94911 жыл бұрын
Ultimately Kia and Hyundai will have to come up with a different brand name like Honda did with Acura and Toyota did with Lexus in order to sell cars in the 40K range in my humble opinion. I still think of Kia and Hyundai as a value brand, far from luxury.

It is a nice car. I guarantee you that if they took the KIA badges off the front and the steering wheel, they would sell at least 30% more. Same goes for Hyundai. The KIA badge is just not attractive and looks cheap, does not even have anything to do with the name image.

hondas were ALWAYS built to last and serve well dating back to the first models in the 60s. you certainly cannot say that about kias and hyudais. and like i said take 500 2012 elantras and 500 2012 civics and see how many elantras are on the road in 15 years. today ALL car companies are building desirable competitive cars unlike in the 90s where hondas and toyotas were so far ahead of everyone else so the fact that kias have swoopy bodys and soft touch interiors aint shit

look at what chevy has done to the impala or what ford has done to the focus. these are now high quality pieces and the previous models were pieces of garbage so hydai and kia are not enomolies. as a matter a fact the optima and the sonata are consistently ranked at the back of the pack by the big three car mags when compared wiyh their competition aqnd the accord is usually 1 or 2. but for reliability kia and hyundai have not earned shit and nor has detroit. honda toyota are supreme..
