Bernadette Bailey Not trying to start drama , but anyone can call themselves a Hip Hop dancer. Indian dancers, especially Bahangra as this young lady was doing, is very hard. One of the most hardest ethnic dances in the world. It takes years to master and hours of practice. You have to hold certain stunts that you do not have to hold in hip hop dance. I have a lot of respect for hip hop. But honestly, depending on the level, you can learn a Hip Hop dance in less than two weeks. Bahangra and Bollywood takes longer than just two weeks to learn and clean by counting by eights.

I proud to say that I had the pleasure of being with Nina Davuluri this evening (11/8/14) in Fort Lauderdale, at the (HAF) Hindu American Foundation gala dinner, in which I am a member. Her beauty is astounding and her personality and charm are gracious. She was an honored guest and speaker. I presented her with 3 custom hand-made jewelry pieces from India: "Bollywood dancer, Azure crown, & Equilibrium". As a personal gift from me, I gave her diamond earrings. When she performed this dance number, I knew she was the winner. Everything about her was unique and different from the other contestants. So glad I had the opportunity to meet her in person. Rachel Stoutamire Well spoken ma'am! I am half Indian and half German, living in Germany and I was shocked to read, she had to face racism after becoming Miss America. Comments like '9/11 was 4 days ago and she became Miss America'. I actually thought the US had gotten beyond that. There are so many Asian-Americans out there like Jason Scott Lee etc. She looks a bit like a mix of African and European ancestors to me, like Obama does. Except for the straight hair, she could well be mistaken for a 'colored American' (no offense meant!) I'd say.

Rachel Stoutamire Her parents are from Andhra Pradesh, a state in south India so she is probably dravidian. Dravidians share many similiarities with Africans and were according to many historians the first group to arrive to India from Africa. Unlike north indians, south indians are often stereotyped as studious and intelligent. North Indians are mostly a mix of dravidians and aryans(iranians).

Wow. The amount of ignorance my fellow american's manage to display is appaling. I'm proud to be from a country with such diversity. I think it's a huge leap for America culturally. She's gorgeous, and embodies all that it means to be an american. We have prided ourselves on diversity since our country's birth. Since when is that a bad thing?? I'm getting a huge sense of "butthurt" and "jealousy" from a lot of people. I think you should probably work on yourselves a little more before the judgement is passed onto the newly crowned Miss America.

Im not going to lie... i think this was horrible... not the dance moves themselves because ive seen moves like that, i think it was the way she arranged them??? it looked so sloppy and not even timed that well. :/ but no hate ! i just love bollywood dancing and i ran into this one hoping for a better performance i guess. haha.

You obviously don't know Bollywood dancing that well. It was almost perfect. The timing, the energy, the expressions. Maybe timing wasn't fantastic, but it was still amazing. You don't even know how hard it is to jump. She did her moves so well, and it FLOWED. Which is a big thing in Bollywood dancing.

Ive been watching a lot of this dancing since i was in second grade dude and im 19 now, no im not saying im an expert at this dancing but you obviously dont know what an opinion is lol doesnt mean idk bollywood dance.. it looks bad not because of the moves themselves but because these (SOME not all) moves dont go with the song TO ME. its my opinion. it is what it is lol. the energy was good, the enthusiasm in her face, but the timing and kind of moves was my point doesnt matter wat kind of dance style it is. ;) but im glad she had fun. i guess i didnt make clear that SOME parts were bad.

I'm an Indian and honestly, her dance was not good at all. Plus, wtf is wrong with the sound in this video. The song sounds like chipmunk version of "dhoom tana" song because of the horrible sound quality.

My hearty Congratulations Nina. BUT, you have misused the greatest opportunity to Showcase TELUGU's (South Indian Language) culture. You could have picked up a nice Telugu Song but rather you double down the same perception of India which West already has. India is a huge diverse country. You should be proud of your own culture in which you are born and bought up. Since you have already choose a Indian song to perform, it could have been a nice Telugu one which is also Indian and don't need to dress up like one some 100 years back. I See so many people here in USA are enjoying more Southern Indian Songs than the Bolly Crap these days. It;s just my opinion. Anyways, all the best.

Nina I love you so much for making a mark for indian immigrants in USA. I am an indian immigrant of second generation living in Europe. You make us so proud. Literally I had tears when you won it. I never expected that you had to face racism there as i thought USA is melting pot of all cultures. Atleast this became an issue of public discussion which is very rare in Europe
