I just bought a 2016 Tundra Crewmax with the TRD Off Road package. I made a list of what I wanted in a new truck - first was reliability; second was the ability to put 3 child seats in the back; third was decent off road capability since I travel to a cabin at the end of a pretty rough piece of road several times a year; fourth was a V8. The Tundra was the best option for me with those priorities in mind. For folks that want better fuel economy or more options to choose from, the domestic manufacturers are probably a better choice. I've owned Chevy's and Fords in the past and all have been good trucks; my dad has a 16 year old Silverado and a new Ram EcoDiesel - both great trucks. That being said, the folks I've known with Tundras tend to not spend much time in the shop and run them forever. The Toyota should have the lowest TCO if you keep the truck for a while, although I don't think you can go wrong with any of the full size trucks from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, or Nissan. It all just comes down to what your priorities are, what options are available, and personal preference.

Better off with Oriental engineers than Mexican or American Engineers. ford and chevy/gm make engines,frames and components in Mexico and assemble them in the USA. Oriental children who become engineers have stricter values and principles. "They're hungry" with a strong passion to succeed. Thats why they're projected to be number 1 in the world.

I have an 07' Tundra I bought new. I have had several Tacoma's. The absolute very best thing about this truck is the 5.7 engine. It is fantastic! I also have an f-350 dually. The dually actually rides better in my opinion, but the tundra is much more fun to drive. I intend to buy another. I would like to see a bigger fuel tank. I want a supercharger on my next one because I just do. I wish it could be ordered from the factory.But it may be a while. I have a history of keeping them until they drop, and Toyotas don't drop easy..

@ Barrett, the corrosion issues were dealt with and are a thing of the past. The issue began with DANA corp who was required to pay Toyota 25 million for their faulty frames. DANA Corp also was responsible for the Ford F-150 corrosion issue. If you want to see rust problems just Google rust and place the name of any truck. There is an entire forum talking about a 2014 F-150 with a frame already coated in rust. What was shown in this video were wear marks. Also, look at NHTSA's investigation into roughly 3 million GM vehicles for rusty brake lines.

I have a 2014 double cab Limited. I call B.S on getting a Crew Max with 6.5”bed. It’s the only thing keeping me from getting a new one. After riding in a family member’s GMC Sierra with the equivalent to a Crew cab with a 6.5 bed I don’t believe I could buy another double cab. No reason why Toyota can’t make a Crew Cab with a 6.5’ bed.

if they truly listened to the customer they should know that whatever the tacoma has the tundra owners want. I off road with my truck alot and have options for longer bed too fit more gear and outlet in the back to run equipment shouldn't be hard. i have a power inverter and it works great and no issues with over heating running a hitachi power drill for 30 minutes drilling into wood and concrete to put in set screws. I just dont get it with everything it gots they need to make it happen.

Two completely different trucks now. First gen Tundras was in between a mid size truck and full size and could fit the bill for both... but neither very well. But customers wanted a good full size Toyota not a jack of all trades. Personally I agree with you. I love my first gen jack of all trades. But to keep that the Tundra would not got credit as full size truck... So it boils down to market and what sales. Good news is first gens are still to be had for a bargain!

I researched trucks for 2 years before I bought another one. i had an 08 tundra and it was amazing, got rid of it for a luxury car which I ended up not caring for lol. It came down to trust. I don't trust Chrysler products and definitely don't trust a hemi. I don't trust the ecoboost with so many issues it's had, but I do trust the coyote motor ford has but the rest of the truck has fit and finish issues among other things. I trust the Tundra.

the first 600 kilometers on the truck i'am getting 18.1 liters/100 km. thats around 13 mpg i think. my co-workers ecoboost f150 is getting 15.4 liters/100km. so.. i dont think it's that terrible. probably will get slightly better in a few thousand km.

The law firm of Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating certain Toyota models with the 5.7L V8 engine for Camshaft Tower leakage. Affected are the 2010-2018 models of the Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, Sienna, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX570. Customers report that a camshaft tower repair includes service or replacement of the oil filter, the oil pan drain plug gasket, the formed in place gasket oil pan, and the camshaft bearing gasket. Out of warranty, the repair costs $3,500. @t

I have a Limited Crewmax Dble cab with off road package. After many hours of driving in 'D' per se 75-85, then taking foot off of gas pedal, I hear a reving up in the transmisson while the speedometer needle is lowering.Also,could the shift box/shift gears need calibration? I took it back to service dealership to check and they said the shift/shift box really doesnt have any involvement with calibration of speed. It feels at 80 it calibrates to 70/65 per hour. I know it is not a race car.I have not been able to keep speed with other Limited TRD crewmaxes on the highway.

Hmm, so if you use the same grade gas (premium) in a reg 5.7 supercharged and a flex fuel 5.7 supercharged the flex fuel engine isn't as efficient? If the tunes are the same and the same parts are replaced (fuel pump, injectors, and etc) then the output should be very similar. I assume hes talking about if you were to use E85 in a flex fuel supercharged 5.7.

I agree, I have NEVER met anyone that likes the new rear seating better. We are in an offroading club with a large number of Tundras. Thus far all 10 or so of the people I have spoken / messaged all say the same thing. The new rear seats suck. I love my 2014, the back seats are a major let down.
@Thamac15
@Thamac15 10 жыл бұрын
Rob Robert The rear seats are still comfortable yes? It's just that you don't like they no longer recline? That's not a let down. A let down is having an ecoboost f150 that falls flat on its face when you hammer it to get on the interstate and almost die. Ecoboost limp mode is a let down.

I've never owned a Toyota, but I admire, recognize & believe in their reputation. I want to purchase a Tundra, but it doesn't have the diversity of options that I want. They need to invest more into customer wants & needs. I can't avoid or escape seeing the "Big 3" all over utube, showing and displaying their trucks and it's amenities but I can only find limited amts on Toyota. Toyota is too secretive, why should customers spend so much on your vehicles they know very little about. F150 displays their chassis in more ways than one, even on a rotisserie spindle for all to see. Think toyota would do that? In this video we could hardly see a shot of the full chassis. What the hell are you hiding. All manufacturers know everything about each other's vehicles, only we the customers know little or nothing at all. Makes me wonder why, Toyota! Whats up with this always growing bigger and bigger front grill: It ain't necessary. Of course a functional and attractive grill but keep the hood lower. It is getting ridiculous. F150, GMC Sierra & Chevy Silverado Hood & grill design, are just what it should be and give us a beautiful interior like the Ram. Your 1794 Logo and again embossed in the leather interior has no effect on me. That is all about your advertising. You should be paying me to drive around with it in my vehicle. Give me real true value for my money Mr.Toyota, and stop thinking we can't see thru your ruse. Offer features like the F150 has, with theToyota engineering and watch your sales improve dramatically. Of course keep the price low by offering add on options. Do not force me to get one trim over another. Find a way to make that work for you. Ford does it. You must also also have a killer stereo with equalizer & sub woofer. I go nowhere without my music (reggae) sounding Boom-bastic. Not loud and distorted but properly EQ. Finally a bigger gas tank to be able to fill up when at a cheap gas-station, and not having to stop too often. Offer the options your competitors have that makes a difference for your customers. Stop being so reticent, you Toyota engineers, get with the program and give the customers what they're asking for. Until then I refuse to buy Toyota, although I love Toyotas for many other aspects.

If you can afford a tundra, you can afford a trailer to pull behind you. After all, were looking at 10k pounds of capability in a gas engine. Short bed crew looks really good and sells really good. I recently made this decision myself. I had owned GM trucks most of my life but it always seemed I was faced with added expenses down the road to keep them running decent. My wife was a Toyota fan when we met(RAV4 & Highlander) so our family vehicles always had to be a Toyota. One day I was pouring over receipts and was noticing a lot of expense in the vehicle categories and something interesting came to light. Over the last 7 years 4 GM trucks and 3 Toyota Highlanders 89% of repair expenses we from the GM trucks. I made a decision that I was going to do what my wife had been asking for years buy a Tundra. I absolutely love it!

The reason why I drive a ford because it meets all my criteria. none of the other competitor cannot match. I love Texas. Born and raise. would like to drive a Texas truck but tundra needs to add several more feature before I will switch. 1- I don't care what you think with just a 5.5' bed is a better option for a crewmax. Customer is always right. I want a 6.5' bed with a crewmax body. 2- I want to have heated seats in the rear passenger seats. also make the back passenger area floor flat. don't like a hump or anything. want it flat. 3- redo the dash configuration its looks ugly. 4- I understand that many 3/4, 1 ton truck ford super duty have( or had) a c-channel frame. They have all that torque that will twist the frame and having a fully box stiff frame would crack, but having a open c channel would give the flex to not crack but be able to handle all that torque. I disagree being a c channel on a 1/2 ton truck. you don't have 800 or 900 ft. lb. of torque but only 400 ft. lb. of torque so fully box would be ok to use. These are my criteria. if toyota decide to do some of these changes for the next gen tundra and implement some of these changes, you have my attention.

Yes you can, but you have to convert it to an all gas no flex engine, It's possible and its been done...there's a video on YT of a truck that had it done.

Why HID headlights are not offered on any Tundra?
@CACressida
@CACressida 10 жыл бұрын
US DOT Laws prevent it. You HID lights aren't allowed at a certain height. The headlights would need to be placed lower in order to meet DOT laws, but with new LED lighting, maybe that might be different.

The Tundra is a fabulous truck! No doubt about it. But why the hell can't I get a black, double cab, long bed, 4x4 Platinum, 5.7? I want Platinum for the luxury features, doing lots and lots of km's, a double cab because I travel alone (60% of the time) but still do need a bit of interior storage space and I'm takin' customers on the road for the rest of the time from. And of course I wouldn't want them to travel in a poor truck cabin when haulin' their (very) expensive collection cars from circuit to circuit or to and from an auction. So mr. Sweers... why are the possibilities to combine Tundra trucks so restricted at Toyota's since you have all it takes?

I love everything about my 2012 Tundra DC except that it does not have a true locking diff. Toyota is slow to chase market/owner drive (Prius excepted) so I don't expect them to change much of what already works. I do with in case of the tundra wish that they would take all that we love in the Tacoma (but it was too small for us) and put in the Tundra. We all use the trucks the same , even off-road/overland so that is where Tundra is missing out because they lose buyers. On interior quality, love my base but even the top model doesn't compete with the D3 top truck models (not my style, but it's noticeable).

I love my 2013 Tundra... but for this video about the 2014, why didn't they just say, "to answer your questions about anything mechanical, please refer to any videos for the 2007-2013 Tundra models. And NO, nothing is different mechanically or with efficiency."

Gas is not cheap anymore. Had Toyota think about a locking system for the tank fuel cap? At least something identical to Corolla, Camry, Sienna... pop door from inside the car.

Hill assist is needed. For the price you charge for this truck should be standard. I Like my truck. But not love it. Oh and Inverter should have been standard for 120w. Honestly after my Tahoe and Silverado I feel interior could use a bit more.

The current Tundra is an improvement from the previous model but there are some things in this video that made me laugh a little. I don't understand how they can stand behind the current fuel economy rating on this truck. Sure it has some good tech in there but it lacks technical features some of the current half tons offer(direct injection, turbo, cylinder deactivation, ect) Don't get me wrong, it is a good motor. The frame really made me laugh. The Tundra does not ride any better than it's competitors with fully boxed frames. Frame flex for better off road performance is questionable. I wouldn't think the frame giving maybe 3/4 of an inch more with flex? To me, this is shaving the price of the overall cost of the vehicle production. I'd rather have the fully boxed any day. I think Toyota has earned it's spot in the domestic half ton market with the Tundra but if they really want to be a contender, they had better step it up. I do believe they are headed in the right direction but they have got to stop waiving around the reliability like it will put them on top. Same goes for the Tacoma... solid truck but good grief, 2005 technology and returning full size truck mpg's. C'mon Toyota, you have many buyers waiting!

Maybe this engineer is talking to a ford customer NOT a Toyota customer when they remove the reclining seat. Anyways, just bought 2018 1794 after 5 years because of getting a very low monthly payment. That's it. I missed my 2013 CM.

Oh and more on the rear seat in the 2014 Tundra, couldn't you have at LEAST provided under-seat or behind-the-seat storage??? Did Toyota actually introduce ANY new features besides a new radio and instrument cluster? I mean without removing better features like said reclining rear seat. How is this being competitive??? So basically comparative power, but with worse mpg/efficiency is somehow better than the competition?? Oh and you retuned the shocks. YAY. Looks good, but I'm not sure I'll go back with a Tundra when that time comes.

WOULD NOT recommend to get Tundra unless you are going to spend more than $6000 on the transmission after 100K miles. Toyota built crappy transmission --don't waste your $. We have 2008 Tundra failed on transmission and Toyota wouldn't recognize,they said we are just the unlucky one. So either pay the dealer $6000 or take it somewhere else --that's how you will get treat with Toyota

true, but when you buy a 40k truck it would be nice to have these options. corollas and rav4s have those options. the 1794 edition nor the platinum have projectors or push to start. I'm just saying those options would have helped. every other maker has them.

don't fool yourself people, although toyotas are pretty good trucks, the have their problems too. Torque converter failure, uncontrollable front end shake, unprecedented bed flex/ shake. And the 09 we had was as bad on fuel as my 6.0l GMC. With no more power. Great trucks, just don't think they are the be all and end all.
