2014 U21 3MT® WINNER Amy Elizabeth Marquardt

University of Maryland Ph.D. candidate Amy Marquardt's Judges' Choice AND People's Choice Award-winning entry in the 2014 Three Minute Thesis Competition. Amy, a student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, explains how she uses nanotechnology to produce a safe, removable, and virtually invisible coating designed to protect silver art and artifacts from tarnish. The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Md. is currently testing the performance of the coating on one of the cultural heritage objects in its collection. Amy is advised by Professor Ray Phaneuf.
