This reminded me of the hail storm in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 16, 2010 where many buildings and cars were damaged. One video in particular showed a family trying desperately to protect their belongings as hail broke through almost all the windows of the house. I wish I could remember who made that video, because it was a vivid experience of the full power of that storm, and the hail was coming down continuously, and you couldn't even hear the people talking at one point. I actually cried. I would have been terrified for my life, not to mention the nightmares I'm sure I would have had if I'd lived through that directly.

Hello Simon Coulter, is it possible to contact you regarding this video (i.e. via email)? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible to discuss? :) Cheers, Felix

Thanks for uploading. An epic storm... and I'm thinking most of the cars you can see there were written off.

Yup! This hail storm damage has now exceeded over A$1.2billion and has surpassed the cost of the 2011 Brisbane River flood (see www.abc.net.au/news/specials/qld-floods/). A lot of car yards lay in the path of the storm, several houses lost roofs and almost all houses in the path lost a few windows.

We had a storm like this several years ago at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, on a busy day, every car in the parking lot was totaled. They had to bring in city buses to get all of the stranded visitors out of there. Just type Cheyenne Mountain Zoo hail & you'll see the story.

That would've brought an airplane down. That happened here in the state of Georgia in 1977 when a Southern Airways DC9 got caught in a hail storm like this one, and crashed in New Hope. It was amazing that anyone survived. It happened on April 4. I believe there's a video here on YT under "Air Disasters."

I hope the cars weren't badly damaged...

Almost every car in the parking lot was written off since they all had broken or cracked windscreens or smaller windows and multiple hail hits to the roof and at least 3 sides of the car (the cost of panel repairs was so high that most cars older than 3 years weren't considered worth repairing by the insurance companies). In Queensland, it really pays to have comprehensive insurance. Some of the cars in the under-cover park to the right which is not walled on the incoming side had their windscreens or rear windows smashed, depending on which way they faced.

@@Lok1el OMG, that's terrible....Does it happen often?
@Lok1el5 жыл бұрын
Luckily it doesn't happen that often, maybe once or twice a year in South East Queensland and they're usally confined in a small areas (eg. the suburb of Dutton Park in this example was completely smashed while suburbs around it just received heavy rain). Sydney gets more hail storms than Brisbane, they're caused when hot and cold fronts collide, but Brisbane's are more intense, probably because it's much hotter so needs much colder fronts to form hail. We do get a lot of "Bad Weather" warnings but most amount to nothing - this one seemed no different but when it hit, it hit very fast and very hard, there was nothing we could do to save our cars.

This place is beautiful. But they have the same luck that Texas has with hail storms. Insurance premiums must be off the charts.

Hi Simon. I'm working on a TV series about extreme weather. We are covering the story of the severe Brisbane storm on 27th Nov 2014 and we may be interested in using the footage you uploaded to KZbin. Can you contact me on: andrewmorgan@titlerole.co.uk so that we can discuss. Thanks! Andrew
