Coker stepped up at the end of That season in a way that should engender the admiration of every authentic Crimson Tide fan. Look at that stat line. Just a clutch performance. He really was a steadying influence on that team as the season progressed.

@@enosbaltazar713 Jake almost certainly should have been the starter in 2014 but hindsight is 20-20. Sims wasn't doing poorly, the offense was still scoring in most games, however, to run Kiffin's offense you either have to have long time of possession (see Coker and later Mac Jones in a similar system) or you have to score so many points, so easily that defense doesn't matter (Tua). Sims just wasn't capable of putting up that many points, not like Hurts who had similar style of play. Looking back on it, this season could've easily been 8-4: Arkansas, LSU and Miss State were all decided under 7 points. Just strange to see considering we have maybe 2 close games a year. To compare, 2015 had two close games: loss at Ole Miss and a 19-14 win over Tennessee

MSU beat Iowa in Conference championship 16-13. Stanford with McCaffrey beat Iowa by 29 points in Rose Bowl. It would have been much more interesting if Stanford to play Alabama instead of MSU.

The CFP was pretty clear cut that year. The only other 1-loss team worth consideration was OSU, but Mich St defeated them at Ohio Stadium & MSU won the B10 champ. Stanford had 2 close losses, including at NW (NW was 10-3 that year but got trounced by TENN in bowl). Houston was making a run & beat Louisville w Lamar Jackson, then lost at UConn; even without that loss, MSU still goes to the CFP.

It was pretty obvious that MSU belonged in that game until the game was actually played. That's just the difference between that Bama team and everyone else. That's why they won the Natty.
