This is the only video of front sway bar end links replacement on a Gen 5 Outback 3.6R. Good job!

I'm way too chicken and mechanically inept to ever consider disassembling any bit of my suspension in any way, but I watched this anyway, and I'm glad I did. I did not know pass through sockets were a thing (refer to aforementioned mechanical ineptitude) but even I can see how useful that would be in many many situations. I think I could squeeze a set into my toolbox next to my channel locks.

Part of me thinks you wrote that while thing for the channel locks joke. But if you really ARE thinking of getting a set I would recommend it assuming you have : sockets (12+6 sided / deep + shallow) and wrenches / preferably some ratcheting wrenches. I use those way more than I use this set and they're propietary design means I can't mix and match with another set. That said. They are handy. They've been a life saver the times I've needed them. It's sort of like the drill press. I don't use it every day but man am I glad I have it when I do need it.

@@bruceyyyyy Hahaha, the channel locks joke was a total afterthought at the last second. I was seriously wowed by the pass through socket wrench, didn't know such a thing existed. I have neither deep sockets nor deep pockets and also I don't have ratcheting wrenches. I guess I HAVE seen those things before, but they've never inspired me quite the way the pass through ratchet caught my eye. You're right though, those items would probably take care of me just fine in those rare situations my regular sockets don't. I am nonetheless enchanted by the brilliance of this tool.

Brucey, did you notice any improvement in handling w/ these end links over stock?
@bruceyyyyy4 жыл бұрын
Hard to say. Definitely better than no sway bar!

What is the lube you put on the threads? I couldn't quite make out what you said. I'm installing a pair on the front tomorrow morning. Thanks.

Anti seize. It will turn you silver.

Can anyone assist? If I jack up the car just one side is that going to put tension on the sway bar ? Or would I be able to get away with replacing that part just jacking it up one side
@bruceyyyyy18 күн бұрын
It will put tension on the bar but you can jack the suspension up directly if you use a jack stand.

Look for a car wash with an underbody spray. ASAP wash the salt off the underbody, makes a huge difference. From Chicago, by the way.

Hi . Would disconnecting the sway bars help with off road Suspension Articulation.

Thank for showing! Now by “failed at 50K” what exactly happened Bruceyyy?

The boot failed and and let dirt in causing it to knock when it moved.

bruceyyyyy , just checked mine and looks like front ones are toast but rear still good. Do they make ‘em for front? Mine is a 2015 with 77k on it. No lift on it, just the Method wheels and Primitive Armor. Here in So Cal we’ve got different problems. No salt on roads but dry hot sun and weather will dry out everything rubber. Cheers!

Yes, front. Thank you gentlemen. I see it now. Biggins’ in front - smallens’ on back!

Did you measure the length/range of adjustment vs OE? It appears you have them as short as they can go but they still look too long to properly adjust for a lifted Outback.
@bruceyyyyy5 жыл бұрын
They can adjust to smaller than OEM for sure. Is there an ideal length for these?
@CouchYellowSquash5 жыл бұрын
The front is easy (1:1) since the endlinks mount to the strut@@bruceyyyyy. So to get the sway bar back to where it was a 2" lift equals a 2" shorter endlink. The rear is different since its attached in the middle of the LCA. A 1" rear suspension lift would require a 0.5" longer endlink. A spacer lift alone with matching subframe spacers would negate the need.
@bruceyyyyy5 жыл бұрын
@@CouchYellowSquash Do you happen to know the factory length? I can measure what mine are at now.
@longphan75684 жыл бұрын
@bruceyyy the factory is 14"
@longphan75684 жыл бұрын
On that note. I lowered mine about 3", so sitting ~29" all around. My endlinks with the car on leveled ground hover slightly over the divot on the lower control arm. Do I need longer endlinks since I think OEM is making slight knock on the LCA?.
