This is caused by overheating, when these CVT Nissan Vehicles go long distances under heavy acceleration their CVT fluid starts loosing viscosity because of overheating, and the CVT belt inside starts slipping thats why no more acceleration above 80 as it is already in limp mode. The best solution is to install after market stacked plate and fins transmission Cooler infront of condenser , with moving fan, controlled by thermostat that would turn on the fan at 140F and switch off the fan at 125F. As normal operating temperature for CVT is 95F to 220F any temperature above this range it starts overheating as the CVT fluid is broken and loose viscocity and doesn't provide sufficient traction on the CVT belt to match with the variable speeds from the engine.

Nissan knowingly made cheap transmissions. Specially that belt. it's becoming a common issue now. The more you drive it long distance, the worst it gets until it all over

Mine is doing the same thing and I believe the fuel sending unit is going bad. It is NOT like its stuck in gear. It actually feels as though the transmission is slipping. I went to a gas station and refilled my car and after that it was fine. But i dont want to take anymore chances so i need to get it fixed

When ever your Alton's seem to take long to speed and drives slow and won't catch speed.. It your transmission sensor and if it don't want to go.. For meantime reset your battery for 3-5 min and it start working again.. We been doing that.. Reset the battery and it works.. Hope this help.. Try it.. What do you have to lose.. It the transmission sensors need to be replace.. Good Luck

This is nuts, my 2003 Altima did this, and it’s crazy after all these years, Nissan hasn’t mastered the problem. I just bought the vc turbo 2022, the first time I drove it, it floored. Now after three week’s of driving it, it won’t accelerate as fast as it use too. Smfh

What type of gas are you running? 93 is recommended it just doesn’t say it is, I read it in a service bulletin for the qx50 (which has the same engine). Not sure why they wouldn’t put a sticker on the gas tank lid stating 93 required 87 minimum. Also when the car is off smash your gas pedal a few times, I had a day when I couldn’t get good gas mileage and I did that a few times and it fixed that for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a nissan altima 2017 I just took the car with 30,530 miles I heard new cars you dont have to warm up like old cars in this case you have wait for the engine and transmission tho the only time that my car has failed is when I turn on the car earlier and sometimes Im really hurried and when I start to drive I cant accelerate the car so I just drive my car slowly until the transmission is ready and then couple minutes later I drive like is supposed , so guys if you want to run like crazy get a bmw , Mercedes, mustang charger etc don't go crazy with cvt transmission you have to drive easily and just don't force the car specially in the morning
@jeffsautopage8764
@jeffsautopage8764 3 жыл бұрын
You must be under 30 or 40. So back in the day if you didn't warm up your car with a carburetor then it would die if you pushed on the gas not hard enough or too hard. The car had to have just the perfect amount of fuel. When I had a 1985 Dodge Charger I would have to start it and run it for 10 minutes or keep the gas peddle pushed just the right amount any time I pushed in the clutch. I was only 3-4 miles from school and this little trip was excruciating if I didn't let it warm up. So no you do not have to warm it up "like the old days." You might warm it up and it might help but the old days man, they were a real pain in the ass!!!

I am in Australia, we had the VQ Altima here. I got mine with 5,000 km on it... drove it to 70,000... by which time the CVT was shuddering all the time, and refused to start a few times. Always had it serviced on time at Nissan but they "never detected a problem"... thankfully i got a good trade on it at a Nissan Dealer before the CVT failed completely. Such a shame, because otherwise it was an absolutely beautiful car, very very well set out interior, unbelievably nice seats, and fairly well built for a Thai built model... I will never ever go near a Nissan CVT again. Which is a shame, because i genuinely love the cars otherwise.

These CVT problems are so hit and miss. I had a co-worker with this exact same Altima who never had any issues with the trans in 200K. In fact only one Altima out of our fleet ever had a trans problem. Had another co-worker with a 2015 Versa that failed the trans at 32K. It's like they either die before 40K or they go 200,000 plus.

I had a similar issue but my problem was a little different. I had this issue where the entire electrics of the car would go haywire Eg. power steering would fail, all sorts of warning lights on my dash and I could rev the engine but my car would only move at idle speed would not accelerate. Funny thing is when i shut of the car and started it again in the morning it always worked perfectly fine. MY issue was that there is a water intake or pipe right above the alternator which has a loose cap. so when ever i drove on a rough patch of road or turned too hard the water would drip out into the alternator and cause the electrics to fail.

Sorry I just realized I have notifications on here. Yes there is a secondary throttle plate in the intake manifold that controls fuel economy by fine tuning the air. The computer decides how far to open this plate. But to control it the computer sends vacuum to a valve/vacuum motor just at the end of the engine head near intake or on the intake itself and this motor turns the rod that the plates are attached to. I'll look up the name of the part and get back to you.

Erick Priego if you read through the comments you'll find out my problem actually had nothing to do with the transmission that was just a red herring. My problem was a little computer control throttle plate in the intake which is after the mass airflow which fine-tunes the amount of air that goes into the cylinder but mine was just holding it wide open or completely shut I can't remember which. Do you have a code reader? Or for that matter what led you to believe that it was a transmission issue?

That's really odd since the pedal isn't physically attached to the throttle in this car. I don't actually know what is attached to the pedal but the throttle plate is opened by the computer turning the plate (probably with gears by small electric motor). I have pictures and video since over the last couple of days I've put on new intake that attaches from to the throttle body directly.

Jeff, I am having the exact same problem accelerating with my 2011 Nissan altima I don't believe it is the transmission. This happens every so often. ABEL G there is a throttle plate inside the intake that you don't control and you can't clean it's inside the intake and it's controlled by a vacuum motor at the end of the head. I posted two videos of this see the other video I think maybe I had a better reply on there. Reply on that video if you find it so that I know that you found it otherwise I'll keep looking but I'm running out the door right now.

They were not able to duplicate my issue or pull up any error codes so they didn't replace my transmission, the only thing that they did was an update and said that it should fix the problem. That was in Jan of this year and on 11/3 /18 the transmission started messing up again. I'm like 3000 miles past the extended warranty now so I just decided to send the car back and not deal with it anymore. There have been others that replaced the transmission more than once and still had issues. What did they do about your car?
@jeffsautopage8764

The problem in this video was not my transmission after all. After this video they replace my transmission and then a month or so later the problem came back. I used my OBD2 reader and establish that there was an odd way about vacuum being gathered and that a specific code was not being thrown but was almost thrown. In my software it says code pending but it never actually puts out the code. Well after I recorded that video and my OBD2 on my cell phone screen the dealership was able to figure out that it was some kind of actuator causing a secondary throttle plate to stay shut. I think you can find the rest of the information in the comments on another video on this same channel but I don't remember because this was about a year ago.

For everyone that’s commenting saying that it could be a CVT or a CVT sensor….STOP. I am a Nissan certified technician and I can tell you right now I had the same problem with my 2015 Nissan Altima S2.5 sedan. You have what’s called a intake manifold runner control valve (IMRC Valve). They are electronically controlled through the intake for all Altima ‘13-‘16. When these valves fail they get stuck open and the car does not want to accelerate properly because it can’t adjust for air fuel ratio‘s this problem if driven long enough will cause the check engine light to come on and it does cause the vehicle to accelerate only at a lower RPM( max speed 80 mph). The only way to fix this problem is to replace the entire intake manifold as a unit you can thank me later.

The CVT had an incredibly high failure rate and the real kick to the nuts was that Nissan is charging about $6000 for a replacement; and the rebuild of a CVT is probably a 2 hour job on an assembly line. The price they are charging their customers for fixing a POS CVT is nothing short of criminal. And I mean criminal as in the government has forced them to extend the warranty on many vehicles because the failure rate and price to fix was CRIMINAL!!! CVT's work just fine in Jeeps, and Subaru's that were also built by JATCO who builds the Nissan CVT so there is no excuse for Nissans high failure rate and early mileage failures. I agree with your premise that people always say it's the CVT without knowing but the blame isn't undiserved.
