Just bought a 2015 chevy Malibu yesterday, 03/31/23. The guy I bought it from said he had running too rich to lean codes, check engine light on. He threw 02 sensors at it, map sensor and some other things, and no fix. This morning I got on KZbin, and came across your video, I took the cover off along with the intake tube hoping to find 1 or 3 loose bolts and sure enough, ALL 3 intake bolts were backed out! I tightened them up, cleared the code and it seems to be working just fine. Engine light has not came back! Thank you guys very much for making this video. God bless you guys 👍🏽

My buddys daughters 2015 impala was having the same problems and they were told by a GM dealership it needed a bunch of stuff and it would cost about $1500. She took it somewhere else and that dude replaced parts costing about $500 and it didnt change anything except her bank account had $500 less in it! I spent HOURS on the internet and then came across your video when I was researching something for one of my cars and I checked her intake bolts on her 2015 impala eco tech 4 banger and the bolts were loose AF! I tightened them and the check engine light went off and the car ran great! Thank you, this is the AWESOMENESS of people on YT helping other people!

Thank you for the video. My wife has a 2013 Malibu, same 2.5 engine with 71,000 miles. Engine Power Reduced, Stabilitrac Failure etc. Codes from my scan tool started out with the VVT intake solenoid, changed it and ran fine for about 2 blocks. Ran codes again, this time VVT exhaust solenoid, same result, changed and same 2 blocks Engine Power Reduced all lights back on. Ran codes again, this time fuel pressure codes came up, saying either main fuel pump in tank, high pressure pump on engine or fuel pressure regulator. I started with what I thought would be the easiest and ordered the high pressure pump that mounts just beside the throttle body. Man was I wrong lol, that little mother was a pain to change, but got it changed. Cleared the codes with my scan tool, drove it, this time it went almost 3 miles running absolutely perfect. Then boom, Engine Power Reduced, Stabiltrac Failure, all the same issues. Scan tool hooked up again, and it started all over again with VVT intake solenoid, cleared the codes, just started the car and let it run about 2 minutes, all the lights again, cleared the codes again, and fuel codes came up again. S o searched KZbin and found your video, reached straight into the intake and wiggled it, not a ton of movement so didn't think that was the issue, so grabbed a 10mm socket and ratchet, all the intake bolts were tight, top and bottom, except the top center bolt, it was barely finger tight, but with the 2 outside bolts being tight it didn't allow the intake to move like yours in the video does. Called a fellow mechanic who has an AllData account, he looked up the torque specs for me, wish I could remember them now for everyone, but retorqued them all, not a single one was close. Reset the codes, and low and behold, it has ran better than it ever has, even from the day it was bought new. Thank you so much for the video, I've been an ASE certified mechanic over 20 years, and with my tools and Snapon scan tool, can usually fix anything I start on, except this monster lol. Computers and scan tools can't read a loose bolt, and your video I'm sure will help many people, because since fixing the wifes car, I've done 2 more, and my shop buddies have came across at least a half dozen more. Thanks again my friend!!!

This is a really good video knowing there is no manual book you can buy. I had no clue my car had this spring intake , let alone how the intake was holding on to. Loose bolts. I like to go to wreaking yards to practice on the car I am working on if they have it , I call it free schooling on the job experience, and a video like this is golden to me.

I saw this video when I first got P0171 & P0297 codes but thought surely it couldn’t be that. Today I got a P0089 code and a sudden reduction of engine power and Stabilitrak warnings along with a complete stall out in traffic. Limped home ripped it apart to check the throttle body, and sure enough, I went to check the manifold and it was hanging on by the last threads. Tightened them and no codes so far. Thanks

I saw your video long time ago and it helped with my 2015 chevy malibu. ❤ you guys for your video. Thanks a ❤️. Now it's 2024, Firestone over tightened the lug nuts. None of the mechanics couldn't take them off. And lugs ended ruined. Now I have to do it myself. So if you take your car to any car workshop check your lugnuts, so you're able to remove them in case of an emergency with your wheels.

Thank You for your kind words ❤ Wow!!! The Incompetence is out of control at “Shops” Those are Aluminum Wheels and need to be torqued at 100 Ft Lbs.. I have used that torque on ALL my Aluminum Wheels.. Even on my 4x4 ‘97 Toyota 4Runner And have NEVER had an issue .. Also because they tightened them SO tight. They could potentially warp your Rotors. (Hopefully that didn’t happen… Also distort the bearing hub on top of ABS issues! A LOT of things happen from Stupidity. I would contact an Attorney about this seriously.. If you have an itemized receipt for the work they did. You have some leverage and may get them to pay for ALL the wheel studs and OEM Lug nuts. Good Luck Sir!

Well, I resisted that your findings were gonna be my problem. My 2015 Malibu was showing all the same signs and throwing same array of codes, including for MAP sensor, MAF sensor, Throttle body positioning sensor. After buying MAF and MAP sensors, and beginning the install job in the driveway, I thought, what the hell....look at the intake manifold mating surface to see if there's any moving when I push on it; and to my amazement, I saw the thing move. Great job guys, and thanks so much for sharing with community owners. Your efforts save me time, frustration and money.

Brand new engine that should not be having these kinds of problems as I say these new cars are garbage
@shaner52523 жыл бұрын
You say the car has 110,000 miles on it, doesn't seem that necessarily means that the bolts were not tightened at the factory, probably more like they needed locktite. 110,000 miles is not a new car. That said, very good find and you sir are a true mechanic, most ASE mechanics can't find a problem if the code reader doesn't tell them which part to replace. I think todays so called mechanics solely rely on the computer to tell them what to do.
@rodneybissell36283 жыл бұрын
@@shaner5252 Thank You, I know what you’re saying.. But this car has never been touched intake wise or even had the cover off the top of the engine.. This is my girls car, She leased new then had too many miles at end of lease so she bought outright.. That said, I however have driven Toyota for the past 35 yrs and when I say 111,000 in Toyota Language thats a trip around the block 😄😄 Speaking of Loctite, I have NEVER used it on any of My Toyotas. Because EVERY bolt has a torque spec, Is why I say GM hasn’t figured it out yet 🤣🤣 But now her car has close to 200,000 on it and ZERO Check Engine Lights. We recently found a problem with the Vent Valve wire that was broken at one of the frame mounts the little “Christmas Tree” plastic stabs that hold wire with a zip tie.. Yeah broken wire there and Had check engine which in turn disables the Remote Start! NOT pleasant in Michigan Winters😡 But, all fixed and she runs Great 👍🏼

2015 Chevrolet Impala LS 2.5, 75,000 + miles. I want to thank you very much guys for this video. After my diagnostic, I was about to change upstream O2 sensor because of P0171 and P0131 codes. The symptoms were that the car felt sluggish, hesitated and bogged around 40 - 45 mph, and it had erratic fuel trim readings. Cleaned MAF sensor and air filter, but the problem remained. Before going to a GM dealer to buy O2 sensor, I found out about the TSB # PIP5529: Intake manifold bolts loose. But after watching your video, I was more convinced that the problem was gonna be the intake bolts, and that was it, bolts were loose to the point that the intake moved back and forth. The problem was resolved, car runs like new again. Thank you, thank you, thank you. God bless you guys.

@@juanitaellerber9668 Could be. I would check them just in case. Just remember that this only applies to the 4 cylinder 2.5 engine and not the V6. But most likely a dirty or bad throttle body, bad accelerator sensor, or in some occasions a clogging catalytic converter will display that message. Scan the computer for codes, I’m pretty sure there’s gonna be a code stored there even if there’s no check engine light on at the moment.

I checked what you have showed in this video and well the exhaust manifold was loose. Not just loose but very loose. It actually has 7 bolts. 5 at the top and 2 at the bottom. 5 at the top are easy to get to. 1 of the bottoms is easy to. The other one is kind of hard. I may have a warranty thurw my bank I hope so but I haven’t tightin the bolts from the bottom how difficult is it to do that and can kinda give me directions on doing that and I’m find a way to do a complaint on this these cars are to new and engine and tranny runs fine to have such a small but huge problem I mean dis is. 2016 Malibu limited Lt I bought in feb 22 dis year at 71,000 and I’m only at 81,222 I bought it from a major ford dealer ship for 10,650 befor tax’s and other fees I been taking it too Da dealerships ford where u bought it at and Chevy getting check ups and they didn’t see this comeing? What where they checking ? It’s nun major right now the rpms movies. Up a down a lil bit and slowly Wouldn’t notice it but the lil shake it gives wen gave me a heads up got it check they say it’s a small vac leak witch made me watch dis post witch made me check da manifold dis Video is a big help atleast I know I won’t get stuck anywhere if I have my wench and a flash light even doe this shouldn’t even be happinging if anything I think this car wouldn’t have engine problems at this Mileage

Thank you so much for this video. My girlfriend's 2015 Malibu was having issues with auto-stop not working and eventually couldn't drive over 30mph. 115k miles on the odometer. P2097 was a confirmed code that popped up, P0106, P0171, and P0324 were pending codes. All three(didn't check the other 2 on the bottom yet) of those bolts on the intake manifold were ridiculously loose and barely held the manifold on. Tightened all the bolts back on (wish I knew what the torque spec was...) and the car has zero issues now. Wondering now if I should put some Loctite Blue on the bolts to prevent them from loosening up again. Also didn't notice that there are 2 extra bolts on the bottom. Looks like I'm gonna have to hit those ASAP. Can't believe GM can get away with selling cars with such stupid issues. Thanks again!

Besides codes, did you have a lack or change in performance? My 2014 malibu ltz engine just started sounding like it was struggling when picking up speed it sounds forced the higher the rpms go when running. The rpms don’t jump up and down, i changed the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the maf sensor, and made sure there were no air leaks in the system. Im running out of ideas. My next guess is maybe a cracked manifold exhaust and now maybe check if my intake is loose like yours was. Again no check engine codes on mine just engine sounds forced when accelerating kind of like a deep hum, growl type sound the higher the rpms go when driving. Once the rpms come down from the gear change the sound subsides a bit until the rpms go back up.

I have same car with po455 code. Canister purge valve needs to be replaced and cant fin where its located. Any info greatly appreciated
@rodneybissell3628 Жыл бұрын
Purge Valve is located Passenger Side Near Rear Wheel and you have to drop the Gas Tank on that side to access it. Your Canister Purge Tank is right there connected to the gas tank, Looking up at it you can kind of see how it disengages from the tank, It’s like a triangle wedge that the purge tank drops on to.. Take that off and purge valve is at the top side of your purge tank (It is a Pain in thee Ass!!) Chevrolet doesn’t make ANYTHING simple!! Side Note: Be Certain to buy an OEM Purge Valve I think from the stealership they’re around $37 maybe a little more now with Dipshit in the White House and our “Fabulous”Economy. I think if sealership changes that purge valve it will be over $200 Just an option but if you have a buddy with a Hoist and you can get the car up in the air, It makes life alot easier but doing on the ground isn’t impossible. Hope this helps you Bud !

There honestly should of been a recall on these. And some locktight put on them bolts to fix that problem. There ain't no telling how many billion dollars they have made of parts from people running around fixing things that wasn't broke. All for something that was a 20 minute fix. And unless you look close and pull some parts off you can't see that problem. Thanks a bunch man. I can stop spending money now. And worrying about if something major is wrong. I've had this problem for awhile now. I went and bought a 20,000 mile spare engine. Thinking I may eventually have to replace it. If I can't figure out what the deal was. I had a master mechanic tell me the symptoms was a timing chain going out. But atleast that ordeal is over. And if I ever come across that problem again I'll know what it is. But they are good and tight now. 😁

@@rodneybissell3628 I wasn't about to go without checking that after I seen your video. About 6 months ago. I couldn't even hardly keep the car running it was dieing when Id come to a stop. And I let it set for awhile trying everything to fix it. So I saved up the money to grab an engine. Had it in my parents garage getting ready to put it in. They only live like 5 miles away. We didn't want to drag the trailer out. So I was just going to keep restarting and keep it running to get it over there. And it was running different then it was when I parked it. I was like no way that's the timing. It wouldn't half way run alright sometimes. Then not at all others. But I changed like 3 or 4 censors. Put new plufs in it. I took the 4 coil packs off the other engine I got and even changed them out to see if that may of been the problem. Pretty much every code it threw, i got the part and put it on. And the codes didn't go away.a matter of fact I'd had all the stuff off it took to get to those bolts a couple different time's. You just can't really see it very well. But as soon as I started cranking on one, and it was loose as heck. I was happy as all get out. I just knew my problem was solved. I just hate to think just how many people are out there right now trying to figure this same problem out. Anyone that owns a 2013-2017 Chevy Malibu or Impala, needs to be aware of this. But thanks again Rodney. I'm sure more people will find ya sooner or later. And keep some money in their pockets, and out of the auto parts dealer's for sure.
@hoosierbuy5 жыл бұрын
After having just tightened my own bolts - wanted to say you can easily tighten all 5 bolts from the top on engine. When they tighten the "3 top bolts" you're actually tightening 2 top and one bottom bolt. The other two bottom bolts are on the ends even with the center bolt. Find one on eBay with good pics and you'll see what I am saying. The ones pictured will be upside down in pics of how they go on car. I don't see how it would even be possible to tighten the two end bolts from under vehicle. Those can be done without removing anything at all. If you've tightened 2 bolts under car those aren't the 2 of the 5 for the intake manifold, not sure what 2 bolts can only be reached from under car, but they are not the ones you want if trying to make vacuum leak go away. You also do not have to undo the clamp to throttle body. Undo the 10mm bolt, unclip the center vacuum hose, and you can then just push that whole plastic thing to side easily far enough to tighten bolts. A 30 minute job if you go very slow and take a couple breaks along the way. I caught mine with only P0171 code and now it's 100% all good, STFT / LTFT % all great numbers now. :)

I got a code P2097 (2014 impala) telling me to replace my fuel pump. Engine lights comes on then turns off randomly. I will try this before i go a new fuel pump. Only 85k miles on the car. A while ago it told me it was my O2 sensors had those replaced still having the sputtering and loss of power issues.

I had the same issue with mine. It practically fell off. It was 3 years ago that I had this happen. Now my car is starting to run rough again. Wondering if those bolts have come loose again…
@rodneybissell3628 Жыл бұрын
Possibly.. They are asking alot of those 6mm bolts to hold on all that weight on the intake standing off the engine so far with constant vibration of the road. Good Catch Sir!

Fucking guy wanted to charge me $800 for a new intake manifold, after I paid $205 for him to install the MAP sensor (that I didn't even need). Watched this and numerous other videos to find out three Fucking bolts are loose.🤦♂️ Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! You made me look like a hero in my wife's eye.

Hahaha Nicely Done Sir! You are Very Welcome, Anytime “We” can come out looking like a Hero I’ll take it 😂😂 Good Job!! Yeah, Anger in my voice in the Video may have turned a few people away, But! I found the problem.. GD Government Motors,I hate her car Between that check engine light All (4) Wheel Bearings and Brake Jobs (Seized Calipers)🙄🙄 I told her “Your damn car only has 200K on it and its been on my Hoist MORE than all 3 of my Toyotas combined with mile ranging 225k to 362k” She said her next car is a Camry 😂😂

Thank you Rodney. Just a question about the intake disassembly mounted above the manifold. How did you get that hose clamp off that is buried? I can't get a shorty screwdriver down there, and my box wrench doesn't give me enough play to get it off in this decade. I can loosen it like 1/2 mm at a time.

I went ahead and bought the online manual. Looks like there are 6 bolts total for the intake manifold on a 2.5L that need to be tightened to 106 in pounds. I hope this helps someone.
