I own a 2015 Chrysler 200 and I must say I agree with you about the visibility problem. I'm only 6' tall, and when turning to the left, when checking the right I have to duck and jive like Muhammad Ali. I love most things about this car, but will admit that it doesn't seem like it wants to drive all the time. Some days I fire it up and it's all "meh". Some days I fire it up and it's all "Let's GO!". Very temperamental vehicle. Still love it though. I mean, I upgraded from a 2006 Chevy Cobalt.

I'm currently renting this car for a few days and agree with all the points, especially the low-visibility criticism *and* the niceness of that sliding compartment. And the engine noise really is quiet, it seems like the speed-adjusted audio volume (which I was initially surprised by) actually overcompensates a decent amount when the car is in motion.

When every other car in this segment is pulling 40 mpg 37 mpg is mediocre.
@wiibaron8 жыл бұрын
Leo There are no cars in the mid size that get real world average 37 1/2 MPG. Not including hybrids, which MIGHT pass that. Most compacts don't get even rated at 38 comb, let alone real world. But even IF cars got 40mpg, 2.4 less is certainly not mediocre.
@Leo9ine8 жыл бұрын
+wiibaron +wiibaron This doesn't get 37 real world average mpg. It gets 37 EPA highway mpg. By comparison, the Corolla (same class) gets 42 EPA highway MPG. 5 mpg less than everyone else is at best acceptable, I wouldn't call it "pretty good".
@wiibaron8 жыл бұрын
Leo Didn't watch the video, eh? This guy got 37.6 mpg in this car. He did 0-60, and ran around in it. He got better than the HWY number. And a Corolla is not a mid size but a compact like a Dart, which has a 41 HWY MPG figure. A 200 is the same as a Camry: 23k-35k,100+ cuft of space.and 25/35 mpg. everyone knows a mid size from a compact although that Dart is kindof big for its class.
@Ryan57Garr7 жыл бұрын
+wiibaron I don't know how he gets those figures, but 37 is super high. I average 35-36 on a long road trip, but I live in Texas. He's in Colorado with a much higher elevation. That would account for the better than average mpg. On a trip to Utah, I averaged about 5 mpg better than Texas

Actually a nice car. Just be careful, if you find drops of oil on the garage floor or driveway, replace the oil cooler immediately, preferably with an all aluminum cooler, not the plastic cooler the factory installs on all Pentastar v6's. Due to heat from the engine the cooler is subject to developing leaks over time and eventual catastrophic failure. It happened to me, still like the car though.

Ivan Matz I think that the Chrysler is meant to be a more upmarket compact size offering, with better interior appointments and more exterior style. The 300 hp V6 is also exclusive the 200. Both the Dart and the 200 are pretty good as far as compact cars go.
@vossler3609 жыл бұрын
***** Good point, the 200 also has a longer wheelbase, which gives it a larger interior.
@ivanmatz58129 жыл бұрын
Well, while I get your points, I believe one of the two will be discountinued, just like the Dodge Durango will be because of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
@vossler3609 жыл бұрын
Ivan Matz I'm sure that it's possible for one of the two to be phased out, but I think the sales numbers will ultimately determine this. As things look now, both the Dart and the 200 have enough distinct qualities to justify their existence. It would probably be easier for FCA to discontinue the 200 as opposed to the Dart, as the Dart is in a pretty important market segment.
@KevinSmith-qi5yn8 жыл бұрын
The Dart is a compact, the 200 is a mid-size. Both these vehicles are being discontinued and Chrysler leaving this market after they lived through their product life cycle. FCA already has a number of products that compete in similar areas which sell better.

@EngineeringExplained8 жыл бұрын
+Y Brent Stayed within 5 mph of the speed limit. Speed ranged from 55 to 65 on the highway. You can see the full course in my Chevy Volt review.
@KevinSmith-qi5yn8 жыл бұрын
Chrysler's tend to be exact on their MPG ratings from the EPA unlike some Japanese brands. The 8th and 9th gear seem to be matched for 65 and 70 mph on near level highway. You won't have some of the natural drawbacks of a belt driven transmission, so it should get better mpg at the speeds its gears are specifically matched to. Throughout the entire speed range a lighter vehicle with CVT should get better MPG. I can get 38+ mpg highway in this when driving a constant 70 mph in San Diego which can be a bit hilly. When going over this speed the mpg drops off to around 32-34 mpg, and in the city it drops off a lot to its EPA ratings.
@keyshawnrussell2458 жыл бұрын
I average 21 mpg
@KevinSmith-qi5yn8 жыл бұрын
Are you using the 3.6 liter AWD?
@samsonitetoshiba35908 жыл бұрын
Brent, I have the V6 3.6 l version of this. The transmission has nine gears with final ratio being 0.48. That means when in 9th gear the wheels turn little more than two rotations for every one rotation of the engine. This is an extremely low transmission ratio. I can get easily about 37mpg average on a 300 mile road-trip driving 80mph. However, because lower gears have very high ratio (main drive is 5th gear), it takes a lot of gas to get going from a dead stop. So, while the car can have about 32-37mpg cruising at 35mph on flat ground, the average city drive mileage, with heavy traffic and a lot of "stop and go" is about 22 mpg. Overall, per tank I get about 28 mpg depending on how much highway driving I do. Also, it has been a hot summer so all these numbers are with AC running. I would not be surprised if you could add another 10%-15% by turning AC off. The reason why the gas mileage on this car is so great (keep in mind I am talking about a 3.6l V6) is for two reasons and they both pertain to the transmission: 1) The transmission has a 9 gears and 4 of them are overdrive (ratio smaller than 1). This means that the engine can be kept at the lower number of rotations during cruise, where you get the best economy. 2) All of the clutches in the transmission (If i remember right there are 6 of them) are slipless clutches. This means that at no point during the life of this car's transmission are you going to lose power because a clutch in the transmission is slipping. Just about all work potential (Horsepower, or Wattage) going in one end comes out the other and only things that change significantly are speed (rpm) and strength (torque). Though, the reason 2 is also why the shifts are not "creamy smooth" sometimes. There are other reasons for good gas mileage as well. Like how the engine has variable valve timing... The engine is very efficient. But, I highly doubt I would be getting more than 30-32mpg on a highway trip if it had a standard 6 speed automatic or even a 6 speed manual.

Imagine not intrinsically knowing the vectors of a vehicle from driver's position when your an "engineer" 😫

Do not buy. Worst decision I’ve ever made. 1- oil consumption 2- huge depreciation 3- on four cylinder lack of torque 4- the vehicle is discontinued. The quality of materials inside is not bad. But it’s not worth it unless you buy it well taken care of for really good $$$$$$.

That car sucks in my opinion for a new car You should get a lot more than that 2 liter engine

TheCowGoesMoo o no, you said he looks up unhappy with the Chrysler. His response was I'm always happy to try out new cars. You think just because it's a Chrysler means he's going to be unhappy. Not everyone is stuck in the past about old Chrysler. Come to the future they have gotten better.
@406_chevelle89 жыл бұрын
Jaylen Bond Has nothing to do with that. In all his other reviews he's smiling this one he wasn't (thumbnails) No I haven't owned it so I can't speak from experience but I have heard from people who work for chrysler that these cars have problems and are always in the shop. I got the crapsler thing from my instructor, like it?

This car looks mediocre. It will probably be looked over by many when you compare it to a Toyota, Honda, Subaru that it can't stand up against

36 mpg? I'm having a hard time believing that this (ancient tech?) 2400cc SOHC engine in a sedan has the same fuel economy as my 1200cc tsi engine in a small hatchback (2011 seat Leon)! :o Or is the European driving style a bit more "dynamic"? :p
@EngineeringExplained9 жыл бұрын
Niels Onderbeke It's not ancient tech. The valvetrain on this is probably more complex than what you're driving. SOHC as the intakes are operated electro-hydraulically. I can't say if it's better or worse, but I can say it's not ancient. I try not to bash what I don't understand.

You're right, I do appologize for the comment. There is no use in hating. If Chrysler can make an engine that defies the general consensus that engines should be ever smaller to attain higher levels of efficiency, bravo for them. Maybe this is a good pitch for a next topic: various strategies on improving the efficiency of an ice? It seems that most car makers are going for smaller engines with turbos nowadays. But the folks at mazda do nothing but loath turbos, so they invented a strategy according to which a 13:1 compression ratio should supposedly be best for both diesel and petrol engines. And now the introduction of electro-hydraulical intake valves. Would you explain more on this topic?
