In this video we show you the most common oil leak problem and how to fix it. You'll need to order a new oil cooler, you'll also need to change the oil, and you'll need antifreeze. This car started its leak around 100k miles, but the owner doesn't know exactly when it started, so it could have been sooner.

I worked as a dodge tech for a decade and we had countless leaky oil coolers. Under warranty Chrysler wanted us to just do seals if no cracks evident but this is the best way to do it. Mine has just started at 170,000km or about 105k miles, which is right on cue, or a little late even lol. Not a bad job, even in a driveway but you want to be prepared in that case and not forget to have oil and coolant ready. Also not always needed but at 100k miles it's probably not a bad idea to spend the 50 bucks and put new intake gaskets in. I grabbed plugs to put in while I'm at it but those buggers are 20 bucks a pop here in Canada. Insane lol

heres a few pointers for the guys who get stuck with this car, when you change the oil cooler assembly on a 2012,2013,2014, buy the oil cooler filter assembly for a 2017. by then they had redesigned the oil filter so you wont have to deal with those little valves that are in the assembly that always break off, the 2017 match right up with the port locations and all of the wiring, then when you change your oil you wont be breaking things just by removing the filter. and the filters for the 2017 models have the integral valve on the filter itself, it saves sooo much hassle, and the 2017 assembly is a little cheaper.

Just to verify, you stated 10mm for the side nuts...I am assuming that is the same for the top bolts for the manifold and cooler unit as well? I plan to do this sometime next week when my part arrives Monday. Your video was insightful as it helped me decide that the job was simple enough to do myself, instead of a service shop. Bit messy fluid wise, but I'm ok with that. Takes me from forking out a dime for parts and labour...Amazon helped drop that to $250, including a new serpentine. Thanks guys. Keep up the good work. I'll leave the really hard stuff in your hands. ;-)

Surprised you didn't stick rags in the open ports just in case something were to fall in that could be a nightmare...There's one video one here where the mechanic actually finds an 8mm socket stuck in there that someone had previously dropped.

@twadney
@twadney 4 жыл бұрын
All of those bolts you put back have torque requirements. A small vacuum cleaner, some tubing and an empty jug would have sucked all of that fluid out of there. All twelve of those intake gaskets needed replacing after sitting in oil and coolant. The intake area should have been sprayed with parts cleaner and wiped clean. I'm guessing it's not just Chrysler you have a problem with, half way maintenance makes half way cars.

That car doesn't leak, and everything works perfectly on it after this oil cooler install. Only thing that messed up was of course another Chrysler thing, the engine coolant radiator blew up 3 months after we fixed the oil cooler, but that's Chryslers fault of course. Everything to do with what we did on this car is still working perfectly to this day, so whatever we did must've worked. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

This is one of the worst designs I've ever seen MOPAR come out with. My sons car is a 2014 200 with a 3.6. The one bolt hole that holds down the oil cooler has stripped threads in the aluminum manifold. We are about to tap the hole with bigger threads and use a conventional bolt. I'm doing that exact same job right now myself. First thing I do, is put rags in the intake openings so nothing can fall in! Don't tell me you never drop something. If it goes unnoticed, goodbye engine. 2. It is normal practice to clean any gasket surface when doing work like that. As far as saying that nothing leaked, how do you know that the intake isn't leaking. If one of the ports is leaking, that cylinder will run lean and can cause engine damage. Might not happen tomorrow but it can! Just saying.
@1018Video
@1018Video 4 жыл бұрын
Well this job was a long time ago and everything is still perfect with the car today. And a cylinder running lean would cause a rough idle, or a situation that feels like a misfire, it would definitely not be unnoticed, 1 lean cylinder would not act the same as the other 5 good running cylinders, and it's easy to get the intake back off, so that's not a big issue and it's an easy fix. Also, if 1 cylinder is lean it'll throw on the check-engine-light.

First off don’t diss Chrysler . They’re really really reliable cars 120 and all she had was an oil leak ... did you see the car itself? Beautiful why? Because it’s a Chrysler. Anyways. ... I have 200k miles and so does my other 2 friends. All 200k on the 15 model year. Let me guess the guy talking shit likes Honda’s and shitty Toyota’s. Which have engine issues on Honda’s size and trans issues on Toyota side with proof! I’ll deal with a oil leak once to get the much better car inside and out. which is the Chrysler. Terrible vid. Show the fix not your crazy Scotty Kilmer sounding opinions. When people who have a car is looking for a repair video they don’t wanna hear your trash opinions it turns us off.

Never mind , with some digging I see your a GM guy. The company that has new pickups blowing engines on camera. V8 naturally aspirated engines, known ignition recall deaths, and like 4 failed brands they had to discontinue. You have other things within your respected brand then to be lying on Chrysler.

@@1018Video well stop adding to the bs online. Be the change. Start doing mopar reliability videos if that’s the case why are you bashing, adding to the false negative rep of Chrysler.

That car in the video is owned by my cousin, he's had nothing but problems with it, blew up the radiator, had an oil leak, had some electrical issues and tons of other stuff. I wouldn't own a Chrysler without a warranty, the reason I have my 2011 Chrysler 300C is because it has a warranty. Every car make has their own set of problems, which is why I won't own anything without a warranty.

@@1018Video okay that’s fair as long as you say ANYTHING Without a warranty.. and not being biased towards crappy Japanese cars that’s fine I respect that. I need a radiator on mine at 182k.. your acting like he needed all this work done at 20k. He has 120k on the dash. I have a oil leak as well prob my second one . Fix it and move on.. I’ve had two electrical “issues” with it. A wire connection had to be replaced for the trans and I had to get a few tcm pcm updates but look how many miles I have because of it. The won’t leave you stranded. Solid cars. How many miles / issues has your 300 given you ? Granted it’s the first year of that redesign so expect some but maybe it’s been solid?
