2015 DEN Demonstration 03 Joe Thambu Shihan

Osu! It is a privilege to share the first Demonstration of Joe Thambu Shihan as an Aikido 8th Dan, after receiving the honour from Inoue Kyoichi Kancho, during the celebration of his 60th year in Aikido at the legendary Ochiai Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Joe Thambu Sensei is the Chief Instructor of Aikido Shudokan Australia and the Head of Aikido Shudokan Schools Worldwide. This utterly intense Demonstration highlights why his Dynamic Brand of Aikido is sought after as he continues to be the ambassador for the Yoshinkan style of Aikido on his many travels to spread the art to schools world wide.

yes, his aikido is very strong. These are not sweet touches under the chin. The body is structured in such a way that it feels kind of rock hard, a one-piece thing that just collides sometimes powerfully and other times slightly. Like at 0:59 or 2:12 it feels like bumping into a wall (but the uke knows it's gonna hurt, so he doesn't completely resist, I acknowledge that) ; then at 2:19 his whole weight is applied on uke's arm. But this still is a demonstration, in which the point is not to demonstrate the technical superiority of the shihan, but to show how he works and what kind of aikido he is practising. Also, some movements (like 30% I'd say) are, I'd say... odd. This is a very low ratio in the field of aikido, where many dudes just dream too much. This guy at least is able to do something very strong
