I traded my 2013 crosstour ex for a 2018 new Honda Civic hatchback..... And I can't tell you how much I miss my crosstour. Nothing wrong with the civic hatch but this car was special.... Really special
@douglaslippertindy Жыл бұрын
This is a nice overview of this amazing car. In reviewing the various KZbin videos for Honda CrossTours, I see a fair amount of disinformation and some confusion. So here goes from a 2015 EX-L owner: These cars were manufactured for only six model years, 2010 to 2015 at the Accord plant in Ohio. They were originally badged as an "Accord CrossTour" and were availble with either a 2.4 Liter in-line 4 cylinder engine producing around 192 HP or the J35Y V6 which, in the last year, pushed out 278 HP. You can think of them as "an Accord with a hatch" and, if so equipped, "all wheel drive." The J35 really comes alive around 3700 rpm. Transmission was either a five-speed automatic or, in later years with the J35Y engine, a six speed automatic. No CVT nor manual. Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive was available. With AWD, the power stays primarily with the front wheels until a loss of traction is sensed, then additional power is shifted to the rear wheels. (My Honda tech tells me to think of it as "90% on the front wheels all the time and, when called for, 60/40 split between front and rear"). The primary purpose of the AWD system is additional stability on paved roads, not for off-roading. All models showed "dual exhaust" but it was show only. For the V6, the exhaust is chanelled into one pipe, then split near the rear. The four cylinder, of course, has only one exit for the exhaust from the engine. Some early V6 customers complained about the VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) systems which shuts down fuel to 1/2 the cylinders when not needed. In years of driving mine I've never experienced an issue and routinely get 30 mpg when crusing at 70 mph. The J35 engine is an interference engine. This means that, should the valve train cease working, it's possible (and highly likely) that a piston will crash into an open valve. For that reason, Honda recommends changing the timing belt at 105,000 miles and every 105,000 miles thereafter. Since the water pump has to come off at the same time, it's prudent to replace that and the pulleys when you do the belt. Cost is usually $850 to $1050 for this service. In my opinion, this car was ahead of its time. You will have to go far and wide to find anyone who has owned a CrossTour and didn't fall in love with the car. Honda built it for functionality, not style, although those who love these cars love the look, as well. If you look, you will now see that BMW and Mercedes have vehicles that look very similar to the CrossTour. Additonally, I had this engine/transmission set up in my 2004 Saturn VUE (sometimes called a "Honda Vue") and, when I sold this that vehicle it had 232,000 miles on it, with only routine maintenance. No oil or transmission leaks or issues for the 12 years I owned it. These cars are getting harder and harder to find. If you look for one, I recommend the V6 AWD version. But if the car has over 100,000 miles on it, make sure the timing belt service was performed or get it done immediately after you take possession. (The one person I know who did not perform the timing belt service had theirs break at 170,000 miles, so you have a bit of room there). The 4 cylinder does not require the timing belt service. Most of the 2014/2015 models were painted black. My guess is that Honda knew it was phasing out the cars and, since black paint is less expensive, made that choice. However, there's nothing like a black car when the paint is buffed and shined.

Thanks for taking the time and sharing that information. I'm currently looking for one now, and this information helps, especially with the timing belt change.

I still drive my 2015 Crosstour with the 3.5L engine, 2WD. Best car ever. Very fast if you get on the throttle a little you are gone. I installed a device to defeat the variable cylinder shutdown feature. Really makes it faster and also prolongs the life of the engine. Gas mileage barely changed. Change the transmission fluid every other oil change. Only use pure synthetic oil. The only thing I don't care for is the air conditioner stinks every time the car is started. Mold grows inside somewhere. Honda should never have stopped making these. 2 other drawbacks once you hit 100,000 miles is the mechanical valve lifters need to be adjusted (who the heck still uses mechanical lifters these days?) , and the timing has a belt that must be changed as it is in interference engine. I am only at 60,000 miles currently, so have a ways to go yet.
@ClickBaitFishin3 жыл бұрын
You change the trans fluid every other oil change? So every 6k mi? That doesn't sound good.
@fastacker23 жыл бұрын
@@ClickBaitFishin I change the oil when it tells me to, which is more like 7000 miles per oil change. Doing a simple drain and refill only replaces about half the fluid. So it is sort of like a trans fluid change every 28000 miles. Not quite , but close.

This is my type of car for many reasons, my most important is that I'm the type of guy that would like to get out of dodge during the weekend & any prolonged vacation time. So, I either head to Yosemite and camp, or I head to San Francisco or Los Angeles.

@LamoidZombieDog Жыл бұрын
@@oluwatosinogunrinde6743 Best Honda you can buy. The V6 option is an almost 300hp bulletproof engine that will go to 500k+ miles, the i4 is still reliable too with a very minor mpg increase. Extremely comfortable, personally for me the facelift Crosstour has to much lumbar support but that's just me. Very comfortable inside, tons of space, doesn't matter if you are tall or short it's still comfortable to drive, trunk size is great, tons of storage under the trunk with lots of useful features, and the 4WD works very well. If you have any questions while purchasing one I know basically everything there is to know about the crosstour and the 8th gen Accord platform that it's built on, you can contact me. It will be hard to find one though, they are considered rare vehicles and it's getting harder and harder to find one anywhere near below 100k miles, not that 100k miles is a lot for these crosstours. Though 100k or less will have a high price, but there is some great value on above 100k mile ones.
