2015 Kia Optima LX Radio Removal and Installation

Installing android radio in 2015 Kia Optima LX. Just simple installation. No factory amp, backup camera, etc. it’s a base model optima. This radio was originally for a 2014 Kia Forte Koup and I guess optima has same wiring and it works perfect.

@@ricardowalkes6955 glad it helped. The car already had a rear view mirror backup camera so didn’t have to install it. But I might install it because rather have the camera on big screen instead of little mirror.

Thank you for this. My radio system deff needs an upgrade, and this was detailed enough for me to do it myself. Question, what is the USB cable needed for? The one that you ran thru the glovebox

So the usb cable is for charging your phone or if you’re having bad experience with wireless CarPlay, you can plug in your phone and use wired CarPlay. Sometime wireless CarPlay can be very glitchy. Also if your passenger needs to charge their phone they can use that as well or if you don’t want your passengers to connect to your radio via Bluetooth you can just let them use the usb to stream their music through.

There’s an harness you can get to make Sirius xm work! And my FM on one of my cars was working without antenna but it wasn’t too clear at certain zones especially when parked under a place like parking garage.

I have the exact same radio unit installed in my 2015 Kia Optima. Everything works well except for the audio button controls on steering wheel. Do you have any advice on how to to connect the steering wheel controls to the radio unit? Thank you.

@@fueledbysalt from what I remember is you have to go in the settings and set each key to do whatever function on the radio.

@@fueledbysalt yes basically you gotta tap camera’s power cable into reverse light and then plug the camera back of the head unit where the RC input goes. But you just need to figure out what connector is what rear camera.

Radio seemed to be good when I messed with it during the installation. But I’m not sure as it’s a friends car so I haven’t been using it after the installation.

1. Didn’t take too long as I install radios all the time. It was pretty much plug and play. 2. No squeaky noises 3. It’s definitely worth upgrading. I love the android radios as you can literally do anything. It’s basically a tablet so you can download Netflix and watch movie as long as you have internet connection. 4. Yes you can retain backup cameras but you have to get a 12v to 6v step down in order to make it work. Search “retain factory backup camera” on KZbin and you’ll see tons of videos on it.

It all depends on if your car has factory amp, backup camera, etc. this one was base model so just basic wire harness.

@@DanniAlv I believe you got the basic one without CarPlay. They have multiple options and if you select few and look at the pic, it shows all the features it has. Some don’t have CarPlay as an option if you look at the pictures.

Sound worked great no issue at all. I didn’t play any sound on the video due to copyright purposes because KZbin would block my video if I played and music sadly. And mine worked without doing anything. Basically was plug and play.

It could be many reasons. 1. Probably hasn’t been setup yet through the settings. 2. The radio doesn’t support to retain steering wheel functions and would need additional harness to retain it.

Only AliExpress sells the dashkit so look on there and see which one is for your optima. Some optima requires different dashkit so just confirm which one fits yours.

Nope I ran the wire behind the dash and out from the glovebox and through the side door seals to the dash.

No it won’t. You need to get some harness to retain factory usb port.

@@MaurícioSouza80s this was a plug and play unit so no needed to show. I explained the connectors and if you never done radios before I wouldn’t bother. Plug and play units don’t require any cutting or modification

There was another harness that came with the radio that you plug into back of the radio and then you can plug your cables to the harness.
