2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van Review - Fast Lane Daily

Instead of taking a flight to Michigan for the 2015 Detroit Auto Show we decided to test drive the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger Van with the FLD Crew. Power for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Van comes from a turbo-diesel engine making 161 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. It seats 12, and has a maximum payload capacity of 2,907 lbs. I work as a fleet mechanic for a large delivery company and we have been getting these. All I can say is people save your money!!! These and especially the v6 diesel have nothing but problems from day one. Bulbs go out once a month, almost impossible to keep the engine light off, turbos failing at 65k miles, trans failing under 100k miles, rear diff going out under 100k miles... You get my point yet? Now onto the cost of maintenance. Call your Mercedes dealer and ask how much to change the fuel filter. I'll give you a hint, after our cost the filter alone is over $100.

we have a fleet of 6 of these 03-15....the 03-06 trucks are pretty good no major issues other then rust! they all seem to rust like crazy.

Too pricey in Canada, the model they're showing is $ 47,500 with the 2.1diesel. Part of the problem with European vans in North America is that on the Autobahn they have to stick in the truck lane and are limited to 90 km/h. He's also comparing ars to vans, that's a no-no, Americans are always comparing apples to oranges.

Yes the years up to 06ish with the inline 5 were ok, rear doors crack.

not too far from what we paid for our 2015 with racks. all of our sprinters are limited to 80mph which in a few spots in the us is below the speed limit

If they'd have stayed in the right hand lane and kept the speed down to about 55 mph/90km/h they could have doubled the fuel mileage. It's not meant to cruise at 70mph plus with that small a diesel.

i just rented a sprinter. but not this configuration (in the netherland 9=max for standard licence, for more you need bus licence). i got it with 7 people (3+4) and than lots of cargo space. and we are going to use to for camping with scouts (age 18-23) 1400km drive in 2 days.

I'd get a Promaster. This thing only has 160 HP and 265 lb-ft torque? The Promaster has 200 HP and 400 lb-ft torque! And it probably gets better fuel economy!

nageorgiou2 no. The ProMaster gets much worse economy. The Mercedes is the gold standard for mileage. Particularly and especially the 2.1 diesel. There is a new redesigned sprinter with a 2 liter aluminum block diesel coming soon which will put the Sprinter clearly beyond anything Dodge or Ford can bring to the table.

o won a 2015 170 cargo sprinter and i have the same ventilation issues i don't have the dome but my van dosent like to blow air into the windshield at all, if you can let me know what MB said about the ventilation I will appreciate. thank you

Don't buy until you research "Sprinter vans and DEF problems". I have one and it's costing me thousands of dollars because the DZeF system is defective and MB does not know how to fix it.

Not for the fast lane, the speed limiter means you will get pushed out of the fast lane often. The cargo van is proof MB cares little for the working class, one noisy piece of metal and the roar at 2200rpms is unbelievable. Lots I wish I had known before buying. Back to Ford soon.

It's 2015 and I can't believe people still believe in this "it's cold so we haven't switched the AC on" nonsense. AC stands for air conditioning not air cooling and as such should be on all the time. Your issues with back row heating was most likely thanks to you not engaging AC.

Whatever dude... I prefer moist swamp-quality air when I drive in the winter. Besides, if you turn on your AC it will kill the mold/bacteria that's growing inside your air conditioning. That is cruel because fungi spores have feelings too. I usually put them in a peanut butter sandwich and release them in their natural habitat like a national forest or McDonalds.

Is this the only non mini van that is available in 4x4 drive? Large family, mountain west area mean RWD vans are a disaster waiting to happen.

Not so with the Mercedes-Benz. YES, put snow tires on them in the winter and you will be okay. Several Park City high end resorts use the RWD Sprinter and have no problem. They can't afford to leave their clientele on the side of the road... Ford Transit, Dodge, and Nissan wish they could chew up the road like this van.

The earlier versions of this van are really easy to break into and it's easy to steal the van itself,I see a 2014 version and it still used the same set up,so just as easy to steal them that new, most here in the UK have trackers and extra deadlocks on the doors as mercedes won't change the vans security,Mercedes know this but it costs them to change things and they make money from the vans getting broke into and stolen so mercedes win twice
