For the 3500 t1n the biggest tires you can fit are 215/85 16 You could also go 225 / 75 16 but that give you almost rub in the dually tires on back.

I have a 2006 and the inner edges of both front tires are wearing (like yours). It makes sense that the shocks may be dying and tires may be tilting out a bit, but my mechanic actually said an alignment would help, so that is what I got this week. Good luck with your new tires.

sprinters if hot loaded properly it wears front tires my first sprinter was 2006 new 2500 and i used for delivery long distance was under warranty the dealer told me to keep the load in the middle because the front is light i did help but from experience you must rotate the tires every 10000 mi and i got 180000 mi from the original michelin tires, on my 3rd sprinter 2116 i rotate the tires at 8000mi because i have univen wear on the front i hope i will get similar mileson these tires i hope my experience is helpful to you

Levi, you are a wise Man. There is no better feeling during driving than knowing you are riding on new tires. Tires are my least favorite thing to buy but once you do the difference is a great feeling of relief. My second least favorite thing to buy is a battery but once you do the relief factor great too. Coincidence that batteries and tires are all black? Don't forget the other black parts. Belts and hoses.

I like the larger tires, buddy. I have a 2004 Freightliner Sprinter with less than 72,000 original miles on it (getting REAL close to 72K.) I love my Sprinter camping van (I bought it new,) and want to keep it as long as it goes when I push the fuel pedal. I am, however, getting some rust around the front wheel wells, and a little around the rear wells also. I'm in the Cincinnati area, and I have told some of these body shops that I would pay up to $10,000 for a complete body job that would replace the rust with new metal, but can't find any takers (I know, I know...you can't really eliminate ALL the rust, and it could come back.) But if I could get it done, THEN I would follow your lead and put bigger rims and tires on it. I like what you did.

A timely video...what was the stock tyre size? I'm looking to go from a 225/65/16 to the General Tire Grabber AT 225/75/16, only a small size increase until you account for the increased tread depth and it looks quite close on the front of my Iveco Daily. I'd also be interested to know how much noiser it is, and if the larger tyre size has had a noticeable negative impact on performance!

I've had a look through and can't see if it's been asked, so excuse me if it has. Is there not a 'load index' issue? My tyres are 112R rated, but obviously the KO2's I think are 104?? This is 200kg per tyre less load. Now, my van is rated at 3.5t, but I've never run it over 2.5t, but legally it still has to have the correct load rated tyres, the 104's (x4) would be around 3600kg - so you'd think they'd be ok, but would the gvt? :o I'm in the UK, so obviously our gvt's differ, but surely you have legal issues over there too?

+Leftcoast Ever since I got my Sprinter, I've been using all kinds of normal LT 245/75/16 tires as long as they are not as heavy by weight except BFG's because these are super heavy in my opinion. Because of greater circumference per revolution, mine covers more distance/miles in reality and yet keeps lesser mileage recorded on tachometer when compared with stock 225/65/16. Improved mpg by 7-8% on average.

All 2500 sprinters in USA came with 16 inch wheels as of 2004 at least.3500 vans had the 15 inch with dual rears. The 16 's are much better and 245 tires are the way to go.My van handles noticeably better and speedo is now spot on. Mileage is the same or better on highway.

I would think you, with fitting under or over sized tires to your Sprinter, would create a variance in sensor signals from your wheel speed; motor rpm in certain of the 5 different transmission speeds and other computer programs set by load on the drive train from going up or down hills. It works like that for the Sprinter: calibrated to tell the transmission when to shift. You would notice that the shift points, if you fit different sized rolling speed tires to a Sprinter, will be off and your performance will suffer and possible cause extra wear on trans and motor and chassis parts. Everything on the Sprinter from the factory is set. Other model van on the market may not be disturbed by fitting different rolling speed tires, but, the Sprinter will suffer, even if you live in Canada and speak English, bud. I had this same tire misfit experience back in the 70's with my Peugeot and had to go back to same size rolling speed tires:extra wear on trans clutches, gears and motor connecting rods, etc. Even if you hold the trans in a lower gear, you still have syncrony off between motor, chassis and transmission. Raise the chassis parts to gain height, not the tire rolling dimensions would be the best long term approach. And, grow a full beard to go with the country side.

+Vincent Rolfe - thanks for your thoughts. Thankfully I'm not the first person to use this setup on 2500 sprinters. If I run into issues it the long run I'll definitely keep you posted. So far everything has be running great, gears shifting at the right time. Funny enough the larger tires actually made my odometer more accurate, t1n sprinters have an off speedometer from the factory I hear.

You can have the dealer reprogram the computer for the new wheel size. My 118 WB sprinter came with 15 in wheels and I had to go to 16 in to get the proper load range tires. I just had the dealer reprogram the computer for the new wheels size and everything works.

Ah, 118WBdfhepner; best to you in the New Year and many thanks for your help and guide. I have been tempted to go with aluminum 16's after these current 15" tires wear out in another 85K. I carry light loads so I may find a 16" tire with same rolling circumference and just let it be. How many miles on your 118" and have you put the Moog ball joints with zerk on your van yet? The thing I fear most about the Sprinter I have is that it may very well outlast me??!! I was in Minnesota 22 below weather with 31 below Wchill and with Peak brand antigel added (1oz/5gal) the van started from cold. The check engine light came on, but after three restarts it went out.? 200 miles west of there in Brookings SD, the temp was 27 below and 41 below Wchill. I had 180D gel problems over there 50 years ago and added 1/3 regular gas to reduce the diesel. I don't like the small front outside wheel bearings on the 118" models and repack them often to avoid the bearing noise that comes in.

Vincent, I have about 54k miles on my 118 Sprinter. I replaced the OEM tires at about 30k and then did another replacement of the 16" tires as they just aged out with about 14k miles. One tire started to de laminate on a long trip. I will have to look into the Moog ball joints. I will need to drive to Backus, Minnesota early Feb. to pick up a trailer so I hope things warm up a bit.

dfhepner; I got 104-105K miles out of the first set of French Goodyears and now with the rt front camber wedge I put in, I expect 110K+ of the second set. I replaced ball joints(not bj+ A arms) at 50K as they do not last long on this model or any Sprinter from what I heard from several owners. I bought a drawtite hitch for the 118" Sprinter and took 2.5 days to cut and weld so I could retain the spare tire in its original position. That is an engineering job and a half; especially using my Bosch jig with oil drip to cut the necessary metal. I did not want to take up good floor space inside the van for the spare. I use the rear step a lot and other hitches configured to delete the step. I bought the factory 04 hitch wiring kit for my 06 and it has been a problem after installing with Uhaul hookups. I need a pro to sort this out. The tie rods were too loose at bj replacement so I had to install new. I have videos on the work I have done for the 118" Sprinter under Vincent Rolfe with capital letters on V,R. I drive to St. Bonifacius MN.

Increasing the size of the tyres on a Mercedes Sprinter van can have several impacts: Fuel Efficiency: Larger tyres can lead to increased fuel consumption. For example, one user reported that their fuel consumption increased by 1L/100km (from 12.5 to 13.5 L/100km) after replacing the original 225/75 16 OE steel wheels with 265/65 17 tyres1. Vehicle Performance: Larger tyres can affect the vehicle’s performance. They can provide a slightly more compliant ride and may improve the vehicle’s stability1. However, using the wrong size or type of tyre can negatively impact the vehicle’s performance and safety2. Appearance: Larger tyres can fill the wheel wells better, which may improve the vehicle’s appearance1. Road Noise: The road noise with larger tyres is reported to be about the same as with the original equipment1. Modifications: Depending on the size of the tyres, you may need to make modifications to the vehicle, such as installing a fender kit1. It’s important to note that these impacts can vary based on the specific tyre size and type you choose, as well as the specific model of your Mercedes Sprinter van. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult with a tyre specialist or your vehicle manufacturer before making any changes to your tyre size. Also, keep in mind that extreme tyre size changes may require significant vehicle modifications3.

Leftcoast Thanks - That translates to 21 MPG; not bad for a big rig...If you slightly over inflate your tires and target 80KMH(50MPH), wonder if it would go much higher? I drove across the USA and Canada (in my wagon) and averaged almost 40MPG in many spots - made it a very economical trip - but it is a much smaller vehicle

Leftcoast Don't recall what year you have... I am avoiding the newer diesel engines because they now require an additive to every tank of gas for EPA purposes. What a pain in the arse that would be (and I hear it is quite pricey as well) - so the dollar/mile might not be as good as unleaded now with all these changes

T1N speedometer reads about 5% low, so bigger tires will (over?) compensate. Many report better fuel economy. Transmission contoller auto-compensates (it just thinks you're carrying a bit of extra weight). Mixing sizes would confuse traction control and abs sensors, but this works fine.

Here are the potential impacts from increasing the size of tyres on a vehicle categorized by mechanical, electronics, and handling aspects: Mechanical Impacts: Acceleration and Braking: Larger tyres can often improve traction and grip, allowing for better acceleration and shorter braking distances1. However, larger wheels tend to have slower acceleration and deceleration due to greater rotational inertia1. Fuel Efficiency: A smaller tyre size can optimize fuel efficiency1. Larger wheels require more energy to turn, which can result in decreased fuel economy2. Wear and Tear: Larger wheels can lead to increased wear and tear on the suspension and brakes, as they require more effort to turn2. Electronics Impacts: Safety Systems: Upsizing tyres could potentially affect electronic safety features like the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)5. Speedometer Accuracy: Changing tyre size can affect the overall gear ratio and speedometer accuracy1. Different tyres will give you a different circumference, so a different reading on these times5. Electric Vehicle Range: For electric vehicles, tyre choice can significantly influence the vehicle’s range689. Handling Impacts: Stability and Cornering: A wider tyre typically offers better stability and cornering capabilities, providing the driver with a more responsive and controlled driving experience110. Conversely, a narrower tyre may enhance maneuverability in tight spaces but could compromise stability at higher speeds1. Ride Comfort: Larger wheels can provide a smoother ride as they absorb more of the road surface2. However, lower aspect ratio tyres have shorter sidewalls, making them stiffer but more steerable10. Please note that these impacts can vary based on the specific tyre size and type you choose, as well as the specific model of your vehicle. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult with a tyre specialist or your vehicle manufacturer before making any changes to your tyre size1234567891011.
